7. Ss can evaluate Hua Luogeng's learning methods and reflect on their own learning habits.
Cultural Awareness:
8. Ss can learn about the inspiring story and learning methods of the famous Chinese mathematician Hua Luogeng, cultivating a spirit of self-study and perseverance.
Key and Difficult Points:
Key point
Ss can master the three key elements of object clauses: conjunctions, word order (statement order), and tense agreement.
Difficult point
Ss can correctly apply the rule of tense agreement (especially when the main clause is in the past tense) and use "whether" instead of "if" in specific situations (e.g., after prepositions, before infinitives, in "whether or not" structures).
Teaching Procedures:
Step 1. Lead - in & Observation
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
1). Show sentences from previous lessons on the PPT (e.g., "I wonder if you could help me.", "I think the best way is to do maths problems.").
2). Ask Ss to read the sentences and observe the underlined parts. Guide them to realize these are Object Clauses (宾语从句) serving as the object of the verbs.
3). Activity 4a: Ask Ss to read the sentences and circle the conjunctions and underline the object clauses.
Step 2. Grammar Presentation
1). Concept: Explain that an object clause acts as the object in a complex sentence.
2). Conjunctions:
- "that": Used for statements. It has no meaning and can often be omitted in spoken English (but not omitted in specific cases like when there are two clauses or an inserted phrase).
- "if / whether": Used for general questions (yes/no questions) or alternative questions. They mean "是否" and cannot be omitted.
- Special rules for "whether": Must be used in "whether or not", after a preposition, or before an infinitive.
3). Word Order: Emphasize that no matter whether the main clause is a statement or a question, the object clause must use statement word order (Subject + Verb).
