On September 20, 2026, China’s women’s modern pentathlon (五项运动) team won the first gold medal for the Chinese delegation (代表团) at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games (名古屋亚运会). The team included Zhang Mingyu, Wu Xiyao, Meng Xin and Fu Jing. The event looked like an personal competition, but the team result was decided by each country’s top three players. The four Chinese athletes all reached the final game. Zhang won silver, while Wu won bronze. Zhang said she didn’t have time to train for the obstacle game. ______ Her words showed that a new rule can bring a new challenge, but it will not stop great players. Wu had just celebrated her 20th birthday. She thought the team gold medal was a wonderful birthday gift for herself.
China’s first gold was not won just by one player alone. The top three players’ scores together decided this great result: all through these four members’ hard work and support from each other. Among China’s 815 athletes at this Asian Games, 548 of them took part in big games for the first time. Their stories remind us that a team becomes
