For a nine-year-old girl in Dubai, that meant more time at home. She picked up a pencil and began to draw. Little did she know that this habit would grow into international recognition, with great achievements in major competitions. Now 15, Nikita looks back at how it all began. “I always enjoyed drawing, but the slow time gave me something new: Time to practice after online classes,” she says. Instead of drawing once in a while, she started spending hours on it every day. She became interested in portraits (肖像). Faces were the most challenging subject because even a small mistake could change a person’s expression. She remembers drawing eyes again and again, trying to understand how light, shadows, and sizes worked together. Nikita didn’t have an art teacher. She learned from online videos and studied the work of other artists. Through trial and error, she kept trying to find a solution, as she says. “I could tell when something looked wrong, but I didn’t always know why. I learned by watching, studying, and most importantly, making mistakes and trying again,” she says. Her progress was slow but continuous. She didn’t notice a single big change — it happened little by little. Soon, she started sharing her work. Then came opportunities she had never expected. She received an art scholarship (奖学金) from her school and was asked to show her paintings in exhibitions. Her mother, Lisa Chatterjee, is proud of her daughter’s journey. “At first, we thought drawing was just one of her hobbies,” she says. “But Nikita never stopped. She kept drawing, and her love for art only grew.” Now a young artist with many achievements, Nikita proves that hard work and patience can turn a simple hobby into something great. Even without a teacher, she found her own way through practice and determination. 4. What made Nikita take up drawing? A. Pressure from her family members.  B. Encouragement from her art teacher. C. Extra spare time during her illness.  D. Invitations from international contests. 5. Why did Nikita consider portrait painting difficult? A. Tiny errors may have a big influence. B. It took too long to finish in one sitting. C. They required more colors than other subjects. D. Few online materials could offer useful guidance. 6. What is the mother’s attitude towards Nikita’s growth in art? A. Doubtful.  B. Admiring.  C. Unconcerned.  D. Disappointed. 7. What lesson can we learn from Nikita’s story? A. Drawing is a good way to spend free time. B. It is better to have a teacher than to learn alone. C. Nothing can stop us from realizing our dreams. D. With efforts and determination, we can achieve our goals. C 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第一段中的“When Nikita Neogy fell ill, she couldn’t go to school and the world slowed down. For a nine-year-old girl in Dubai, that meant more time at home. She picked up a pencil and began to draw.(尼基塔·尼奥吉生病时,她不能去上学,生活节奏慢了下来。对于一个住在迪拜的九岁女孩来说,这意味着有更多待在家里的时间。她拿起一支铅笔,开始画画。)”可知,是生病期间多出的空闲时间让她开始画画。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Faces were the most challenging subject because even a small mistake could change a person’s expression.(人物面部是最有挑战性的题材,因为哪怕一个小小的失误,都有可能改变一个人的神情。)” 根据第六段中的“Her mother, Lisa Chatterjee, is proud of her daughter’s journey.(她的母亲莉萨·查特吉为女儿的成长历程感到自豪。)” 根据最后一段中的“Now a young artist with many achievements, Nikita proves that hard work and patience can turn a simple hobby into something great. Even without a teacher, she found her own way through practice and determination.(如今尼基塔已是一名收获诸多成就的年轻艺术家,她证明努力和耐心可以把简单爱好变成了不起的事业。即便没有老师,她依靠练习与坚定的决心找到了属于自己的道路。)”可知,我们可以学到:付出努力、拥有决心,就能够实现目标。 C When we go on holiday, we may like to go sightseeing. This means visiting — or seeing — famous and interesting places. But would you be interested in “sightsmelling”? That’s not a real word, but perhaps it should be! It could mean choosing a place to visit based on the way it smells! And if that sounds — or, “smells” — like something you might like to do, a company from the UK has made a list of what it says are Europe’s best-smelling cities. This wasn’t a scientific study, but there was a method that was used to decide which places smelled best. First, the company looked at how clean each city is. This measure is called the “environmental performance index (指数)”, and it includes things like cleanliness of air and water. Cities were also ranked based on how many