Unit 7 Happy Birthday! — Lesson 3 Grammar Focus教学设计

 

Objectives:

Language Ability:

1. Ss can correctly use Wh- and How old special questions to ask about birthdays and ages.

2. Ss can fluently use How much special questions to ask about prices and conduct shopping communicative activities.

3. Ss can review and consolidate the target language and sentence patterns learned in the previous two lessons.

4. Ss can observe, discuss, induce, and summarize the rules of special questions to build structured knowledge.

5. Ss can use tables to sort out text information and improve their logical analysis ability.

6. Ss can explore the deeper meaning of birthdays and analyze the writing purpose and text structure of the reading passage.

7. Ss can learn about cultural knowledge related to birthdays in China and abroad, discover traditional or unique ways of celebrating birthdays in different countries, and improve cross-cultural communication skills.

Teaching Procedures:

 

Step 1. Lead - in

1). Create a situation to review prior knowledge. Ask Ss basic personal questions about age, birthday, nationality, and shopping needs.

2). Encourage Ss to answer using the target language to arouse their interest and lead into the grammar topic.

Step 2. Presentation & Practice

1). Present key sentences from previous texts and ask Ss to circle the special question words (Wh-words) and observe the common rules.

2). Guide Ss to discuss and summarize the rules of the target sentence patterns (asking for personal information and shopping expressions) in a structured way.

3). Ask Ss to complete Activity 3b: fill in the blanks with appropriate special question words and match the questions with the correct answers.

4). Guide Ss to read the target sentences in 3b again to explore their communicative functions, concluding that they also express birthday celebration activities.

 

Step 3. Reading & Cultural Awareness

1). Ask Ss to think about the special ways and contents of celebrating birthdays in China, and express their ideas in English to enhance cross-cultural awareness.

2). First reading (3c): Let Ss read the passage to learn about special birthdays in the world and answer two questions (What is the main idea? What is the purpose of the first two sentences?).

3). Second reading: Let Ss read carefully again and complete the corresponding table to sort out the information.

4). Third reading: Let Ss read again and answer follow-up questions.
