In July 2026, Wang Hong won the Fields Medal (菲尔兹奖), the top prize in mathematics. To celebrate her success, her hometown newspaper Guangxi Daily published the article “Wang’s Conjecture (猜想)” on July 25. It took nearly half of the front page.

The headline has special meanings. “Wang” is Wang Hong’s family name and shows her high position as a world-famous woman mathematician. “Conjecture” refers to the difficult math problem she proved, as well as her long hard research journey.

When the special issue (特刊) came out, readers across China bought them up quickly. Some people tried to resell the newspapers at higher prices. To meet people’s needs, the newspaper printed more copies and opened official online shops for readers to buy the papers at the normal price.

Wang Hong grew up in Guilin. Her parents, a math teacher and an English teacher, built a relaxing learning environment. They encouraged her to follow her curiosity and face troubles calmly. Good family education supported her research on hard math problems.

We are now in the digital age. Online information changes fast and is incomplete. This newspaper brought new energy to print media. People’s love for the paper shows society’s great respect for researchers who devote their whole lives to math study.page number 1

Do you find it hard to get out of bed on a cold winter morning? It’s not surprising—the cold temperature makes us not want to leave the warmth of our beds. But what else makes it so hard to get up in winter?

One big reason is the lack (缺乏) of sunlight. Some hormones (激素) influence our sleep. For example, melatonin (褪黑激素) makes us sleepy, while cortisol (皮质醇) makes us feel awake. Sunlight helps us wake up by reducing melatonin and increasing cortisol. In winter, since there are fewer hours of daylight and the sun rises later, it is harder for us to wake up.

Besides, our habits may change when the days are colder and darker. We may eat fewer fruits and vegetables, enjoy more sweet food, and not exercise as much. These changes can lower (降低) our energy levels and make it even harder to get up early.

Unluckily, no matter how our bodies change in winter, we have to get up. These suggestions may help.

● Get a sunrise alarm clock. These clocks are designed to slowly light up your room like the sun. This can help wake your body up when the alarm clock goes off.

● Try putting your alarm clock across the room so you have to get up to turn it off.page number 2
