Hands shot up as the writers discussed their starts in literature. The tweens or pre-teens met the minds behind their favorite books. On October 25, Blue Willow Bookshop hosted the Tweens Read Book Festival at Dobie High School. The festival featured writers’ sharing, where young readers learned about writing processes and inspirational (启发灵感的) sources. The writers shared how they pulled from different themes for their stories, including friendship, humor, and fantasy. Helen, a young reader, discussed what she was looking forward to at the book festival. “I thought it’d be really cool to meet the writers of my favorite books and series. I want to find new books that I can read, meet the writers of those old books, and ask them questions, ” she said. Although many writers want to create works, they often think it difficult to find inspiration or complete their pieces. One popular writer advised starting small by creating fan fiction, saying, “Fan fiction is a form where you take a book you like with existing characters and write your own chapters.” Another writer did not enjoy reading as a child but was quickly attracted by comics (连环漫画) during her tween years. From there, she began creating fan fiction. “Whenever I read about a character who is going through the same thing as me, it feels like he or she is holding my hand,” she said. “Having a character to stand in for you feels like a safer way to go through that journey than doing it by yourself.” Librarian William explained the book festival’s power in inspiring readers and writers. “We ask our students to come to meet writers, build connections, and learn how to write, ” he said. “We hope that this will encourage some of our students to write their own stories and read more.” 28. What could young readers gain from the book festival? A. The writers’ creative experiences. B. Free copies of their favourite books. C. Advice on the life troubles of tweens. D. The chance to publish their fantasy works. 29. What did Helen mainly want to express? A. Her expectation of the festival. B. Her gift for reading various books. C. Her doubt about some book series. D. Her plan to write books in the future. 30. Why are the two writers in paragraphs 4 and 5 mentioned? A. To prove tweens’ preference for comics. B. To show the writing journey is always easy. C. To prove fan fiction is a must for new readers. D. To show ways to encourage the youth to write. 31. What can we infer from William’s words? A. All students are sure to become great writers. B. The festival is expected to encourage students to read and create. C. Students must write stories after attending the festival. D. The festival only invites famous local writers. D Researchers in Switzerland have integrated chips and sensors into socks to help people who suffer from diabetes symptoms (糖尿病症状) — long-term pain and a loss of feeling in the feet. About half of the world’s 560 million diabetes patients experience nerve (神经) damage in the lower leg. This damage affects the nerves and prevents the brain from receiving sensory signals from the feet. That not only makes walking difficult but also amplifies the risk of falling. The smart sock uses painless electrical signals to provide personalized treatment. It works by sending signals to specific nerve pathways and restoring feeling in the feet. This could potentially remove the need for the strong painkillers usually used for this condition, while also boosting users’ confidence when they move around. A research team from ETH Zurich is behind this breakthrough. Over the past five years, they have developed this solution using smart fabrics and AI. The sock has pressure sensors on the bottom to map how pressure is spread while walking. A small computer in the upper part of the sock then turns this information into electrical signals. Electrodes (电极) in the fabric send these signals directly to healthy parts of the wearer’s nerves, based on the pressure map. This allows the wearer to feel the ground and reduces nerve pain. This makes it easier for users to notice where pressure is applied with each step, helping them feel more stable as they walk. The feedback from activating the nerves could also help prevent missteps and accidental falls. The sock is not yet on the market. The team has scheduled a long-term study in the coming months. This study will determine if the sock can significantly improve patients’ walking patterns and if it can partially restore nerve function. Designed for daily use, the product will be thoroughly tested to see how well it lasts over time. 32. What does the underlined word “amplifies” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Increases. B. Shifts. C. removes. D. estimates. 33. What is a key advantage of the smart sock over traditional treatment methods? A. It uses stronger painkillers. B. It might focus on curing diabetes. C. It requires no battery to operate. D. It might replace strong painkillers. 34. What does paragraph 3 center on about the sock? A. Its potential users. B. Its operating costs. C. Its working process. D. Its major challenge. 