Objectives:

Language Ability:

1. Ss can master key vocabulary and phrases about learning methods, such as take notes, use flashcards, set learning goals, create mind maps, do hands-on experiments, and connect... with....

2. Ss can use the target sentence patterns "How do you study...?", "I study by...", and "The best way is to..." to talk about learning strategies.

3. Ss can catch specific information about how different people study different subjects from the listening material.

 

Learning Ability:

4. Ss can use predicting strategies based on pictures before listening.

5. Ss can summarize and reflect on their own learning methods, and learn from others' effective study habits.

6. Ss can compare different study methods, analyze their effectiveness, and choose the most suitable ones for themselves.

Teaching Procedures:

 

Step 1. Lead - in

1). Show the picture from the PPT (a teacher and students having a group study). Ask Ss: What do you see in this photo? What do you think is going on?

2). Ask Ss: Do you think you are a good learner? How do you study Chinese/maths/English?

3). Guide Ss to brainstorm learning methods and introduce the phrases in 1a, such as take notes, use flashcards, review key ideas, set learning

goals, create mind maps, and work in groups.

4). Encourage Ss to add more learning tips they know (e.g., keep a mistake notebook, read aloud).

5). Purpose: To activate students' background knowledge about learning methods and introduce the topic naturally.

 

Step 2. Pre - listening

1). Show the three pictures in 1a (a boy doing an experiment, a boy using a tablet, a girl making a timeline).

2). Ask Ss to look at the pictures and predict: What subject do you think it is about? What is the student doing in the picture?

   - Picture A: It is about physics. The student is doing a hands-on experiment.

   - Picture B: It is about maths. The student is using a learning app to study functions.

   - Picture C: It is about history. The student is making a timeline.

3). Purpose: To develop students' picture-reading and prediction skills, and prepare them for the listening tasks.

 

Step 3. While - listening

1). 1st listening (Activity 1b): Let Ss listen to the three conversations and match them with the pictures. Check answers together.
