Unit 7 Happy Birthday! — Lesson 1 Section A 1a-1d教学设计

1. Ss can use months and ordinal numbers to ask and express birthdays and dates.

2. Ss can use target sentences like "When is your birthday? It's in... / It's on..." and "How old are you? I'm..." to communicate about birthdays.

3. Ss can catch key information about dates, ages, and birthday plans from the listening dialogues.

Teaching Procedures:

 

Step 1. Lead - in

1). Show the theme picture. Ask Ss: What are the people doing in the picture? Whose birthday is it? How do they celebrate?

2). Ask Ss to share how they usually celebrate their own birthdays to activate their background knowledge and interest.

3). Let Ss look at the months and phonetic symbols to learn the new vocabulary. Play a quick word-flash game for Ss to read the month words aloud.

 

Step 2. Presentation

1). Show a table of cardinal numbers and ask Ss to say the corresponding ordinal numbers for the months. Guide Ss to observe and summarize the rules of changing cardinal numbers into ordinal numbers.

2). Model the target sentences: "When is your birthday? It's in + month." "It's on + specific date." "How old are you? I'm..."

3). Let Ss practice the target sentences in pairs using their own birthdays.

4). Play the recording of 1a for Ss to listen and imitate the pronunciation.

 

Step 3. While - listening

1). 1st listening: Let Ss listen to the three dialogues in 1b and match the characters with their birthdays. Check answers by asking Ss to read the complete sentences.

2). 2nd listening: Let Ss listen again and answer the three questions in 1c to get detailed information.

3). 3rd listening: Let Ss listen and complete the sentences in 1d to consolidate key words and structures.

4). 4th listening: Let Ss imitate the pronunciation and intonation. Guide them to think about how to ask about age and birthdays, and evaluate the characters' actions (e.g., Fu Xing's invitation, Teng Fei's gift choice).
