lyrics (e.g., "I don't care what is written in your history").
3). Guide Ss to analyze the sentence structure: "People say (that) I'm crazy."
Step 2. Grammar Presentation (Activity 4a)
1). Ask Ss to read the sentences in 4a and circle the connecting words ("what", "how", "why").
2). Guide Ss to observe the word order in the object clauses. Emphasize that unlike direct questions, object clauses must use statement word order (Subject + Verb).
3). Present the overview of wh-word object clauses:
- When an object clause is a special question, the question word serves as the connecting word and cannot be omitted.
- The word order must be statement order.
4). Explain the functions of question words:
- Question pronouns ("what", "who", "whom", "whose", "which") can act as subjects, objects, predicatives, or attributes in the clauses.
- Question adverbs ("when", "where", "how", "why") act as adverbials in the clauses.
5). Highlight the punctuation rule: The punctuation at the end of the complex sentence is determined by the main clause (e.g., "Could you tell me...?" uses a question mark; "I don't understand..." uses a period).