bakeries, perfume (香水) shops and flower shops they have for every 10 square kilometers! So if you like the smells of fresh bread, flowers and perfume — then, according to the report, Athens is the place to go. The Greek capital was at the top of the list, with more than 30 bakeries and 30 florists (花店) for every 10 square kilometers. The report added that Athens also has great street markets full of fresh food, which helps make it a sweet-smelling city. However, visitors who have been in the famous old city during one of its garbage collector strikes will know that Athens doesn’t always smell so good! Paris, known for its baguettes — a kind of bread, was second in the list, while Zurich, Dublin and the city of Luxembourg came next. In ninth place was Valletta, the small but busy capital of Malta, where there are 196 bakeries for every 10 square kilometers! But don’t expect to find hundreds of bakeries there — the city is less than 1 square kilometer in size! 8. What is “sightsmelling” according to the text? A. Learning a place with your nose. B. Visiting a place because of its smells. C. Seeing famous places with your eyes. D. Smelling flowers and bread in a market. 9. How did the company find out the best-smelling cities? A. Comparing the size of each city. B. Visiting all the bakeries in person. C. Asking local people to smell the flowers. D. Studying the environmental performance index. 10. What can we learn about the top five cities on the list? A. Some of them are very small. B. Their smell mainly depends on bakeries. C. Not all of them always smell good. D. Their smell changes in different seasons. 11. What can be the best title for the text? A. The Most Beautiful Cities in Europe B. A New Way to Choose Your Holiday Place C. Popular Holiday Places for Foreign Visitors D. Go “Sightsmelling” in Europe’s Best Smelling Cities 【答案】8. B 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第二段中的“It could mean choosing a place to visit based on the way it smells!(它的意思是根据一座城市的气味来选择游览的地方!)” 根据第三段中的“First, the company looked at how clean each city is. This measure is called the “environmental performance index (指数)”, and it includes things like cleanliness of air and water.(首先,这家公司考察每座城市的洁净程度。这项指标叫做“环境绩效指数”,包含空气和水质洁净度等内容。)”可知,该公司通过研究环境绩效指数来筛选气味宜人的城市。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“However, visitors who have been in the famous old city during one of its garbage collector strikes will know that Athens doesn’t always smell so good!(然而,在垃圾清运工人罢工期间去过这座著名老城的游客会知道,雅典并不总是气味宜人!)” 根据第一段中的“But would you be interested in “sightsmelling”?(但是你会对“闻香观光”感兴趣吗?)”以及第二段中的“a company from the UK has made a list of what it says are Europe’s best-smelling cities(一家英国公司列出了欧洲气味最好闻的城市名单)”可知,全文围绕欧洲“闻香观光”展开。 D A new study shows that getting more sleep can help students get better grades. Researchers studied over 1,100 university students in the United States. They wanted to see if small rewards could help students sleep more and if that would improve their schoolwork. At the start of the study, students slept only about 6.6 hours each night. Only 43% of them slept 7 hours or more on weeknights. Many students went to bed very late — some after 1 a.m., and one in four after 2 a.m. The researchers used smart wristbands (手环) to track sleep. They also built a phone app to send bedtime reminders and give small cash rewards. Students could earn about $4.75 each night if they slept at least 7 hours. The results were clear. Students who got rewards slept more. They added about 19 minutes of sleep on weeknights. Their grades also went up. Those in the sleep program earned higher grades that semester (学期). Freshmen and STEM students benefited the most. Freshmen were away from home for the first time and had to manage their own time. Students in science and math courses also showed big improvements, especially in classes held around midday. The program helped students build more regular sleep schedules and cut back on nighttime screen use, including time spent watching videos or browsing (浏览) the Internet. Interestingly, students did not study more — they just changed when they studied. They moved some study time from late night to morning. What’s more, when the cash rewards stopped, some good habits stayed. Students kept about 8 extra minutes of sleep each night, along with more regular bedtimes and less screen time at night. This study shows that small rewards can help students build healthy sleep habits. Better sleep not only makes students feel more rested but also helps them do better in school. Sometimes, a good night’s sleep is just as important as hard work! 12. What is the purpose of the study? A. To learn about students’ sleep patterns. B. To find out why students sleep late at night. C. To see if more sleep can lead to better grades. D. To test if cash rewards can change study habits. 