A
Getting into college is a big step for high school graduates, and it comes with a lot of changes. For most students, it’s the first time they’re living away from home and managing their own life. Not surprisingly, adapting to this new lifestyle can be challenging. The following four tips will make high school graduates better prepared for college life.
Goal setting
When setting goals, whether they’re academic, career, or personal, re-member they should be attainable but not too easy, so that you really have to push yourself to achieve them, and feel rewarded when you do. Writing down your goals and breaking down each huge, long-term goal into smaller more practical ones can help make it feel more real, and writing out a plan for achieving it can give you a roadmap to success.
Interpersonal skills
At college, you will interact with fellow students, professors, librarians, and many others. Strong interpersonal skills will help you build relationships during this time, and get more out of them. If you feel that your interpersonal skills need some work, practice asking thoughtful questions and listening closely, develop your understanding by putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, and enhance your self-confidence.
Studying
With fewer in-class hours and more on-your-own learning, you’re required to really digest learning material rather than simply memorize facts. To be successful in college you’ll need to learn how to integrate large amounts of information obtained through reading, do research, and write papers. Organization is the key, so if you are not someone who is naturally organized, set up your study schedule.
Budgeting
Managing money is a critical life skill, and for many, it is at college that they develop it for the first time. Start by estimating your financial balance. Then give high priority to the expenses on basic needs and determine how much money to set aside every month to cover those costs. Don’t forget about savings…and the fun stuff(movies, dinners out), too.

A professor I have worked pretty closely with has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer. It has been heartbreaking for us.
What made him extraordinary was not only that he was a rising star. He had only recently collected the highest honors for young researchers at the White House. We truly admired him- as someone put it, "He always has a smile and a kind word for everyone." It is very hard to find someone who is extremely intelligent should be so nice a human being.
I decided that we needed him to know our attitude and also how we are all praying for his recovery. I bought him a simple card which read, "Healing thoughts and wishes coming your way." I met all the students he worked closely with and got them to sign on it. Each student signed and also added a message. "We love you so much," "Please come back," "Thank you for being such an inspiring teacher”...These were some of the messages that were written. Most of the students were really glad we were doing this.
He is still undergoing treatments, and trying his best to stay optimistic and hopeful. I didn't see a sign of self-pity or sadness when I met him last week. Instead, he paid attention to every word of my presentation and asked me several questions related to my work. I was amazed at how much he gave his 100% on that day in spite of being in pain because of chemotherapy (化疗). He did not know if he even had another month to live. "I hope to be back this summer," he said,
Needless to say, I saw an expression of joy and hope on his face as he opened the card. He said he was truly touched to see the messages from the students he worked with.
There is one thing I learned from last week: It is so important to tell people how much they mean to us and what inspiration they are before it becomes too late. My professor, in spite of being too sick to teach classes, has managed to continue being a great teacher, introducing his last valuable message to us.

It is common to hear people praise busy lifestyles. Many believe that being busy means being important and productive. If you are not rushing from one task to another, you may be considered lazy or aimless. However, constant busyness does not equal high-quality life, and slowing down is not a sign of giving up.
When people keep themselves extremely busy all the time, their attention becomes divided. They often deal with tasks hurriedly, without deep thinking. It seems that they finish a great many things, but few of them are done well. Worse still, endless busyness robs (抢) people of time for reflection. Reflection allows us to judge our progress, correct mistakes and rethink our goals. Without it, we may run hard in the wrong direction without realizing it.
Slowing down does not mean doing nothing. It means choosing what truly matters and putting energy into those things. It leaves space for observation and thinking. Research suggests that people who allow proper downtime are more creative and make wiser decisions. They are better at telling important tasks from meaningless ones, instead of keeping busy just for the sake of busyness.
Our society admires output and achievement, so many people fall into the trap of “busyness worship”. They fill every minute with activities to prove their value. But self-worth should not be measured by how busy one is. True progress comes from focused effort, not non-stop movement.
The aim is not to avoid work, but to work with awareness. Learn to pause, think and select. Do not let busyness become your life’s goal.
51. What do many people think of being busy according to Paragraph 1?
A. It is a sign of poor time management. B. It shows one’s importance and productivity.
C. It is a symbol of a high-quality life. D. It means one has to give up personal hobbies.
52. What is a major problem caused by constant busyness?
A. People cannot finish most of their tasks. B. People tend to lack time for self- reflection.
C. People will set too many unrealistic goals. D. People become unwilling to accept mistakes.
53. What does the underlined phrase “downtime” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A. Periods for rest and thinking B. Time wasted on meaningless work
C. Moments of heavy pressure D. Hours spent on social activities
54. Why do some people worship busyness?
A. They want to improve their creativity. B. They hope to make wiser decisions.
C. They use busyness to prove their self-value. D. They wish to avoid difficult challenges.
55. What is the main idea of the text?
A. Busy lifestyles bring great social advantages.
B. High achievement requires non-stop hard work.
C. People should avoid work and slow down completely.
D. True progress lies in focused effort rather than blind busyness.
B 52. B 53. A 54. C 55. D

