IV. Teaching Procedures
Step 1 Lead-in (5 minutes)
Teacher plays a short clip of a well-known musical piece (e.g., Beethoven's "Für Elise" or a Chinese folk tune) and asks: "Do you know this music? Who composed it?"
Students share what they know about the musician. Teacher writes students' answers on the board (e.g., Beethoven, Mozart, Xian Xinghai).
Teacher introduces the project: "Today we will work in groups to research a famous musician and give a presentation to the class."
Teacher writes the project title "Give a presentation on a famous musician" on the blackboard.
Step 2 Activity 4a - Brainstorming (8 minutes)
Teacher asks students to work in groups of four and write down as many famous musicians as they can think of.
Teacher provides examples from the textbook: Xian Xinghai, Nio Er, Lo Qiming, Mozart, Beethoven, Tchaikovsky. Teacher briefly introduces each one (e.g., "Xian Xinghai wrote the "Yellow River Cantata". He is a great Chinese composer.").
Each group shares their list with the class. Teacher writes new names on the board and adds brief notes (nationality, famous work, time period).
Teacher guides students to notice the diversity of musicians: different countries, different styles, different eras.
Step 3 Activity 4b - Research and Profile (12 minutes)
Teacher asks each group to choose one musician they want to introduce. Teacher distributes printed profile templates.
Teacher explains the profile fields: Name, Birth date and place, Famous work, Experience, Contribution, Your comment.
Students do some research using their textbooks, dictionaries, or mobile devices. Teacher walks around to help with vocabulary and information gathering.
