Ernst Mach was a weak child, born in Moravia (now Czechia) in 1838. He didn’t even go to school until the age of 14. Instead, his parents educated him at home. Like many genius children, his teachers criticized him, calling him “unteachable, absolutely talentless.” Yet young Mach excelled at university in Vienna. He studied mathematics, physics and philosophy. He was also boundlessly curious. He conducted all kinds of experiments, believing that theories must be tried, tested, and proven in facts, but first formulated in the mind. He brought this rigorous (严密的) approach to his studies, believing that true science is based on what actually happens and can be observed.
In addition to his work in the sciences, Mach was also a well-rounded student, with interests in philosophy and even sports. He was an excellent boxer and fencer, which reflected the wide range of his abilities and interests.
As a teacher, Mach was serious and demanding. That was the model of pedagogy (教学) of his time, and Mach followed this standard: tight collar, buttoned-down tie, waistcoat and jacket, and serious eyes behind wire-framed glasses. He expected exactness from his students. Among those he influenced was the young Albert Einstein. Mach’s insistence on clarity and rigorous testing of ideas helped shape Einstein’s thinking. Though Mach was doubtful about some of Einstein’s later conclusions, such as E=mc2, his doubt drove Einstein to prove his ideas further. He pushed the young Einstein to achieve excellence.
While Mach is credited with many theories of his own, including the aircraft velocity (速度) measurement that bears his name, “Mach 1, Mach 2, etc.”, his mentorship of Einstein is perhaps his greatest achievement. The best teachers in our lives also challenge us and see us as not yet complete but full of potential. They shine a light on the path that gets us to a successful reality. And through us, they live on.
24. What can we know about Ernst Mach from paragraph 1?
A. He attended university at the age of 14.
B. He was considered a genius by his teachers.
C. His early education was coached by his parents.
D. His physical disability discouraged his studying.
25. How did Ernst Mach impact Albert Einstein?
A. He challenged Einstein to excel.
B. He forced Einstein to give in.
C. He introduced new theories to Einstein.
D. He inspired Einstein to focus on physics.
26. Which can best describe Ernst Mach?
A. Cautious and ambitious. B. Professional and influential.
C. Diligent and dependent. D. Incredible and accessible.
27. Which of the following can best describe the text?
A. Suffering is the best teacher. B. Great minds think alike.
C. Two heads are better than one. D. A great teacher produces a brilliant student.