13. How did the researchers encourage students to sleep more? A. They gave them better grades. B. They gave them wristbands as gifts. C. They asked their teachers to give less homework. D. They sent them bedtime alerts and offered money. 14. What is Paragraph 5 mainly about? A. The importance of good habits. B. The effects of the sleep program. C. The bad habits that students gave up. D. The influence of sleep on students’ health. 15. In which section of a newspaper may this text appear? A. Education.  B. Business.  C. Culture.  D. Sports. C 13. D 14. B 15. 根据第一段中的“A new study shows that getting more sleep can help students get better grades. They also built a phone app to send bedtime reminders and give small cash rewards. Students could earn about $4.75 each night if they slept at least 7 hours.(研究人员使用智能手环监测睡眠,还开发手机应用发送就寝提醒并提供小额现金奖励。学生每晚睡眠达到7小时以上大约可以获得4.75美元。)”可知,研究人员通过发送就寝提醒和提供现金奖励鼓励学生多睡觉。 【14题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第五段中的“The program helped students build more regular sleep schedules and cut back on nighttime screen use, including time spent watching videos or browsing (浏览) the Internet. Interestingly, students did not study more — they just changed when they studied.(这个项目帮助学生建立更规律的作息,减少夜间使用电子屏幕的时间,包括看视频和上网。有趣的是,学生并没有增加学习时长,只是调整了学习时间。)”可知,本段主要讲述该睡眠项目带来的各类影响。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中的“A new study shows that getting more sleep can help students get better grades.(一项新研究表明,增加睡眠有助于学生取得更好的成绩。)”以及尾段中的“This study shows that small rewards can help students build healthy sleep habits. Better sleep not only makes students feel more rested but also helps them do better in school.(这项研究表明小额奖励可以帮助学生养成健康的睡眠习惯。更好的睡眠不仅让学生休息得更充分,还能帮助他们在学校表现更好。)”可知,文章围绕学生睡眠和学业展开,属于教育话题,最可能出现在报纸的教育板块。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 The first week of a new school term often starts with good intentions. You set three alarms, buy a new notebook, and tell yourself this will be the term when you stay organized. Then reality sets in. One alarm is ignored (忽略), breakfast becomes a cookie, and the notebook disappears under some clothes. But this does not mean you are bad at the daily round. ____16____ Consider making your bed. It sounds almost comically simple. ____17____ You have completed one task before opening your laptop or checking your messages. Later, returning to a tidy room can make the day feel less messy. Meals matter, too. Students sometimes miss them because they are rushing to class, getting used to a dining hall, or learning to cook on their own. The result is often predictable: Energy drops, concentration disappears, and everything becomes boring by mid-afternoon. ____18____ Just protect a few regular times to eat. Even a simple breakfast or a light dinner is better than depending on coffee all day. ____19____ College offers endless reasons to stay awake: Games, parties, homework, and the urge (欲望) to watch one more video. Missing sleep once in a while won’t ruin your term, but always changing your bedtime can leave every morning feeling like a surprise attack. So begin small. Make the bed. Eat something before the afternoon. Put the phone down a little earlier. None of these habits will magically produce perfect grades or effortless mornings. ____20____ Sometimes a successful school year does not begin with a big plan. It begins with knowing what happens next. A. You just need to start small. B. Having a good habit is important. C. A perfect meal plan is not necessary. D. Sleep may be the hardest habit to protect. E. But it gives the morning a clear starting point. F. Actually, all people are in the same situation as you. G. Together, however, they can turn a wild term into one that feels manageable. A 17. E 18. C 19. D 20. 【16题详解】 上文“But this does not mean you are bad at the daily round. (但这并不意味着你不擅长日常事务)”指出不必因混乱自责;下文“Consider making your bed.(考虑整理床铺)”引出从小事做起的具体办法,A选项“你只需要从小处着手”承接上文的宽慰,顺势引出下文列举的微小习惯,承上启下,符合题意。 