On September 3, 2025, a grand military parade (阅兵) was held in Tiananmen Square to mark the 80th anniversary (周年) of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance (抵抗) against Japanese Aggression (侵略). Among all the highlights, the aerial (空中的) echelons stood out, showing the great strength of China’s air force today.
Helicopters (直升机) carrying national flags led the way, followed by formations (编队、队形) of early warning planes, fighter jets, bombers, and transport planes. Many of these are cutting-edge (尖端的) models, and some have made their first public appearance. The neat and powerful flying formations drew loud cheers from the crowd below.
In the past, however, things were very different. At the founding ceremony in 1949, there were only 17 planes in the parade. To make the formation look bigger, some fighters even flew around and passed Tiananmen Square twice. At that time, there were very few types of planes, and none were made in China.
The big change doesn’t come easily. It is the result of hard work by generations of Chinese scientists and workers. Now, China has more planes than ever before. This shows how far China’s aviation (航空) industry has come.
“The rivers and mountains remain, the country is prosperous (繁荣的) and the people are at peace. This golden age is just as you wished for.” This phrase is the best comfort we can give to our ancestors.
5. How many planes were there in the parade at the founding ceremony in 1949?
A. 17. B. 27. C. 37. D. 47.
6. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. The development of China’s air force. B. The history of Tiananmen Square.
C. Chinese scientists and workers. D. The founding ceremony in 1949.
7. What is the author’s view on the change of China’s aviation industry?
A. It is not a big change. B. It comes easily.
C. It is the result of hard work. D. It has nothing to do with scientists and workers.
8. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. Our ancestors didn’t want such a golden age.
B. We should forget our ancestors.
C. The current peaceful and prosperous situation is what our ancestors hoped for.
D. The golden age is not as good as expected.

The movie “731” will come out in China on September 18, 2025. This date is the 94th anniversary of the September 18th Incident— it is an important day in Chinese history.
The film takes place during World War II. It tells the true story of Japan’s Unit 731. This army unit did cruel human experiments on people in Harbin. The movie shows how common Chinese people suffered and fought against the invaders.
People think the movie will have a great screening rate of 99.7% on its first day. Millions of people have said they are interested in watching it. There are two main reasons for its popularity: First, it helps us remember a painful part of history— we must not forget it. Second, 2025 is the 80th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War. This makes people think more about history.
This movie is an important educational tool. It teaches us to value peace. But because there are some intense and disturbing scenes, the film is recommended for viewers over 18 years old. Younger viewers should watch it with their parents’ help.

We usually have a runny nose when catching a cold. Yet our parents tell us not to blow our nose so hard. Why is that?
When we blow our nose very hard, the air can move from our nose to our ears and cause problems. When we have a cold, the tube that connects our nose to our ears gets smaller. So the air can’t go back to the nose and stays in the ear. This can hurt the eardrum (鼓膜) and might make our ears ring or even cause hearing loss. If the things from our nose go into our ears with viruses (病毒) and bacteria (细菌), it can cause ear infections (感染).
If the air from the nose goes into the eyes, it can make the pressure in the eyes go up. This might cause different eye problems and even affect how well we can see in the long run. This is why, sometimes, when you blow your nose too hard, both your eyes and ears may feel uncomfortable.
To clear your nose the right way, just close one nostril (鼻孔) at a time and softly blow. If your nose is blocked up, putting a warm towel on your nose and forehead (前额) can also help you feel better.
Since your nose and throat are connected, you can also try to get the mucus (粘液) out from your mouth. It’s a good idea to take a deep breath with the nose, then cough quickly to get out the mucus in your mouth.
13. What will happen if you blow your nose too hard?
A. You may become blind.
B. Your eyes may get an infection.
C. You may get a hearing problem.
D. The pressure in your ear will go down.
14. What is a good way to clean your nose?
A. Clean the mucus in your mouth. B. Breathe deeply and cough quickly.
C. Blow with two nostrils at a time. D. Put a towel on your forehead.
15. What is the title of the passage?
A. Ways to deal with colds. B. Illnesses caused by colds.
C. Have a runny nose. D. Blow your nose.
16. What is the structure of the passage?
(①= Paragraph 1 ②= Paragraph 2,…)
A. B. C. D.

The new school year is coming. Who will be your new classmates? Will you sit alone or in pairs? In fact, there are many different classroom seating arrangements (排列). Let’s take a look at some of them.
Traditional Seating
Students sit alone in rows. This seating arrangement helps students listen to the teacher carefully. But it is not convenient for students to have discussions in class.
Paired Seating
Two desks are put together. Students sit side by side. Sitting in pairs allows students to discuss and cooperate with their deskmates (同桌).However, some students can’t focus on their lessons because they may chat with their deskmates.
Group Seating
Students sit in small groups, facing each other. This arrangement is great for either large classes or small classrooms. It is good for group discussions and cooperation. But there is a problem. When students are doing group work, some of them may sit back and leave others to find a way out.
U-Shape Seating
Desks are placed in a U-shape. This kind of seating creates an open space in the middle. The teacher has enough space to move around. However, it takes up more classroom space.
Every coin has two sides. Every seating arrangement has its own advantages and disadvantages.