When it comes to back-to-school shopping or choosing makeup colors, the high school student Kayla asks ChatGPT for guidance. However, she avoids using AI to do her homework and limits her interactions to everyday questions. “Everyone uses AI for everything now. It’s really taking over,” said Kayla. “I think kids use AI to get out of thinking.”
But many teenagers say they are increasingly interacting with AI as if it were a companion, capable of providing advice and friendship.
More than 70% of teens have used AI companions and hear turn to them for help regularly, according to a new Media from Common Sense study. For the last couple of years, concerns about cheating at school have dominated the conversation around kids and AI. But artificial intelligence is playing a much larger role in many of their lives, becoming a go-to source for personal advice, emotional support, every day decision-making and problem-solving.
In the Common Sense Media survey, 31% of teens said their conversations with AI companions were “as satisfying or more satisfying” than talking with real friends.
Michael Robb, the study’s lead author, warns that Adolescence is a crucial time for developing identity and social skills, and AI companions should complement — not replace — real-world interaction. “If teens are developing social skills on AI platforms where they are constantly being favored without being challenged, not learning to consider other perspectives, they may not be adequately prepared in the real world,” he said.
Researchers and educators worry about the cognitive costs for youths who rely heavily on AI, especially in their creativity, critical thinking and social skills.
“All of us are struck by how quickly this blew up,” said Eva Telzer, a psychology and neuroscience professor. “I could see a kid that grows up with AI not seeing a reason to go to the park or try to make a friend. I’m worried that kids could get lost in it.”
28. What does Kayla think of the use of AI among kids?
A. It gives them some advice and comfort. B. It helps them escape from mental labor.
C. It pulls them back from the daily chores. D. It enables them to get away from the reality.
29. How has the AI affected the teenagers?
A. Most of them have become entirely dependent on it.
B. Some of them have significantly improved their social skills.
C. Some of them have experienced different levels of satisfaction.
D. Most of them have effectively solved the problem of loneliness.
30. According to Robb, what is a possible risk of youth relying on AI companions?
A. Getting lost in a virtual world. B. Missing out on practical skills.
C. Losing the ability of making friends. D. Lacking preparation for the real world.
31. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To warn parents of the dangers of AI. B. To analyze the mixed impact of AI on teens.
C. To inform the current trend of AI use in schools. D. To call for the ban on the use of AI among teens.
D
Food security is one of the most pressing challenges facing the world today. With the global population expected to reach nearly 10 billion by 2050, the demand for food will increase dramatically. However, climate change, water scarcity, and the loss of arable land are making it harder to grow enough food.
Agricultural scientists are working on various solutions to this problem. One approach is to develop crop varieties that can withstand extreme weather conditions, such as drought-resistant rice and heat-tolerant wheat. Another strategy is to improve farming techniques. For example, precision agriculture uses technology like drones and sensors to monitor crops and apply water and fertilizers exactly where they are needed, reducing waste and increasing yields.
Vertical farming is also gaining attention. By growing crops in stacked layers indoors, often in urban areas, vertical farms can produce food year-round while using less water and no pesticides. Although the initial costs are high, many experts believe this method could play an important role in future food production.
International cooperation is essential. Countries must share knowledge, technology, and resources to ensure that no one is left behind. As Yuan Longping once said, “My lifelong pursuit is to keep all the people away from hunger.” His words remind us that achieving food security requires not only scientific innovation but also a deep sense of responsibility towards humanity.
32. What is one of the main challenges mentioned in the first paragraph?
A. The increasing demand for food due to population growth.
B. The decreasing global population.
C. The surplus of arable land.
D. The lack of agricultural technology.
33. What is precision agriculture according to the passage?
A. A method of growing crops without water. B. A system of sharing resources between countries.
C. A traditional way of planting rice. D. A technology to improve farming efficiency.
34. What does the author imply about achieving food security?
A. It can be achieved by a single country alone. B. It is impossible to achieve by 2050.
C. It requires both innovation and global cooperation. D. It depends mainly on reducing the population.
35. What is the best title for the passage?
A. The History of Modern Agriculture B. Challenges and Solutions for Global Food Security
C. The Life of Yuan Longping D. The Benefits of Vertical Farming
第二节 (共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
A recent Gallup study found that a majority of working people said they were more angry, stressed and worried in 2018. The fact is that we don’t relax enough and enjoy our leisure time enough.
So what’s the fix? Maybe it’s making the best use of the potential leisure time we do have, particularly our weekends. It feels like a lot of us just use Saturday and Sunday to make up for work and sleep. ___36___. Below are some relaxation tips on how to have a good weekend.
Take some time away from your phone!
It is called “screen/life balance.” ___37___. Maybe checking your phone for texts or emails only once an hour, instead of all the time. If you want to be really bold, try leaving your phone at home during certain weekend activities.
Stay in the moment!
Find ways to make your mind focus on where you are in the moment, what you’re doing right then and there, and what it all feels like. “Five senses meditation” is a great way to achieve the stage of focus. To do this, get still and focus on what you’re sensing. Notice five things you can see. Then four that you can feel. Three that you can hear. Two you can taste. One you can smell. ___38___. And sometimes you don’t have to follow that playbook exactly, just do whatever you want to do with the five senses.
___39___.
A lot of us fall into the trap of saving weekend work we have to complete for Sunday evening, which means Sunday can be pretty stressful and feel like Monday. To avoid those “Sunday scaries,” maybe get those few hours of work done at some other point during the weekend, so that the last thing you do during your weekend can be something actually fun.
Focus on making new memories, rather than just repeating the workweek.
To make the most of quality time with friends and loved ones, make it a point to talk about work as little as possible. We should redefine our hangouts: make new memories and learn new things about the people you care about. ___40___. Maybe ask your friends to tell you a memory of their first date or the story of their favorite song. ANYTHING but work.
A. Ask questions that go beyond “how was your week?”.
B. Beat the “Sunday scaries” by planning something fun for the end of the weekend!
C. Setting up some rules for phone use over the weekend can really be of great help.
D. Thinking about those senses and what you’re experiencing can help you keep focused.
E. Being lost in phones will cause neck pain and prevent people from getting out for fun.
F. One recent study found that just over a quarter of working people plan to use all their vacation days.
G. Yet, there are ways to maximize the weekend time to head back to work on Monday feeling happier.

