Fiona was a very popular girl at school. From an early age, she made an effort to be kind and friendly to everyone. She invited the whole class to her birthday party and often did something nice for her classmates.
However, everything changed during a class activity. In class that day, every student needed to prepare presents for their three best friends. Fiona carefully picked three classmates from her whole class. She also couldn’t wait to receive presents from her best friends. But when the gift-giving was over, she was the only one who got nothing. Fiona didn’t expect this terrible result and cried for hours. Her classmates came to comfort (安慰) her, yet each left after staying only a short while — just as Fiona always did to others before.
She soon understood that she was a nice companion (同伴), but she never became a true friend to anyone. Though she tried to get close to everybody, she failed to build real friendships.
That night, Fiona told her mom what had happened. Her mother said gently, “You cannot buy friends just with smiles or nice words. True friendship requires time and real care. A true friend stays with you through good and bad times.”
Hearing this, Fiona decided to change. She thought about her mother, who was always ready to help her, encouraged her and loved her deeply. This was exactly what a true friend should be. Fiona smiled. She suddenly found she already had the best friend.
19.How did Fiona feel at the beginning of the class activity?
A.Excited. B.Ashamed. C.Surprised D.Worried.
20.Which is the right order of the story?
①. Fiona realized who her best friend was.
②. Fiona got nothing in the class activity.
③. Fiona’s mother told her about true friendship.
④. Fiona understood she wasn’t a true friend.
A.②-①-③-④ B.②-④-③-① C.④-②-①-③ D.②-③-④-①
21.What does the underlined sentence mean in paragraph 4?
A.Smiles and nice words are good ways to make friends.
B.Making friends is as easy as giving gifts to other people.
C.People don’t like smiles or nice words from their friends.
D.True friends need more than just smiles and nice words.
22.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The Importance of Friendship B.The Value of Sharing
C.The Meaning of Friendship D.The Way of Sharing
【答案】19.A 20.B 21.D 22.C
第二段提到“She also couldn’t wait to receive presents from her best friends”,能看出活动一开始Fiona的心情是兴奋的。
21.第四段提到“You cannot buy friends just with smiles or nice words. True friendship requires time and real care”,这句话的含义是真正的朋友需要的不只是微笑和好听的话语。

Do you know our planet has seven continents? You probably name six continents easily: Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe, North America and South America. These lands have been home to humans for many thousands of years. Now look down at the bottom (底部) of the world map below. There you will find the seventh continent: Antarctica.
Antarctica is the coldest continent. The temperature in summer is mostly below 0°C.In winter the temperature is almost always below -18°C. The coldest temperature recorded on the earth was at an Antarctic science station in July 1983. It got down to -89 °C. That’s why thick ice covers Antarctica. The ice holds 70% of the world’s fresh water and it has been building up over thousands of years.
But here’s the surprise: Some special animals still live there. Among them the Emperor Penguin (企鹅), the largest penguin in the world is the most famous. It stands more than 1.2 meters tall. Father penguin has a big job. It stands on ice and holds an egg between its feet and body for two months without eating any food until mother penguin comes back.
No country around the world owns Antarctica. Scientists from different countries have worked hard to protect Antarctica’s wildlife and land. Some of them come to study the wildlife. Other scientists study Antarctica’s ice.
Antarctica remains one of the least-known lands in the world. The cold and ice seas make it a difficult place to study. However, it’s a place of uncommon beauty that gives chances to research the surprising nature.
23.Where is Antarctica located(定位) in the world map according to Paragraph 1?
A.A B.B C.C D.D
24.What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us?
A.Beautiful Antarctica. B.Freezing Antarctica. C.Common Antarctica. D.Old Antarctica.
25.What can we learn from Paragraphs 3 and 4?
A.Only penguins live in Antarctica happily. B.Some countries are fighting for Antarctica.
C.Penguins take care of their babies easily. D.Scientists study Antarctica in different ways.
26.Which of the following shows the structure of the text?
A. B. C. D.
根据“Now look down at the bottom (底部) of the world map below. There you will find the seventh continent: Antarctica.”
通读第二段并根据“Antarctica is the coldest continent.”
根据“Scientists from different countries have worked hard to protect Antarctica’s wildlife and land. Some of them come to study the wildlife. Other scientists study Antarctica’s ice.”

People around the world start their day with a cup of coffee. They believe coffee helps them keep awake and gives them energy. This is because of something called caffeine (咖啡因) in coffee. But a new study shows ______!
Researchers worked with 20 students from Slovenian universities. All were healthy and in their early 20s, and drank coffee often.
Before the study, the students didn’t drink any coffee for eight hours. They also slept for at least seven hours the night before. The scientists checked their health, heart rate (心率) and blood pressure (血压).
When the study began, each student got a cup of coffee. All the cups looked and tasted the same. None of them had real coffee with full caffeine. But in half of the cups, scientists added just a little bit of caffeine. The students didn’t know which kind they got.
After drinking the coffee, the students waited 20 minutes. Then they took some tests. The scientists wanted to see how the coffee changed their bodies and brains.
They thought the coffee with caffeine would make a bigger change. But something surprising happened. Both groups showed the same body changes. Their hearts beat more slowly, and their blood pressure went up.
The students also did some math and listening tests. There was no big difference in the math grades. But for the listening test, all students did better after coffee. The ones who had caffeine did a little better, but the others also improved.
This shows that caffeine may help us listen and understand sounds faster. But it also shows that people may feel more awake just because they think they had caffeine. This is called the placebo effect
27.Why do people drink coffee in the morning?
A.To help them sleep well. B.To help them stay awake.
C.To make their heart slowly. D.To lower their blood pressure.
28.What was special about the coffee the students drank?
A.It was made from tea leaves.
B.Each cup of coffee tasted different.
C.It could make the students give up coffee.
D.It looked like common coffee but had a little or no caffeine.
29.Which of the following can we put back into the blank “______”?
A.coffee with no caffeine can help people more
B.coffee with caffeine is bad for people’s health
C.even coffee with no caffeine might do the same thing
D.drinking too much coffee makes it harder for people to focus on work
30.What may the writer talk about next?
A.How the placebo effect works.
B.Whether other drinks can make people awake.
C.Who experiences the placebo effect often in their life.
D.What people can do to tell whether coffee has caffeine.
【答案】27.B 28.D 29.C 30.A
根据“People around the world start their day with a cup of coffee. They believe coffee helps them keep awake and gives them energy.”
根据“All the cups looked and tasted the same. None of them had real coffee with full caffeine. But in half of the cups, scientists added just a little bit of caffeine.”
根据“This is because of something called caffeine (咖啡因) in coffee.”及“But a new study shows...”
根据“This is called the placebo effect (安慰剂效应).” 故选A。

后文“She decided to plant it in the soil carefully at once”说明了对待种子的态度是认真的。
根据“Amy was very curious about what would happen to the seed.”
后文“She still watered the soil three times a day.”

根据“But after four days, only bare soil greeted her.”

根据“She didn’t check the seed again and again any longer.”

根据“Then one morning, a green shoot (嫩芽) pushed through the soil.”以及“Amy was too excited.”
根据前文“Still be patient!”
根据“Finally the plant grew golden petals”和“a bright sunflower”可知,花苞开放后最终长成、变成了向日葵。
根据前文“Plant it…and you’ll understand its secret”可知,文章开头奶奶提到种子的秘密,结尾艾米种出向日葵,明白了这个秘密。

22.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The Importance of Friendship B.The Value of Sharing

A. B. C. D.