【17题详解】 上文“Consider making your bed. It sounds almost comically simple.(考虑整理床铺。这听起来简单得可笑)”点明铺床这件事看起来微不足道;下文“You have completed one task before opening your laptop or checking your messages. Later, returning to a tidy room can make the day feel less messy. (在打开电脑或者查看消息前,你就已经完成一项任务。之后,回到一个整洁的房间可以让一天感觉不那么凌乱)”介绍铺床带来的正向效果。E选项“但它给早晨一个清晰的起点”用but转折,跳出“这件事很简单”的表层印象,引出铺床这件小事的价值,引出下文的好处。 【18题详解】 上文“The result is often predictable: Energy drops, concentration disappears, and everything becomes boring by mid-afternoon.(结果往往可以预料:精力下降,注意力涣散,下午中段所有事情都变得乏味)”说明了不规律吃饭带来的不良后果;下文“Just protect a few regular times to eat.(只需保证固定的几个就餐时间)”告诉读者简单可行的做法,不需要复杂安排。 【19题详解】 下文“College offers endless reasons to stay awake: Games, parties, homework, and the urge (欲望) to watch one more video. (大学里有无数熬夜的理由:游戏、聚会、作业,还有再看一个视频的冲动)”围绕熬夜、睡眠不足展开论述。D选项“睡眠或许是最难坚持保持的习惯”是本段的中心句,总领本段,引出后文关于睡眠困难的内容。 【20题详解】 上文“None of these habits will magically produce perfect grades or effortless mornings. Last year, right after graduation, I made a choice that terrified and excited me in equal measure: I left my parents’ protective wings and moved to Nanjing, completely ____21____. I complained, but all of a sudden, I realized it was Monday and the first class was English. The teacher, Mr. White, is usually kind but very strict. It was already 7:30 a.m. Moving quickly, I chose a dark green shirt, blue jeans, and black flats before hurrying downstairs. My mom greeted me cheerfully, but I still felt unhappy. Seeing the clock turn to 7:45, I quickly ate my breakfast, threw my books into my backpack, and rushed outside. Unfortunately, I was too late. The bus driver didn’t hear my shouts and drove right past my stop. Disappointed, I ran back home to find my mom gone. So I asked Astrid for help. She finally agreed to drive me, at the cost of cleaning her room the next day. “This is the last time,” she said as we got into the car. We had not driven far when suddenly — bump! — another car hit us from behind. The airbags opened, and I fell forward, shocked. Thankfully, neither of us was hurt, but Astrid’s car was damaged (毁坏). So I had to walk since it was not very far away. The problem was, it was raining outside and I didn’t bring an umbrella or raincoat with me. What was worse, within minutes, it was pouring heavily. Finally, I saw a red building — my school, Mapleton Middle School. At the school gate, the security guard stopped me. With a half-smile, he handed me a yellow card which stated LATE PASS. I entered the building, leaving wet footprints behind. When I got to my classroom, it was quiet. I tried to get in silently while Mr. White was busy writing on the blackboard. Carefully, I slipped into my seat, hoping Mr. White wouldn’t notice me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The bell rang at last, and I was ready to leave when Mr. White called my name. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Carefully, I slipped into my seat, hoping Mr. White wouldn’t notice me. My heart pounded as I kept my head down, pretending to look for my books. But when Mr. White turned around, his eyes found me at once. He looked at my wet hair and dripping clothes, which gave away everything. However, he said nothing in front of the class. He just nodded and continued teaching. I let out a quiet breath of relief, but I knew that he would not let this pass easily. The bell rang at last, and I was ready to leave when Mr. White called my name. My face turned red as all eyes fell on me. Slowly, I walked to his desk, my heart racing. To my surprise, he smiled and said gently, “You’re late, but you still came. That’s what matters.” He handed me a clean towel and asked if I was okay. His words, which I had not expected, warmed my heart. I thanked him with a big smile, feeling that school was not so bad after all. 词汇激活 行为类 ①低头:keep my head down/lower my head ②点头:nod /give a nod /nod in acknowledgment 情绪类 ①惊讶:surprise/amazement ②感动(暖心):warm my heart/touch my heart/melt my heart 【点睛】【高分句型1】My heart pounded as I kept my head down, pretending to look for my books. B When Nikita Neogy fell ill, she couldn’t go to school and the world slowed down. C When we go on holiday, we may like to go sightseeing. Go “Sightsmelling” in Europe’s Best Smelling Cities D A new study shows that getting more sleep can help students get better grades. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
