In India, when elephants destroy crops or leopards attack livestock (家畜) — or worse, a person — the consequences can be serious. Such conflicts can also damage the connections between humans and nature that are crucial for protecting wildlife. That’s why conservation (保护) biologist Krithi Karanth has spent years developing strategies to help people live alongside some of the world’s most dangerous animals.
Karanth believes that protecting wildlife requires not just saving habitat but also winning the support of the people who share the landscape. One approach has been to launch Wild Seve, a platform through which families affected by wildlife damage can seek financial assistance from the government. With a simple call, trained field staff document losses, file claims and track cases as they are processed. By making a potentially difficult system easier to use, Wild Seve has helped about 17,000 families get the money they need after wildlife-related losses. Karanth says that when people suffer economic losses without help, anger builds and they may seek revenge (报复) on wild animals.
But dealing with the results of conflict is not enough. To help prevent it, Karanth created Wild Shaale, a program for schoolchildren living near wildlife reserves. Through games, storytelling and art, the program introduces students to the wildlife around them, exploring why conflicts happen and how to respond. Since beginning as a pilot program in 2018, Wild Shaale has expanded to about 1,600 schools across India.
The focus on communities sets Karanth’s work apart. Rather than protecting animals alone, she brings people into conservation by combining science, education and community partnership. She now hopes to take these ideas beyond India, helping more people understand that learning to live with wildlife, even simply accepting the presence of a large animal, can be a victory.
24. How did Wild Seve help families affected by wildlife?
A. By introducing relevant policies. B. By helping them recover losses.
C. By limiting animals’ activity range. D. By relocating them to safer areas.
25. What is the purpose of Wild Shaale?
A. To train future wildlife researchers. B. To teach ways to make a living from nature.
C. To encourage visits to wildlife reserves. D. To help children understand and live with nature.
26. What is a feature of Karanth’s work?
A. It relies heavily on government support. B. It reduces people’s contact with wildlife.
C. It places local communities at the center. D. It focuses mainly on endangered animals.
27. What message is conveyed in the text?
A. Wildlife conflicts will disappear through education.
B. Wildlife protection works best when people are involved.
C. Local communities should keep a safe distance from wildlife.
D. Government help is important for families affected by wildlife.
【答案】24. B 25. D 26. C 27. B
【解析】
【导语】本文主要介绍保护生物学家Karanth推出两个项目,帮助当地民众与野生动物和谐共处,推进野生动物保护。
【24题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段中的“By making a potentially difficult system easier to use, Wild Seve has helped about 17,000 families get the money they need after wildlife-related losses.(通过简化原本可能十分繁琐的申请流程,Wild Seve已帮助约17000个遭受野生动物相关损失的家庭获得了所需的补偿金)”可知,Wild Seve帮助受野生动物影响的家庭弥补损失。
【25题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Through games, storytelling and art, the program introduces students to the wildlife around them, exploring why conflicts happen and how to respond.(该项目借助游戏、故事和艺术,向学生介绍周边野生动物,探讨冲突发生的原因以及应对方式)”可知,Wild Shaale旨在帮助孩子理解自然、与自然共处。
【26题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The focus on communities sets Karanth’s work apart.(对社区的关注是Karanth工作的独特之处)”可知,Karanth工作的特点是把当地社区放在核心位置。
【27题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第二段“Karanth believes that protecting wildlife requires not just saving habitat but also winning the support of the people who share the landscape.(Karanth认为保护野生动物不仅需要保护栖息地,还需要赢得与这片土地共存的民众的支持)”以及根据第四段中的“Rather than protecting animals alone, she brings people into conservation by combining science, education and community partnership.(她不只是单纯保护动物,而是结合科学、教育与社区合作,让人们参与到保护工作中来)”可知,文章传递的信息是有民众参与的野生动物保护效果最好。
C
The term of space-based solar power (SBSP) is not newly invented. As early as 1923, Russian scientist Konstantin Tsiolkovsky put forward the idea of collecting solar energy in space. Though the idea dates back decades, serious research into it did not begin until the 1970s. Only in recent years has it drawn wide attention due to the worsening climate threat.
The whole process works in this way: satellites positioned in Earth orbit (轨道) catch sunlight with mirrors and solar panels (太阳能板). Energy is turned into microwaves and sent wirelessly toward our planet. Ground-based receiving facilities then pick up the signals and change them into usable electricity for human beings.
Though expensive, this process offers one of the most significant advantages — direct access to the Sun’s unlimited energy. Unlike on Earth, the atmosphere in space does not absorb solar radiation (辐射), which allows us to collect more energy in space without being blocked by clouds. Another advantage is that the energy can be created 24/7, but this can only be achieved if we put the solar power satellites in the proper orbit to avoid the night.
Yet, there are several engineering challenges that need to be addressed, like positioning large-scale solar panels into space, which remains a herculean task. Along with this comes the challenge of maintaining its operation in order to make proper use of solar energy for a longer period of time.
Around the globe, institutions are evaluating its possible future applications. The California Institute of Technology runs relevant tests. Researchers in China, Britain and other countries are also advancing related studies. Nevertheless, many technical puzzles must be solved before SBSP moves from lab experiments to large-scale real-world application. Great minds and technological advancements have been driving society, and it will not be long before space-based solar power becomes a reality.
28. What can we learn about the concept of SBSP from paragraph 1?
A. It was created in the 1970s by a Russian scientist.
B. It gained immediate popularity when first proposed.
C. It was originally invented because of climate problems.
D. It did not inspire serious research until years after 1923.
29. What advantage does SBSP have?

