Good morning, everyone. I'm Anna, an exchange student from London. I have been in Hangzhou for two months, and I'd like to share three things I have learned here. First, don't be afraid of making mistakes. When I arrived, I could hardly understand my classmates. I used to answer every question with 'Pardon?'. Now I keep a small notebook in my pocket and write down new expressions in it. Second, ask for help politely. Last week I got lost near the West Lake, and an old man walked with me for ten minutes to show me the way. He refused my thank-you gift with a smile. Third, festivals are the best way to understand a culture. On Mid-Autumn Day, my classmate Wang Mei invited me to her home. We made mooncakes together, and her grandmother told me the story of Chang'e. Now I know that learning a language is not only about words — it is about people.
Question 11: Where does Anna come from?
Question 12: What was difficult for Anna at first?
Question 13: What does Anna do with new expressions?
Question 14: What happened to Anna last week?
Question 15: What does Anna think is the best way to understand a culture?

One possible version:
Dear Chris,
Dear Chris, I’m sorry to hear that you are afraid of speaking Chinese. Don’t worry — I used to have the same problem. Two years ago, I was too shy to speak English in class, because I was afraid that my classmates would laugh at my mistakes.
My teacher Ms Lee noticed this and asked me to read English aloud for ten minutes every morning. Later I joined the school English club, where I practised talking with foreign visitors in simple English. Little by little, I became confident. Now I can even play a part in English plays!
My advice is simple: mistakes are a part of learning, so open your mouth and enjoy them. I’m sure you will love speaking Chinese soon.
Yours,
Li Hua

①Our family had a guest this Mid-Autumn Festival: Emma, a fifteen-year-old student from Ohio, America. She was staying with us for a month as part of a school exchange programme. My mother was worried before she came. “What if she doesn’t like mooncakes?” she asked. “What if she misses home?”
②On the first evening, Emma stood in the kitchen and watched my grandmother make mooncakes. Grandma pressed the soft dough(面团)into a wooden mould(模具), hit it once on the table, and a perfect flower-shaped cake dropped out. Emma’s eyes went wide. “Can I try?” she asked. Her first cake broke into pieces. Her second was too thick. By the fifth, she could do it without any help.
③Then Emma had an idea. “In America, we make pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving,” she said. “It’s round and sweet, like your mooncakes.” She called her mother that night, and the next afternoon we were all in the kitchen again — this time with a pumpkin, a bag of flour(面粉)and a lot of butter. Grandma didn’t like the smell at first, but she kept tasting and nodding.
④At eight o’clock on the festival night, we put both the mooncakes and the pie on the table. Through a video call, Emma’s parents in Ohio raised their cups, and my grandmother raised hers. For a moment, two families eleven thousand kilometres apart seemed to be sitting at the same table.
⑤“What does the moon mean to you?” Emma asked me later. I thought for a while. “It means being together,” I said. She looked up at the bright moon and smiled. “Then we have the same moon,” she said. “In our songs, the moon is where our family is.”
⑥My mother was wrong. Emma loved mooncakes — and she taught us that a round cake from another country can carry the same wish.
20.Why was the writer’s mother worried at first?
A. Because Emma might not like mooncakes or might miss home.
B. Because there was not enough room in the house.
C. Because Emma could not speak any Chinese.
D. Because Emma arrived too late.
21.What happened to Emma’s first mooncake?
A. It dropped on the floor.
B. It broke into pieces.
C. It was too sweet.
D. It looked perfect.
22.Why did Emma call her mother?
A. To say that she was homesick.
B. To show them her first mooncake.
C. To invite her parents to China.
D. To ask how to make pumpkin pie.
23.What does Emma mean by saying “Then we have the same moon”?
A. She wants to stay in China for ever.
B. People in different countries have similar feelings.
C. The moon looks brighter in America.
D. She has learned to make mooncakes.
C
①You have probably noticed this: after you explain a maths problem to a classmate, you understand it better yourself. Scientists call this the “protégé effect”(教学相长效应), and it is one of the most useful discoveries in the science of learning.