67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一个完整的故事。
Mrs. Miller was our next-door neighbor. Her husband died two years ago. She had no children and no relatives that we knew of. She was gentle and kind, and my sister Laurel and I considered her our special friend.
One December, Mrs. Miller was ill in hospital. Laurel and I were busy making Christmas presents, and we wondered what to make for Mrs. Miller. We couldn’t bear seeing her come home before Christmas to an empty house with no holiday decorations. Then we lit upon the idea of decorating a small tree that would greet her with lights and cheer. We were wondering how to carry out our plan when the answer appeared.
I was in Miss Johnson’s sixth grade class that year, and we decorated a small tree with paper-link chains and ornaments (装饰物) we’d made in art class. It was beautiful. Best of all, it had to be removed from the classroom before Christmas vacation.
Miss Johnson said there would be a drawing (抽签) for the tree. We’d each write our name on a piece of paper and put it in the box she had prepared. On the last day of school before vacation, she’d draw a name from the box, and that student could take the tree home.
Great! That was exactly what I was longing for! So I wrote my name “Helen Wheeler” neatly on a piece of paper and folded it carefully. As I put it into the box, I whispered to Miss Johnson that I really hoped I’d win the tree because my sister and I wanted to give it to our neighbor who was sick and lonely. Though there were 30 children in the class and each might win the tree, I was somehow certain that I would get it because our cause was good: We wanted to make Mrs. Miller happy.
The day before vacation finally arrived. Laurel and I usually walked to and from school, but that day I persuaded Mom to pick us up in her car after school in case I really got the tree.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

【答案】28. B 29. C 30. D 31. B

【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“But artificial intelligence is playing a much larger role in many of their lives, becoming a go-to source for personal advice, emotional support, every day decision-making and problem-solving.(但人工智能在许多青少年的生活中扮演着更重要的角色,成为个人建议、情感支持、日常决策和解决问题的首选来源)”以及第六段“Researchers and educators worry about the cognitive costs for youths who rely heavily on AI, especially in their creativity, critical thinking and social skills.(研究人员和教育工作者担心,严重依赖人工智能的青少年在认知上会付出代价,尤其是在创造力、批判性思维和社交技能方面)”可知,文章既提到了人工智能对青少年的积极影响,也提到了消极影响,所以作者写这篇文章的目的是分析人工智能对青少年的混合影响。故选B。

