段首句是 “This is Maya's secret,” Hilda said with a big smile. She did not explain at once. She knelt down and laid the things out in a line.
Now Katherine realized what had been going on. She looked at the tank, then at Hilda's wet sleeves.
From that week on, the last thing each day was to open the tray behind the filter box.
The candy wrapper was taped to the wall above the rota.
The next volunteer was told the story on her first morning.
❌ The dove looked very sad and I felt sorry for it. It seemed to say thank you to me.
✅ I put the shoebox on the sill and stood back two steps. The dove turned its head, once, and did not move.
先给一个位置(on the sill),再给一个距离(two steps),最后只写一个动作。
❌ The bird was very grateful. Animals are our friends, so we should protect them.
✅ For three days they carried twigs back to the tree, and each time the wind took them. On the fourth morning I moved the box within reach of the leaves.
学生爱写 it was sad、it seemed to thank me,读者眼前却没有任何一只动物。
it was scared
it backed away
it pressed itself into the corner of the tank
受伤
it was hurt
its wing was hurt
one wing hung lower than the other
亲近
it liked me
it came to me
it pushed its nose into my palm
高兴
it was happy
it looked happy
it turned in a circle, twice, and lay down
饿
it was hungry
it wanted food
it worked the lid with its nose
Animals are our friends and we should protect them.
Now I carry a pair of scissors and two cloth bags in my schoolbag, and on Sundays I walk that bank.
put her nose behind the box → the last thing each day: open the tray
candy wrapper → taped to the wall, above the rota
That afternoon … From that week on …
She did not explain at once.
Passage 1)

Last summer, Hilda worked as a volunteer with dolphin trainers at a sea life park. Her job was to make sure the tanks were free of any items so that the trainers could train the dolphins to fetch specific items. However, one day after cleaning, one of the dolphins, Maya, presented Hilda with a candy wrapper from the tank. When Katherine, the trainer, saw this, she blamed Hilda for her carelessness. Upset but not discouraged by this event, Hilda decided to do some spying on Maya.
The next morning, Hilda arrived at the park early. She put on her scuba gear (水下呼吸器) and jumped into the tank for her usual, underwater sweep. Finding nothing in the tank, she climbed out of the water just in time to see Katherine jumping in on the other side. After what happened yesterday, Hilda knew what she was doing. She watched as Katherine performed her underwater search, but Hilda wasn't surprised when she surfaced empty-handed.
During the tank sweeps, Maya had been swimming playfully, but now the dolphin stopped suddenly and swam to the back part of the tank where the filter (过滤) box was located. She stuck her nose down behind the box and then swam away. What was Maya doing back there? Hilda wondered. She jumped back into the water and swam over to take a look behind the box, and her question was answered. Hilda then swam across the tank following Maya's path and emerged from the water to find Katherine removing her scuba gear. As Katherine turned around, her mouth dropped open. There was Maya at the edge of the tank with a comb (梳子) in her mouth waiting for her treat.
“Maya! Where did you get that?” demanded Katherine, taking the comb and throwing her a fish. “I know where she got it,” declared Hilda, climbing out of the tank with a handful of items still wet from their watery resting place. “What's all this?” Katherine asked, obviously confused.
“This is Maya's secret,” Hilda said with a big smile.
Now Katherine realized what had been going on.
candy wrapper、comb、filter box、a handful of items、fish(treat)
“This is Maya's secret,” Hilda said with a big smile. She did not explain at once. She knelt down and laid the things out in a line: a candy wrapper, a bottle cap, a hair band and the comb. “All of them were behind the filter box,” she said. “She has been keeping them there and bringing one up when she wants a fish.” Katherine turned the comb over twice. “She has been training us,” she said, and laughed — a short, surprised laugh that Hilda had never heard before.
Now Katherine realized what had been going on. She looked at the tank, then at Hilda's wet sleeves. “I blamed you for something you did not do. I'm sorry.” That afternoon they went down together and set a shallow tray behind the filter box for her things. Maya hung at the glass, watching them work. From that week on, the last thing each day was to open the tray, and the candy wrapper was taped to the wall above the rota.
“She has been training us”这一句是从 Katherine 嘴里出来的,误会的方向由被误会的人自己翻过来,比 Hilda 喊冤有力。
turn … over twice:翻看两下。
① She has been keeping them there and bringing one up when she wants a fish.
when she wants a fish
时间上用 That afternoon 与 From that week on 一段一段往前推,没有用一个 then。

I sat in the breakfast corner with my four-year-old son, Matthew, trying to ignore the ache in my stomach. I was still recovering from a surgery. I hoped for strength and happiness. But the future seemed so hopeless.
Matthew jumped up from his spot on the kitchen floor. “Bird!” he shouted, rushing to the sliding door. Sure enough, there was a white dove seated on a rubber tree. It sat there for a few moments, and then flew away. I'd never seen one in our neighborhood before.
When I dragged myself to the kitchen the next morning, the dove was back. This time it was with a mate carrying twigs (嫩枝). “Look, Matthew,” I said, pointing to the tree. “They're going to make a nest.” The doves flew in and out of the courtyard all week, building on the top of the rubber tree. Matthew could hardly contain his excitement. Every morning, he'd run into the kitchen and take his spot by the sliding glass door, talking to the birds while they worked. As much as I was grieving (感到悲伤), I couldn't help but look forward to the doves' visits too. We watched their progress as if it were a real-life soap opera unfolding before us. Gradually, my pain disappeared, replaced by joy.
Then it all went wrong. The courtyard was a safe enough spot for a nest, but the rubber tree's broad, thin leaves were far from stable. One night, a strong wind blew through, throwing the doves' nest to the ground. I heard the twigs break apart. Nothing good ever lasts. I wouldn't blame the doves if they never came back. But they returned. And they paid no attention to the pile of sticks that had once been their nest. They started again from scratch, though the wind destroyed all their hard work. The next day, and the next, they renewed their efforts, as if nothing had happened.
I knew I had to do something for the poor creatures.
“The birds were back!” Matthew announced.
rubber tree、twigs、the sliding door、Matthew
I knew I had to do something for the poor creatures. In the garage I found a piece of shelving and an old plastic crate, and Matthew helped me carry them out. We fixed the shelf to the wall beside the rubber tree, low enough to sit under the leaves, where the wind could not reach it. I lined the crate with dry grass from the yard and tied it down with two lengths of garden wire. Then we went back inside and waited, and Matthew would not leave the door.
“The birds were back!” Matthew announced. They came in the afternoon, circled the courtyard twice, and landed on the crate. The female stepped in, turned once, and sat down. For three days they carried twigs to the new place, and on the fourth morning I saw a pale blue egg. Matthew counted their trips out loud from the window until I told him to stop. My stomach still ached in the evenings, but I had stopped counting the days.
位置写得准:low enough to sit under the leaves, where the wind could not reach it。
a piece of wood
line … with:给…… line the crate with dry grass,一个动词交代了垫什么、垫在哪。
tie down:绑牢。
① We fixed the shelf to the wall beside the rubber tree, low enough to sit under the leaves, where the wind could not reach it.
We fixed the shelf to the wall,后面两个成分一层层限定位置:low enough to sit under the leaves 说高度,where the wind could not reach it 说为什么选这里。

原文写 no one goes into the water,续写里就不能跳下去把它抱起来,人只能站在岸上想办法。
