Objectives:

Language Ability:

1. Ss can master key vocabulary and phrases such as look up, aloud, keep a diary, take part in, in general, suit, and speed.

2. Ss can understand and use the target structures: "if" conditional clauses (主将从现) and "The more..., the faster..." comparative structure.

3. Ss can catch key information about good ways to learn English from the listening material.

4. Ss can use listening strategies to take notes and complete charts.

5. Ss can reflect on their own English learning habits and identify their difficulties.

6. Ss can analyze common problems in English learning and propose effective solutions.

7. Ss can distinguish the usage of the easily confused words aloud, loud, and loudly.

Teaching Procedures:

 

Step 1. Lead - in

1). Discuss with Ss: How long have you learned English? Do you think you are a good learner?

2). Ask Ss: How do you study English? Do you have any good ways to share?

3). Guide Ss to brainstorm learning methods and share their personal

experiences.

4). Purpose: To activate Ss' background knowledge, arouse their interest, and lead into the topic of English learning methods.

 

Step 2. Pre - listening (Activity 2a)

1). Ask Ss to read the learning tips in 2a and tick the ways that are true for them.

   - look up words in a dictionary

   - keep a learning diary

   - speak English with friends/classmates

   - take part in class discussions

   - read aloud to practise speaking

   - repeat dialogues from English films

2). Language Focus: Explain "look up" (查阅 / 抬头看) and the usage of "aloud, loud, loudly".

   - aloud (adv.): read aloud, cry aloud.

   - loud (adj./adv.): speak louder, in a loud voice.

   - loudly (adv.): ring loudly, knock loudly.

3). Purpose: To help Ss familiarize themselves with the target vocabulary and prepare for the listening task.

 

Step 3. While - listening