②In one famous experiment, students were asked to study a text about the human heart. One group studied it for a test; another group studied it in order to teach it to someone else. Both groups spent the same time reading. But when they were tested a week later, the second group remembered far more. The reason is simple: when you know you will teach, you read differently. You look for the main idea, you keep asking yourself “why”, and you notice the parts you do not really understand.
③Teaching also makes us organised. To explain something clearly, you have to break it into small steps and put them in a sensible order. That is exactly what good notes look like. Many students say that they only truly understood a lesson after they had tried to explain it to others.
④But there is a trap. If you teach badly — reading your notes aloud, for example — the effect disappears. Researchers found that students who simply read a text aloud to a partner learned no more than those who studied alone. What matters is explaining in your own words, with your own examples.
⑤So the next time a classmate asks you a question, don’t think of it as a waste of time. Every explanation is a second lesson — for the person who listens, and for the person who speaks.
⑥And if nobody asks? Then teach an empty chair. It sounds strange, but talking to yourself about a lesson is one of the cheapest and best ways to learn.
24.What is the “protégé effect”?
A. Students learn better by teaching others.
B. Students learn faster by working alone.
C. Students remember more by reading aloud.
D. Students study harder before a test.
25.Why did the second group remember more in the experiment?
A. They spent more time reading.
B. They took notes while reading.
C. They knew they would teach the text.
D. They read the text twice.
26.According to Paragraph 4, when does the teaching effect disappear?
A. When we teach in our own words.
B. When we give our own examples.
C. When we simply read our notes aloud.
D. When we teach more than one person.
27.What does the writer advise a student with nobody to teach to do?
A. To read the textbook once more.
B. To explain the lesson to an empty chair.
C. To ask the teacher extra questions.
D. To copy every new word down.
D
①Imagine you are in a foreign city and your phone is dead. You have to ask a stranger the way. How you ask may decide whether you get help.
②In English, the shortest question is not always the best. “Where is the station?” is grammatically correct, but it can sound like an order. Most speakers would say, “Could you tell me where the station is?” or “I’m sorry to trouble you — do you know how to get to the station?” These longer questions give the other person a chance to say “I’m not sure” without losing face(丢面子).
③Different cultures draw the line in different places. In Britain and Japan, politeness is often shown by being indirect. In Israel and parts of southern Europe, a direct question is seen as friendly and honest; long polite expressions may even make people impatient there. In China, asking a stranger’s age or job is normal, while in Germany it may feel too personal.
④There is one rule that works almost everywhere, though: begin with “Sorry” or “Excuse me”, or simply with a smile. Researchers who filmed 1,000 requests in five cities found that people who did this got help 30% more often. A smile, they say, is understood in every language.
⑤So the next time you need help, slow down. Add a “could”, a “please”, or a short “sorry”. It costs nothing, and it may change a stranger’s day — and yours.
⑥And if someone asks you the way? Answer with the same kindness. You may be the only person from your country that they meet today.
28.Why may “Where is the station?” not be the best question?
A. Because it is grammatically wrong.
B. Because strangers never answer it.
C. Because it is too long.
D. Because it may sound like an order.
29.In which country is a direct question seen as friendly and honest?
A. Britain.
B. Japan.
C. Israel.
D. Germany.
30.What does the writer advise us to do in the last paragraph?
A. To answer others with the same kindness.
B. To avoid asking strangers for help.
C. To learn more foreign languages.
D. To make short films about cities.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
This autumn, thousands of foreign students will spend a week with Chinese families. If you are one of them, being a good guest is not about speaking perfect Chinese or bringing expensive gifts. ____31____ Here is what former exchange students wish they had known before their visits.
First, tell your hosts what you cannot eat — before the first meal. In China, a good host will keep putting food in your bowl, and refusing is not easy. ____32____ A short message on the first day saves everyone a lot of trouble.