【答案】32. A 33. D 34. C 35. B

推理判断题。根据第四段“International cooperation is essential. Countries must share knowledge, technology, and resources to ensure that no one is left behind. As Yuan Longping once said, “My lifelong pursuit is to keep all the people away from hunger.” His words remind us that achieving food security requires not only scientific innovation but also a deep sense of responsibility towards humanity.(国际合作至关重要。各国必须共享知识、技术与资源,确保不落下任何人。正如袁隆平曾说:“我毕生的追求就是让所有人远离饥饿。”他的话提醒我们,实现粮食安全不仅需要科技创新,还要怀有对人类深厚的责任感。)”可知,实现粮食安全需要创新与全球合作。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Food security is one of the most pressing challenges facing the world today.(粮食安全是当今世界面临最紧迫的挑战之一。)”
【答案】36. G 37. C 38. D 39. B 40. A
【解析】
【导语】这篇文章主要介绍了盖洛普调查显示上班族压力大,本文给出几条周末放松建议:远离手机、活在当下、消除周日焦虑、创造新回忆。
【36题详解】
前文“It feels like a lot of us just use Saturday and Sunday to make up for work and sleep.( 感觉很多人只是把周六和周日用来弥补工作和睡眠的时间。)”提到多数人仅用周末补工作、补觉,后文引出周末放松建议,此处需要承上启下的过渡句。G项“Yet, there are ways to maximize the weekend time to head back to work on Monday feeling happier.(然而,有方法可以充分利用周末时间,让你周一重返工作时心情更愉悦。)”既承接了前文的问题,又自然引出下文的建议,逻辑衔接顺畅。
【37题详解】
本段主题“Take some time away from your phone!( 远离手机,给自己一点时间!)”是合理使用手机,后文“Maybe checking your phone for texts or emails only once an hour, instead of all the time.( 也许你可以每小时只查看一次手机上的短信或邮件,而不是一直盯着。)”给出“每小时仅查看一次手机”的具体做法。C 项“Setting up some rules for phone use over the weekend can really be of great help.(为周末的手机使用制定一些规则会很有帮助。)”是对后文具体规则的总起,符合段落逻辑。
【38题详解】
前文“To do this, get still and focus on what you’re sensing. Notice five things you can see. Then four that you can feel. Three that you can hear. Two you can taste. One you can smell. (要做到这一点,保持静止,专注于你感觉到的东西。注意你能看到的五件事。然后是四种你能感觉到的事物、三种你能听到的事物、两种你能品尝到的事物、一种你能闻到的事物。)”详细介绍了“五感冥想” 的操作步骤,此处需要说明该方法的作用。D项“Thinking about those senses and what you’re experiencing can help you keep focused.(关注这些感官和你当下的体验,能帮你保持专注。)”承接了五感练习的内容,解释了其效果。
【39题详解】
此处是段落小标题,后文“A lot of us fall into the trap of saving weekend work we have to complete for Sunday evening, which means Sunday can be pretty stressful and feel like Monday. To avoid those “Sunday scaries,” maybe get those few hours of work done at some other point during the weekend, so that the last thing you do during your weekend can be something actually fun.( 我们很多人容易陷入这样的误区:把必须完成的周末工作留到周日晚上才做,结果导致周日变得十分紧张,甚至感觉像周一一样。为了避免那些“周日的恐惧”,或许可以将那几个小时的工作安排在周末其他时间完成,这样你周末最后做的事情就能真正变得有趣。)”核心围绕“周日恐惧症(Sunday scaries)”展开,建议提前完成工作、让周末结尾更轻松。B项“Beat the “Sunday scaries” by planning something fun for the end of the weekend!(通过为周末尾声安排有趣的事来战胜“周日恐惧症”)” 精准概括了段落主旨,且复现了关键词 “Sunday scaries”。
【40题详解】
前文“We should redefine our hangouts: make new memories and learn new things about the people you care about.(我们应该重新定义聚会的方式:创造新回忆,了解你所关心的人们的新鲜事物。)”建议聚会时少聊工作、创造新回忆,后文“Maybe ask your friends to tell you a memory of their first date or the story of their favorite song.( 也许可以让你的朋友告诉你他们第一次约会的记忆,或者他们最喜欢的歌曲的故事。)”举例可以问第一次约会、最喜欢的歌这类话题。A 项“Ask questions that go beyond “how was your week?”.(问一些超出“你这周过得怎么样”的问题。)”承上启下,既呼应了“少聊工作” 的要求,又对应了后文的具体问题示例。

第二节(满分 25 分)
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1:
Before school was over, Miss Johnson announced it was time for the drawing.

Paragraph 2:
The next evening we welcomed Mrs. Miller back at her door.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One Possible Version:
Before school was over, Miss Johnson announced it was time for the drawing. My heart beat fast as Miss Johnson put her hand into the box and drew one folded piece of paper out. Then she unfolded the paper, looked at it and announced. “Helen has won the tree!” I was beside myself with excitement! And I’ll never forget the astonishment on my mother’s face as my sister and I carried the tree to her car. Since Mom had a key to Mrs. Miller’s house, we took the tree straight to her living room and set it up on a table. It looked so beautiful!
The next evening we welcomed Mrs. Miller back at her door. She slowly made her way into the house and turned on the lights, greeted by the sparkling Christmas tree. Mrs. Miller was rooted to the spot, looking surprised. Then a sweet smile appeared on her face and tears welled up in her eyes. “Thank you so much.” she said softly. While Laurel and I were excitedly telling the story to our parents, it suddenly dawned on me that Miss Johnson had helped me in a secret way: Though she had announced my name, she never showed anyone what was written on that piece of paper!
