He placed his beef next to my thick one and said, “Courtney, your beef is bigger than mine. You don’t need to eat; you’re too fat.” Then he walked out laughing. From then on, I was unwilling to wear shorts until I was 30 years old. For the next 15 years, I spent summer after summer roasting in long pants. But then I met Ragen Chastain. I couldn’t believe that this almost 300-pound woman who, like myself, was so energetic and happy in her own skin. I listened as she shared her own journey to recovery and self-love. She talked about how amazing our bodies are, simply because of the things they do every day — like breathing, pumping blood to every cell and walking. Walking! I suddenly realized how foolish I’d been for so long. There are people who are born without legs, or who lack properly working legs, or who lose their legs, and I’d been hiding my perfectly strong, healthy and beautiful legs in shame. The next day, I bought three pairs of shorts and a sundress and spent the entire summer letting my legs see the sun and feel the breeze. The next time anyone comments on your body in a negative way, look them straight in the eye, smile and say, “If what you see bothers you so much, feel free to practice the ancient art of looking somewhere else.” That’s Ragen’s own creation, but I don’t think she’ll mind if you use it. 4. What can we know about the author when she was a teenager? A. She was fat. B. She disliked beef. C. Her parents loved her more. D. Her brother always helped her. 5. Which of the following can best describe Ragen Chastain? A. Honest. B. Clever. C. Positive. D. Responsible. 6. Why did the author buy three pairs of shorts? A. The shorts were on sale. B. She was inspired by Ragen Chastain. C. The shorts were suitable for the weather. D. She wanted to give them to Ragen Chastain. 7. What does the author want to tell us? A. Dress whatever we want and ignore others’ judgement. B. There are many people who are as fat as us in the world. C. Love ourselves and don’t care about others’ negative opinions. D. Eat as you like and there’s no need to care about our bodies. C Winters in Norway can be long and dark, with very little sunlight. But winter can be one of the most exciting times to visit, especially for music lovers. The annual Ice Music Festival celebrates the sounds of winter. At the festival, held in the small mountain town of Geilo, world-class musicians play frozen instruments in a musical band unlike any other. The first Ice Music Festival took place in 2006, but its director, Terje Isungset, had been making instruments from ice since 1999. Terje, a creative musician known for using natural elements in his instruments, described discovering the capability to create sound with ice as “art by accident”. Once he learned of the different sounds produced with ice, he began experimenting with a variety of instruments, including harps (竖琴) and horns (小号). In 2005 he published All Ice Records, a record of ice-only music. It’s the instruments that make the Ice Music Festival unique. The process of creating them begins at a lake near Geilo. Here the ice is clean and pure, perfect for making music. The ice must be natural. Man-made ice does not produce the same sound. Workers cut 272kg blocks of ice from the lake and transport them back to town. Next, ice sculptor (雕塑家) Bill Covitz works alongside the musicians for hours to create instruments. Bill carves individual parts of each instrument, then uses water as glue to hold the parts together. Working with ice creates new challenges for the musicians. The ice instruments are much more fragile than regular instruments. And performers can’t play familiar songs because they don’t know what sounds the ice instruments will make. “You cannot go on stage and expect a certain sound. You have to play with the sound that the instrument actually can make. And then try to create good music out of this,” says Terje. Perhaps the biggest challenge, though, is being sure that the instruments don’t melt (融化)! The musicians’ body heat may cause damage to the instruments, especially for horn players who are blowing warm air right into the ice! Despite the challenges, the festival brings people from around the world to enjoy the beauty of winter, nature, and music. 8. Why is the ice from a lake near Geilo perfect for making music? A. It’s clean and pure.  B. It’s man-made. C. It can be transported.  D. It can be sculpted. 9. What’s the first step to create the ice instruments? A. The sculptor creates the instruments. B. Workers transport the ice to the town. C. Workers cut blocks of ice from the lake. D. The sculptor glues the parts of instruments together. 10. What does the underlined word “fragile” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Usually seen.  B. Tightly stuck.  C. Widely found.  D. Easily broken. 11. What’s the text mainly about? A. All Ice Records.  B. Frozen instruments.  C. Winters in Norway.  