Do you want to improve your spoken English? Here are several useful suggestions for you.
First, do not fear making mistakes. Many students dare not speak English because they worry others will laugh at their mistakes. But mistakes are a necessary part of language learning. You cannot make progress without making mistakes.
Second, keep practising every single day. Improving spoken English is just like learning to ride a bike. You cannot learn riding only by reading books about bikes. You need to get on the bike and practise again and again. It is the same with oral English. You should practise listening, speaking and reading every day.
Third, try to use English as much as you can in daily life. You may watch English cartoons, listen to English podcasts, read English magazines and communicate with your classmates in English. The more you use it, the better your spoken English will become.
Finally, be patient with yourself. Language improvement needs plenty of time. If you cannot see progress quickly, do not give up. Keep practising, and you will make it in the end.

Lots of students hope to remember knowledge quickly, but they often mix different information and feel upset. Lisa, a Grade Nine student, shares some practical study skills with us.
First of all, stay away from the same study plan for all subjects. You’d better divide big tasks into small pieces and tell short‑term goals apart from long‑term goals. If you keep studying for hours without any break, you will use up all your energy.
Lisa often draws mind‑maps before reading long passages. She uses charts and pictures to organize knowledge. This helps her remember information better. After finishing study tasks, she marks completed work in her notebook. She also tries to make good use of her spare time.
Last spring, Lisa planned to go hiking with her friends. However, something bad happened. On her way to the bus station, she lost her schoolbag. She felt really terrible. Luckily, a stranger found it and returned it to her. Lisa still clearly remembers that special day.
“Bad experiences can also teach us valuable lessons. When difficulties show up, we should face them actively. If your energy runs out, take a good rest. Do not push yourself too hard,” Lisa says.