D
Extreme heat can kill. Heat wave-related deaths are mounting globally — more than 10,000 Europeans are estimated to have died during a heat wave in June alone.
When the body’s temperature stays too high for a long time, a person may become very weak, and in serious cases, heat can even cause death. However, studies show that repeated exposure (暴露) to heat in young and healthy individuals can help the body make protective changes. This process is known as heat adaptation.
People who often work or exercise in hot places sweat earlier and more heavily. Their blood vessels (血管) widen faster, so more blood moves to the surface and heat leaves the body. At first, the heart beats faster to keep blood pressure steady. Over time, the body increases blood volume, so the heart rate goes down. The brain also becomes more sensitive to temperature and starts cooling actions sooner.
Scientists are now studying whether older people can also adapt. In one study, 15 adults in their 20s and 30s and 16 adults in their 60s and 70s took part in a seven-day heat adaptation experiment. Each day, the participants spent two hours in 40℃ water with their body temperature kept at or above 38.5℃. After seven days, when exposed to heat again, both groups sweated earlier and their blood vessels widened earlier. They also had a lower body temperature and a slower heart rate than at the start.
But heat adaptation does not last. People may lose it within weeks if they are not regularly exposed to heat. Scientists say the amount of heat adaptation must be large enough. Also, such training may be risky for people with serious health problems. More research is needed before it can be used safely to protect people in poor health during heat waves.
32. How does the author introduce the topic?
A. By stating a fact. B. By giving a definition.
C. By raising a question. D. By making a prediction.
33. What is the main idea of paragraph 3?
A. How heat adaptation works. B. How extreme heat harms the body.
C. What lowers body temperature. D. What makes people sweat earlier.
34. What can be inferred from the experiment?
A. Young adults can adapt to heat better. B. Old people can also get used to heat.
C. Heat adaptation has a long-lasting effect. D. Heat training benefits people in poor health.
35. What is the author’s attitude towards heat training?
A. Indifferent. B. Favorable. C. Negative. D. Objective.
【答案】32. A 33. A 34. B 35. D

Is Body Language More Important than Spoken Words in Communication?
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】范文
Is body language more important than spoken words in communication?
As far as I am concerned, body language matters more than spoken words when we communicate with others.
Spoken words can be dishonest, but body language usually shows our true emotions. For instance, a sincere smile and eye contact can instantly shorten the distance between people. Besides, when we meet foreigners with different languages, gestures become our main tool to convey messages. Without body language, our words will sound cold and less persuasive.
In conclusion, body language serves as a silent but powerful bridge. Therefore, we should attach great importance to using proper body language in daily communication.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Kane sat by the window, watching the clouds float by. The teacher came in with a new boy, Richard. His clothes were worn and dirty.
After class, Kane and his friends heard Richard telling others that he came from a poor family and hoped for good grades. This caught their attention. “Hey, new boy, what’s up with your clothes?” one called out. “Your name’s Richard, Rich for short — kind of the opposite of what you are.” Kane and his friends burst out laughing. Richard lowered his head and walked away.
The same thing happened the next day. Kane stood nearby, neither joining in nor stopping his friends. But something felt wrong to him.
That evening, Kane was walking down the street when he saw Richard trying to save a puppy in front of a run-down house. The puppy was all skin and bones, and the chain around its neck was so tight that it could barely breathe. “Don’t be afraid,” Richard whispered, “I’ll save you.” Kane watched from afar. He recalled Richard lowering his head when laughed at, yet now he was patiently comforting a puppy. He was the same person, but why had Kane only seen the worn clothes before?
Just then, a tall, drunk man staggered (踉跄地走) out from behind the house. Seeing Richard loosening the chain, he grabbed Richard by the arm and tried to pull him away from the puppy.
Kane rushed forward and pushed the man aside. The man lost his balance and fell to the ground. Kane helped Richard up, and quickly removed the chain from the puppy. The man got up and tried to block their way again. But Kane and Richard dodged (躲开) past him, and they took the puppy with them and ran off.
After running for a while, they finally stopped to catch their breath. Richard turned to Kane and said gratefully, “Thanks, Kane. I couldn’t have done it without you.”
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右。
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Thinking back to what he had done, Kane found the words “you’re welcome” stuck in his throat.

The next day, when Kane told his friends what Richard had done, things began to change.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Possible Version:
Thinking back to what he had done, Kane found the words “you’re welcome” stuck in his throat. He thought of the laughter and cruel jokes. Now, standing before him was the very boy he had hurt, thanking him with honest eyes. A wave of shame washed over Kane, so he looked down, unable to meet Richard’s gaze. He apologized softly, admitting he should never have laughed. Richard hesitated. Then he smiled, “What matters is that you did tonight.” His simple words touched Kane deeply. Something inside him shifted. “Let’s find the puppy a real home,” Richard nodded, his eyes shining with warmth.
The next day, when Kane told his friends what Richard had done, things began to change. At first, they fell silent. Then one said softly, “He really did that?” Kane nodded. “He risked getting hurt to save a helpless puppy,” he said. His friends looked at each other, their laughter slowly giving way to respect. That afternoon, a few of them accompanied Kane and Richard to the animal shelter. With the sun warm on their shoulders, Richard was no longer the new boy standing alone. Never had Kane understood so clearly that true friendship begins when we see others not by their clothes, but by their hearts.

A. Cost-efficient operation. B. Cloud-free power collection.
C. Self-run energy creation. D. Non-polluting power production.
30. What does the underlined word “herculean” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A. Demanding. B. Inspiring. C. Promising. D. Frightening.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Space-based Solar Power: A New Energy Possibility
B. Climate Crisis: A Main Driving Force for New-energy
C. Global Cooperation: Pushing New-energy Development
D. Satellite Technology Breakthroughs in Space Exploration

B. Favorable. C. Negative. D. Objective.