D. World-class musicians. D Nowadays robots are able to do many things for humans, and recently researchers have even invented a smart spray paint can (喷漆罐) that robotically reproduces photographs as large-scale murals (壁画). The computerized technique, which basically spray-paints a photo, isn’t likely to create super-huge murals, but it can be used in digital art. Spray paint is affordable and easy to use. But covering walls of buildings and other large surfaces can be technically difficult even for skilled artists. The researchers wanted to create a way to help non-artists create reproductions of photographs as murals using spray painting. So, they developed a computer system. As the user waves the pre-programmed spray can, the system automatically hits the spray on/off button to reproduce the specific image as a spray painting. Paint instructions are sent through radio directly connected to the spray nozzle (喷嘴). A nearby computer decides the amount of paint of each color to spray in real time. The result is that the painting appears itself as the user waves the can around, without the user necessarily needing to know the picture in advance. Due to difficulty getting permission to spray paint buildings, the researchers tested the automated painting system on large sheets of paper. While the current testing of the method focused on flat surfaces, researchers have pointed out a real benefit of the new technique over standard printing: its usability on more complicated painting surfaces, including soft surfaces. “In this research, we can bring assistance technology to the physical world even for this very traditional painting technique,” says co-author Michael Brown, an assistant professor of computer science. “We hope our assistive approach could be a modern version of ‘paint by numbers’ for spray painting and enable unskilled users to create a physical piece of art.” 12. What is the smart spray paint can mainly used to do? A. Create murals from photographs.  B. Remove large murals on buildings. C. Paint digital murals on computers.  D. Help artists improve painting skills. 13. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about concerning the new technique? A. Why it matters.  B. How it works.  C. Its target users.  D. Its future application. 14. What advantage does the new technique have over standard printing? A. It is more affordable to use. B. It has better safety standards. C. It can be used on complex surfaces. D. It can be run by a personal computer. 15. What can be inferred from the last paragraph? A. The technique will replace traditional spray painting. B. The technique will transform the digital art industry. C. The technique will let more people enjoy artistic creation. D. The technique will boost the development of art education. We use words to communicate our thoughts, but sometimes our non-verbal language speaks louder than words. My family and friends were all smiling at me. There were colorful balloons all over the house, a big poster saying "HAPPY BIRTHDAY'', and of course a cake with 12 candles. It was a wonderful feeling. I knew that I had finally turned twelve and I might possibly get the thing I wanted most. I saw my mom and dad coming towards me with a small box which seemed to be a birthday present. When I opened the box, I couldn't believe my eyes. I had really gotten a mobile phone! Throwing myself into their arms, I let out a cry of joy, “Thank you! I love you guys!” “You're welcome. We knew this was going to make you happy but we didn't only get you this because you turned twelve, but also because you are doing well in school. We expect you to keep getting good grades." “Of course I will." I said confidently. As soon as I got to school the next morning, I was showing off my phone and asking everyone for their number. It was cool how I got so many contacts on the first day. It felt like I didn't even exist in that class anymore. I wouldn't pay much attention to the teachers because I was too busy on my phone. However, I didn't get caught using it. I am pretty sure that the teacher did notice that I stopped paying attention to her because a week later we took a test and I failed. What was worse, my mom had to sign the test. It was hard to show my mom the test. She was used to seeing A's and B's on my tests. Finally, I showed it to her, and she couldn't believe it. She was angry but most of all, she was disappointed. 注意: 1.续写短文的词数应为150左右; 2,续写部分分为两段,每段的开头已给出。 Paragraph 1: Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026年秋季学期第一次月考 高二英语 考生注意: 1. 1. 【答案】8. A 9. C 10. D 11. Next… (工人们从湖里切下272公斤重的冰块并运回镇上。接下来……)”可知,制作冰乐器的第一步是工人从湖中切割冰块。 【10题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段“The ice instruments are much more fragile than regular instruments. (冰制乐器比普通乐器更加fragile。)”以及下文“Perhaps the biggest challenge, though, is being sure that the instruments don’t melt (融化)! The musicians’ body heat may cause damage to the instruments... 【答案】12. A 13. B 14. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Realizing the reason for my failure, my parents started to dislike the fact that I had a phone. They said they had noticed that I never paid attention to them. It was like I had my own little world. So they thought we didn't communicate as much with my phone. They regretted having given me a phone, which made me ignore the family and study. Then I started to wonder if I was wrong. A week later I tried going a whole day without a phone and it didn’t go that badly. I had so much fun because I was actually spending time with my family and paying attention to them. From that day, I had a different opinion towards phones. Phones really take you away from the rest of the world. I' m not saying that phones are bad and not to use them, but you do have to spare some time to spend with your family and not get stuck with your phone all day. 关注:pay attention to/focus on sth./be concerned about ②. 交流:communicate with sb./chat with sb./exchange ideas with ③. 改变:change one's mind/have a different opinion towards 情绪类 ①. 抱怨:complain/say sth. angrily/make a complaint ②. 抱歉:feel sorry/regret/feel apologetic 【点睛】[高分句型1].
