That morning, as I stood before my class, I counted the students—just as I did every day. Thirty-nine heads. Something felt off. My eyes scanned the room again. Tom was missing.
Tom was never late. I tried to recall if he had mentioned being sick the day before. Nothing. A bad feeling stuck in my heart instantly.
I pulled out my phone and called his parents. The first call went unanswered. I tried again. Still nothing. That feeling deepened.
I hesitated for only a moment before heading straight for Tom’s house. It wasn’t far — a ten-minute walk. As I reached the front door, I knocked firmly. No answer. I knocked again, louder this time. Still silence.
Then, a strangely bad smell hit me. My stomach dropped. It was gas! My heart beat faster as I looked for my phone and I called emergency services with shaking fingers. Without another thought, I pushed the door open. But what I saw inside was shocking.
Inside, the air was thick. Tom’s parents lay on the couch. Tom was spread out on the floor nearby. All of them were unconscious.
“Tom!” I shouted, shaking his shoulders. No response. Then I forced myself to think. Air! They needed air!
I ran to the windows as fast as I could, pulling them open. Cold, fresh air swept inside as sirens (警笛) sounded in the distance.
Minutes later, the medical team stormed in. I watched nervously as oxygen masks were placed over their faces. A few more minutes, they might not have made it.
Thankfully, they all survived. Later, as Tom sat in the hospital, he held my hand weakly and whispered, “Thank you, Mr Lee.”
I had never been more joyful in my life.

The film Inside Out tells us a new way to understand people’s emotions. The story starts with an 11-year-old girl named Riley. Her mind has five key emotions: Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust. Each emotion has a special role in shaping Riley’s thoughts and actions. Joy, the brightest and most energetic, tries to keep Riley happy, while Sadness often feels overlooked. However, when Riley’s family moves to a new city, her emotions try to get used to the new environment.
One day, Joy and Sadness accidentally (意外地) get lost in Riley’s long-term memory. Without them, Anger, Fear, and Disgust play the main role, causing Riley to act differently. She becomes easily angry, keeps away from her parents, and even thinks about running away.
At the same time, Joy realizes that Sadness plays an important role — helping Riley face difficult changes. In the end, the two emotions work together to get balance back in Riley’s mind.
The movie shows us a powerful message: all emotions, even bad ones, are necessary for healthy mental growth. By accepting sadness, Riley learns to get along with difficulties and rebuilds (重建) stronger relationships. Inside Out teaches us that emotional balance is key to happiness.
28. What is Joy’s main role in Riley’s mind?
A. To make Riley afraid of new things.
B. To keep Riley happy and energetic.

C. Riley’s Journey to a New City

You probably know that thinking is good for the brain. It helps you do things like making plans and controlling your feelings. It can help you do better in different areas like school, sports and work.
Do you sometimes talk to yourself when you think? It can be really awkward (尴尬的) if someone sees you talking to yourself. But don’t feel bad about it! Talking to yourself is good for you in many ways.
When encouraging words come out of your mouth, it adds to self-confidence. A 2009 study invited 72 tennis players to take part in some matches. Researchers put the players into two groups: one group that said nothing while playing, and the other that talked to themselves while playing. They found that the self-talkers showed more confidence and played better than those in the silent group.
Talking to yourself, especially in the third person (第三人称), can also help you deal with bad feelings. “Referring to (指代) yourself in the third person leads you to think about yourself more similarly to how you think about others,” said Jason Moser, a professor from Michigan State University, the US. This can help you see things in a different way, especially when you’re feeling sad or angry.
Self-talk also helps improve memory. Researchers tested four different ways to remember things: reading silently, reading aloud, listening to someone else read and listening to a recording of oneself reading. Those who read out loud could think of the information the best, researchers said in their study published (发布) in the magazine Memory.
32. How does the writer start the passage?
A. By stating (陈述) a common fact. B. By telling a story. C. By giving an example.
33. According to Paragraph 3, what can self-talk help to do?
A. Find out who the best players are. B. Develop a player’s skills. C. Improve one’s confidence.
34. Which way of self-talk can help people deal with bad feelings?
A. Is there anything we can do for her?
B. I have tried my best. Just do what I can.
C. What can Annie do to make the situation better?
35. Which of the following shows how the passage goes?
A. B. C.

阅读下面短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
Do you like dancing? A lot of people take up dancing as an after-school hobby. In fact, people think dancing is one of the best ways to fight bad feelings.
When you dance, you move your body to different kinds of music, which helps your body make a lot of endorphins(内啡肽) that can make you feel relaxed and happy.
Listening to music or doing sport can make us happy, but if we do them together, we ______________. In a study, some German scientists tested several groups of patients in three different situations: dancing to music, listening to music, and riding bikes without music. The results showed that the first group was the happiest.
Dancing can bring people together, too. Whether it’s Tango or any other Latin dances, people need to move with others. This can improve their sense of social bonding (社会联结感), according to IBSA, a Swiss scientific foundation (基金会).
Dancing also helps people let go of bad feelings. Studies have found that depression (沮丧) often has to do with sadness about the past or worries about the future. However, dancing helps people focus more on the present moment and free their minds for a while.
Lauren Helper, a social worker, said, “If people enjoy music of any kind, dancing can be a helpful way to reduce stress. And people can dance in many ways, from moving around the house to a song to going out dancing with friends. The important part is that it is fun.”

It’s natural for people to disagree and argue with each other. People may fight sometimes, but it doesn’t mean they don’t love each other. And it doesn’t mean they’re going to stay angry for long. In a few days, they will make up. When you’re in a family fight, try to keep cool. Go to your room, count to ten, and breathe slowly. Or go out for a walk. Try coming up with a good idea to solve the problem. For example, you could have a family meeting. At the meeting, everyone can talk about the problem and offer advice. It’s not always easy to stop family members from fighting, but by working together, things will work out in the end.

第一节(共5小题;满分10分)

Ways to Recharge
Half of my 8th-grade life has passed. I sometimes feel tired and stressed. To stay energetic, I have my own ways to recharge.
First, I get close to nature. At weekends, I take walks in the park. Fresh air and green views help me calm down and forget worries. Second, I develop hobbies to build positive emotions. I love drawing in my free time. When I paint, I feel relaxed and proud.