Second, join the small jobs. ____33____ Washing a few dishes or helping to carry the shopping shows that you see yourself as part of the family, not a visitor in a hotel.
Third, ask questions about the small things. Why do people dry clothes on the balcony? Why is the fish always served whole? ____34____ Most Chinese families are proud of their way of life and happy to explain it.
Finally, do not disappear into your phone. ____35____ Even ten minutes at the dinner table, with your phone in your pocket, will be remembered much longer than any gift you bring.
A. Say it clearly and politely on the first day.
B. Share one photo or one story from your day.
C. It is the small, warm things that count.
D. Their answers will teach you more than any guidebook.
E. Bring a gift from your own country for the family.
F. Offer to help, even when your help is refused.
G. Try to learn to cook two Chinese dishes.
第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分40分)
第一节 完形填空(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,掌握其大意,然后从各题所给的四个选项中选出一个最佳答案。
Lin Hao’s father has repaired bicycles beside the Grand Canal for more than twenty years. When Lin Hao was small, he used to sit on an old tyre(车胎)and watch. Nobody taught him how to fix a flat tyre; he learned it simply by ____36____ . By the time he was thirteen, he could take a wheel apart and put it back together before his father finished a cup of tea.
Last October, a tall foreigner pushed his bicycle into the shop. He was wet through and kept pointing at his watch. His English was fast, and Lin Hao could catch only a few words: “broken”, “train”, “today”. Lin Hao’s father had gone out to buy parts. For a moment the boy just stood there, ____37____ . He was afraid of making a fool of himself.
Then he remembered his own first day at a new school, when he could not even ask where the toilet was. He took a deep breath and pointed at the broken chain(链条). ____38____ , he drew a picture on a piece of paper: a train, a clock and a small bicycle. The man’s eyes lit up. He nodded and wrote “18:40” under the train.
While the man waited, Lin Hao worked fast. He had mended hundreds of chains, but never for a stranger who could not speak his language. ____39____ the chain back on, he heard the man say a word that sounded like “Amsterdam”. Lin Hao smiled and answered with the only Dutch word he knew: “Dank je.” The man laughed loudly and shook his hand. “You are the first person in China who has ever said that to me,” he said in slow English. When the repair was done, he took out his wallet, but Lin Hao shook his head. The man had been riding all day, so Lin Hao gave ____40____ a bottle of water instead.
Two months later, a postcard arrived at the shop. On the front was a photo of a narrow street beside a canal in Amsterdam, with hundreds of bicycles parked along the bridges. On the back, in careful English, the man had written: “I ____41____ along the river when my chain broke. Your picture saved my train — and my daughter’s birthday.” Lin Hao’s father read the card twice and smiled with ____42____ . “You see,” he said, “a bicycle can take a man far, but a kind heart takes him further.”
Last month, the man came back to Hangzhou on business, and he brought his daughter with him. They walked into the shop together, and the girl was wearing ____43____ orange scarf. “My father talks about your picture all the time,” she said. “He even keeps it in his wallet.” Lin Hao did not know how to ____44____ such kindness. He only smiled and repaired her bicycle for free. “Next time you are in Amsterdam,” the man said, “you ____45____ stay with us. My wife will cook you dinner.”
Lin Hao still cannot speak much English. ____46____ a tourist walks in, he now begins with a smile and a pencil. “A drawing is slower than a sentence,” he says, “but to me, a picture ____47____ more honest than a hundred words.” His father laughs at this. “My son is a much ____48____ teacher than I am,” he says. “He taught me that a repair is not only about the bicycle.”
These days, Lin Hao keeps a small notebook in his pocket. When he meets a word he does not know, he asks the visitor ____49____ it on the page. The notebook now has words in English, Dutch, French and Japanese. “I am not a language student,” he says. “I just fix bikes.” But the visitors who come back to the shop know better. A kind act, like a simple drawing, can ____50____ .
