Have you ever watched a documentary that fills you with pride and respect for our country? The documentary Returning Home tells the stories of scientists who returned from overseas to support the development of China in the 1950s. It not only describes history but also shows the ideas and the patriotism (爱国精神) of the scientists. Returning Home has touched many people’s hearts. When discussing the influence of Returning Home on young people, the producer of the documentary said, “We hope teenagers can learn more about history from this documentary and be inspired by the patriotism of these scientists. Have you ever seen a young genius (天才) who wrote down her MIT dream at the age of 14 and solved world-famous maths problems with AI at 24? Wondering what makes her journey so amazing?
Hong Letong loved maths when she was a kid. She joined an Olympic maths training group in junior high. When she was only 14, she wrote “MIT” on her notebook. “In the world of learning maths, I feel like I’m travelling around the world,” she once said. During high school, she was one of just four girls on Guangdong’s top maths team, and her outstanding performance in the team then helped her win the Hua Luogeng Cup. At the age of 18, she entered MIT and broke records. She even got top prizes like the Morgan Prize, showing that her idea is true: “You have to push yourself hard to stand out.”
In 2022, she studied neuroscience (神经科学) at Oxford with the famous Rhodes Scholarship. Later, she began to study for two PhD programmes at Stanford. But she bravely quit (离开) both to start her company Axiom Maths in 2024, aiming to build an AI that doesn’t just “guess” maths answers, but gives solutions that can be checked as true.
In just four amazing months, her team’s AI solved two Erdös problems-super hard maths questions that confused (困惑) experts for 30 and 45 years!
Hong’s story is full of inspirations. “Loving maths is like seeing something wonderful,” she writes on her social media. Your age, your birthplace, or how things usually are-none of these can stop you if you love what you do. And this young AI maths expert is a good example of that!

Everyone wants to be successful, but success does not come easily. What qualities do we need to succeed? And how should we deal with failure along the way? 17. ________
First, we need perseverance. Success never happens overnight. Thomas Edison, the inventor of the light bulb, failed thousands of times before he succeeded. He once said, “I have not failed. 18. ________” If he had given up after the first failure, we might still be living in the dark today.
Second, we need courage. Many people are afraid to try new things because they fear failure. But failure is not the end of the world. Every time we fail, we learn something new. Failure teaches us what does not work, so we can try a different way next time.
Third, we need a positive attitude. 19. ________ But successful people see failure as a lesson, not a defeat (失败). They ask themselves, “What can I learn from this?” Then they use that knowledge to do better next time.
20. ________ The answer is simple: accept it, learn from it, and move on. Do not hide from failure or pretend (假装) it did not happen. Look at it honestly, find out what went wrong, and then try again with a better plan.
In conclusion, success requires perseverance, courage, and a positive attitude. Failure is not our enemy-it is our teacher. As long as we keep learning and never give up, we will finally achieve our goals.
A. If you don’t give up, you will succeed.
B. I have just found 10,000 ways that will not work.

How many times had you got a little money, and then realised later you wanted to buy something special but all your money was gone? The way to stop this from happening is planning. Let’s see how we can save money.
Starting to save can be as simple as having three places to keep money. These can be different bank accounts (账户) or even boxes in a drawer.
“Divide your money into spending, saving and giving,” says the bank manager Bryan Link. “Work out the percentage (百分比) for each to help you understand the different uses of your money. 10 percent should go to saving, 10 percent to giving and the rest to spending.”
Be sure to set some goals for saving money. Write down the things you need and the things you want. Need school clothes but want the newest computer game? Talk with your parents about what they’ll help you buy, and then save up for the rest.
“If you are saving for something big, work out how many weeks it will take you to save money to buy it,” advises Dave Ramsey, a radio host. “When you save enough money, why not buy something you want? You will have a sense of satisfaction when you work hard and buy things with your own money.”
If you spend your savings buying an expensive thing, perhaps you won’t save enough money in the end. When this happens, don’t give up. Learn from your mistakes and do better next time.
41. How many parts should we divide our money into?
