Julia Green acknowledged that the path to success wasn't always definite. Just as she graduated from college, a severe financial crisis swept rapidly across the country, making it tough to get a steady job in journalism. Despite her increasing worry of barely making ends meet, she refused to desert her lifelong pursuit. Instead, she actively seized every single writing opportunity to grow stronger professionally.
Afterwards, she made an application for the fully-funded Master of Fine Arts program, and was successfully accepted to study creative fiction writing at the University of Michigan. Though the program didn't end up opening many career doors for her, she emerged as a much more skilled writer.
Meeting various hardships along her way, which instead enhanced her mindset, Green has never avoided difficult topics. Marriage, healthcare, employment, and more have appeared frequently in her writing, and nowadays, she is particularly remarkable when it comes to literary criticism. “I aim to try to keep the subjects of my writing very wide,” she said. “That was something I wanted to do early on. I wanted to become a wide-ranging writer.” She wrote articles for many different websites. Gradually, she started to gain a reputation for fearlessness.
“I've been writing since I was 22. This job requires you to develop a thick skin,” said Green, when asked about her rich writing journey. “As a writer, you cannot care too much about what other people think of your work. You have to be mentally prepared for frequent rejection.”
Over the past decade, Green, with few experienced role models to follow, has achieved outstanding success through hard work. She obtained regular writing full-time positions, worked for globally well-known journals, and was included in the Forbes 30 Under 30 List. By any young writer’s standards, Green had eventually made it.
24. What do we know about Green from the first two paragraphs?
A. She struggled to make a living.
