Xiong Wensheng was once a healthy man living in Yantian, Shenzhen. In 1992, a serious car accident left him disabled in his left leg. For a long time, he felt that life had lost its color. He stayed at home and refused to communicate with others.
His life changed in 2016 when he visited a rehabilitation (康复) center. A staff member invited him to try darts (飞镖). “It was just for fun at first,” Xiong recalls. “But I soon became addicted.” Playing darts requires the hands, eyes and mind to work together. It helped him regain a sense of achievement and joy.
In 2017, Xiong joined the newly formed Yantian disabled darts team. He trained at home every day, sometimes practicing until 11 p.m. He was persistent—no matter how tired he felt, he never missed a single day of training. His talent soon showed: In 2018, he won his first provincial gold medal. More victories followed in 2023 and 2024.
At the 2025 National Games for Persons with Disabilities, the 60-year-old Xiong faced the defending champion (卫冕冠军) in the final. He remained calm and won 3-0. This victory created history for Yantian District.
Xiong often says, “What others can do, we can do too.” His story shows that physical limits do not have to limit dreams. Behind his success was not just personal effort. The local government formed the darts team, provided professional coaches, and offered rehabilitation support.

The 3rd Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area College Student Film Week has begun at Shenzhen University. Running from September to December, the event marks a key cultural event for young film lovers across the region.
The event offers far more than just screenings (放映). Over 55 films will be shown across Shenzhen University, the Southern University of Science and Technology, and several partner cinemas. More than 100 screenings are expected to attract around 100,000 students. An exhibition of classic film posters from Guangdong will also tour different campuses, giving students a chance to learn about the history of local cinema. The event aims to build a bridge between traditional film culture and new creative talent.
For students who want to create rather than just watch, the film week offers three types of work: film reviews, scripts, and short films. Entries (参赛作品) are open to university students from across China and Southeast Asia. Winning works will receive professional support from the film industry and may be shown at universities throughout the region. Experienced directors and producers will review the entries and offer advice.
From October to November, the “Masters on Campus” series will offer classes by industry leaders and sharing sessions with popular movie teams.
A new “Film+” model adds food, travel, and science activities to the traditional festival experience. Students can join events that combine cinema culture with local dining and field trips to film-related sites. This has made the event more attractive to students with different interests.
