Case file A place to read 案例 一个阅读空间
Original classroom case 自编课堂情境 • Riverside School and its data are fictional. All the evidence needed for the tasks is given here.
(1) Before 2024, students at Riverside School had only a small reading corner. The books stood on two shelves, and students often waited to use one of the six seats. In September 2024, teachers and student volunteers turned an empty room into a reading room with 24 seats. They sorted the books and added simple signs. The school has also collected 300 more books since then.
(2) The changes have made it easier for some students to use the space. Mei, a Year 9 student, says, ‘I used to leave when the corner was full. Now I can usually find a seat. The signs help me find books, too.’ A librarian counted visits during two ordinary school weeks: 48 in the week before the move and 116 in a week one month later. These were visits, not different students; one person could visit several times.
(3) Not everything is settled. Several students say the room closes too early for them. The school has not yet compared how much students read or how well they understand their books. The student council is discussing a trial of later opening on one afternoon each week. It plans to count visits and ask users for comments before making a final decision.