根据第三段中的“Slowing down does not mean doing nothing. It means choosing what truly matters and putting energy into those things. It leaves space for observation and thinking. Research suggests that people who allow proper downtime are more creative and make wiser decisions. (慢下来并不意味着什么都不做。它意味着选择真正重要的事情并将精力投入其中。它为观察和思考留出空间。研究表明,允许适当downtime的人更具创造力,也能做出更明智的决定。)”可知,“downtime”指慢下来后为观察和思考留出的空间,即“休息和思考的时间”。
【54题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“Our society admires output and achievement, so many people fall into the trap of “busyness worship”. They fill every minute with activities to prove their value. 【55题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第四段末尾“True progress comes from focused effort, not non-stop movement. (真正的进步来自专注的努力,而非不停的奔忙。)”以及最后一段“The aim is not to avoid work, but to work with awareness. Learn to pause, think and select. Do not let busyness become your life’s goal. (目的不是逃避工作,而是带着觉察去工作。学会暂停、思考和选择。不要让忙碌成为你人生的目标。)”可知,文章的核心观点是:真正的进步在于专注的努力,而非盲目的忙碌。
第Ⅲ卷 非选择题(满分30分)
一、阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,并根据短文内容完成下列各题。
When an editor wrote to offer me the task of writing a famous artist’s authorized biography, I was surprised. I replied, “Me? Are you sure you have the right writer?” But that’s just what I was thinking. At that point in my career, although I had written many magazine articles, I had just a few small books to my name — children’s comic books, mostly.
So I asked why she chose me. “Due to your warmth” the editor said. Besides, the editor thought my writing style would be a good fit for that artist. Finally, I accepted the writing task. I told my friend about it and she warned me, “Just understand that celebrities will often not treat others well. They all just seem nice on television, but they’ll treat you like nothing but a servant to them.”
Her words made me quite uncertain and anxious. “What if the artist ignores me? Can I finish the writing task? Should I give up?” I thought to myself. Anyway, days later I boarded the plane to the artist’s city to meet her, still overwhelmed with uncertainty and anxiety. However, these feelings melted into thin air within minutes after meeting her. My friend was wrong; this artist was an absolute sweetheart, who was humble, down-to-earth, funny and caring.
She shared cookies with me. She sat on the floor with me and we chatted into the middle of the night like we were old schoolmates. During the following days, she told me a lot about her life, work, dream, etc. And I managed to have a good knowledge of her. When I finished the book, the artist’s husband called to tell me how well I had captured her and that he felt very emotional and proud after reading the book. Hearing it, I was thrilled.
Since then, I’ve realized the importance of self-belief and courage to face the unknown. Otherwise, I may pass up a good opportunity in life. Now I’ve met many fascinating people and written many fascinating stories.
56. Why was the author surprised when she was offered the writing task? (no more than 12 words)
___________________________________________________________________________________________
57. What made the editor choose the author for the task according to Paragraph 2?(no more than 8 words)
___________________________________________________________________________________________
58. What does the underlined part in Paragraph 3 probably mean?(1 word)
___________________________________________________________________________________________
59. According to Paragraph 4, what made the author feel very excited after getting a call? (no more than 6 words)
___________________________________________________________________________________________
60. How are you inspired by the author’s story? Please explain.(no more than 20 words)
___________________________________________________________________________________________
56. (Because) she had just a few small books to her name.
57. The author’s warmth and her writing style.
58. Disappeared./Vanished.
59. The praise/response/feedback from the artist’s husband.
60. We should believe in ourselves and needn’t be afraid of any uncertainty.
根据文章第一段“At that point in my career, although I had written many magazine articles, I had just a few small books to my name — children’s comic books, mostly.(在我的职业生涯的那个阶段,虽然我写了很多杂志文章,但我只有几本小书——大多是儿童漫画书)”可知,作者惊讶的原因是因为她只有几本小书,即她的作品很少,所以她会对这个写作任务感到惊讶。 (Because) she had just a few small books to her name。
根据文章第二段““Due to your warmth” the editor said. Besides, the editor thought my writing style would be a good fit for that artist.(编辑说,“因为你的热情。”此外,编辑认为我的写作风格很适合那位艺术家)”可知,编辑选择作者是因为她的热情和写作风格,故答案是:The author’s warmth and her writing style。
根据划线句“However, these feelings melted into thin air within minutes after meeting her. My friend was wrong; this artist was an absolute sweetheart, who was humble, down-to-earth, funny and caring.(然而,见到她几分钟后,这些感觉melted into thin air。我的朋友错了;这位艺术家是一个绝对的甜心,她谦虚,朴实,有趣又贴心)”可知,这位艺术家的形象和作者所担忧的艺术家不友好的形象完全不同,因此作者的不安和担忧都消失了。melt into thin air是一个固定短语,意思是“消失得无影无踪”,因此,这里可以用disappeared或vanished来概括其意思,这两个词都有“消失”的含义。故答案是:Disappeared/Vanished。
根据文章第四段“When I finished the book, the artist’s husband called to tell me how well I had captured her and that he felt very emotional and proud after reading the book. Hearing it, I was thrilled.(当我写完这本书时,艺术家的丈夫打电话告诉我,我把她刻画得多好,他读完这本书后感到非常感动和自豪。听到这些,我很激动)”可知,让作者感到非常兴奋的是艺术家丈夫的赞扬、回应或反馈,故答案是:The praise/ response/ feedback from the artist’s husband。
根据文章最后一段“Since then, I’ve realized the importance of self-belief and courage to face the unknown. Otherwise, I may pass up a good opportunity in life.(从那时起,我意识到了自信和面对未知的勇气的重要性。否则,我可能会错过生活中的一个好机会)”可知,作者的故事激励我们要相信自己,不要害怕任何不确定性,故答案是:We should believe in ourselves and needn’t be afraid of any uncertainty。

A
Getting into college is a big step for high school graduates, and it comes with a lot of changes.

A. was still very confident B. was suffering from great pain
C. still cared for others D. didn't know he would die soon
49. Of the following statements, the author may agree that ________
A. the professor loves his job very much
B. the professor often feels sorry for himself
C. the professor will go back to teach this summer
D. few students supported the author's decision at first
50. What did the author learn from his visit to the professor last week?