35. What is the research team’s attitude to the sock? A. Hesitant. B. Careful. C. Subjective. D. Emotional. Walking is perhaps the most powerful and injury-free form of exercise around. One study found that 10 to 12 minutes of walking increased self-confidence and attentiveness. And, as we’ve already seen, walking in nature significantly reduces negative (负面的) thoughts and improves brain health. Here are a few things to consider when building a daily walking habit: Find your motivation (动机). Why are you adding this to your life? Is it for self-care, exercise, or a chance to recharge? Perhaps it’s a space for problem-solving or creativity. _____36_____ Start simply. Start with something manageable in terms of time and distance. _____37_____ Start small, take the first steps, and repeat for five days. Then do it again. Prepare thoughtfully. Set a wake-up time. _____38_____ Ask yourself: What will help me get from waking to walking? Is there one thing that feels like a barrier (障碍), such as cold toes or hands? How can I remove that barrier? _____39_____ It takes some perseverance (毅力) to establish a habit, so sticking to a routine — same time, same place — will help. “Once it’s a habit, exercise feels easier and doesn’t take as much willpower when you don’t feel like it,” says Charles Duhigg, author of The Power of Habit. Invite others to join you. Having a walking partner can be a wonderful way to stay motivated. ____40____ Ask yourself: Who might be willing to join me, even if it’s not every day? A. Keep a routine. B. Spring into new habits. C. Get your things ready the night before. D. Walking gives a beautiful touch to your soul and body. E. A walk around the neighborhood is a perfect way to begin. F. Knowing someone is counting on you can help you get out of bed. G. On tougher days, you may need to remind yourself of these reasons. Several years ago, Adam Kaye was hosting a family barbecue at his home when his mother, Marti Kaye, broke the news. I knew I had to find my way back before it got dark. I tried to remember which direction I had come from, but the forest was like a giant maze (迷宫). Every path I took seemed to lead me in circles. The trees all looked the same. Recently, my work has been incredibly overwhelming — the constant deadlines, endless meetings, and high expectations are really wearing me down, making me lost in life. It’s hard to quiet my mind to focus on anything else. I knew I needed to find a way to manage these emotions before things got worse. I decided to go hiking in a forest near my city to escape from all those that stressed me. I packed my backpack carefully, making sure I had everything I needed — water, some snacks, and sunscreen to protect my skin from the sun. With everything prepared, I set off, ready for a little adventure. The forest was more beautiful than I had imagined. Tall, ancient trees stretched high above me, their leaves forming a green roof that let in patches of sunlight. Colorful wildflowers dotted the ground, and the air smelled fresh and earthy. Birds sang sweetly from the branches, and the sound of rustling leaves made the forest feel alive. The peacefulness of nature calmed me down. I followed a narrow, winding path with fewer hikers, enjoying every moment. The deeper I went, the more magical everything seemed. I was so busy looking at the trees and listening to the birds that I didn’t pay attention to where I was going. Suddenly, I stopped. The trees around me looked strange — different from the ones I had passed earlier. My heart skipped a beat. Obviously, I was lost in nature, just like I was in my life. As it was becoming dark, I realized how serious my situation was. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Just as I was feeling hopeless, I spotted a faint light in the distance. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 贵州省南湖实验中学高二英语10月考卷 注意事项: 1. 6. Two qualities account for my admiration for her. For one thing, with great determination, she never abandons research despite many setbacks. For another, under tough circumstances, she remains committed to her academic dream. It is her noble spirit that lights up our path ahead. Only by drawing inspiration from role models can we forge ahead amid difficulties and pursue our dreams. That’s all. Thanks for your attention! As it was becoming dark, I realized how serious my situation was. My water bottle was nearly empty, and I had eaten up all my snacks. It was getting colder as darkness crept in. To make matters worse, my phone had no signal. I was alone, lost in a place where wild animals might live. Every now and then, I could hear loud calls in the bushes that I thought might come from dangerous wild animals, and I was more than frightened. Time seemed to slow down. I sat down and hugged my knees, wondering if anyone would notice I was missing, and regretting my careless enthusiasm earlier. Just as I was feeling hopeless, I spotted a faint light in the distance. It was a small campfire! I hurried toward it, my hope returning. I saw a group of hikers sitting around the fire. They looked surprised but quickly welcomed me. They gave me water and food, checking a map to help me find the way home. That day, I learned an important lesson: Being lost in the forest is scary, but there is always a way out. So it is with our life: When we are caught up in darkness, there is always hope ahead.
