B
Last summer, I volunteered at a small woodworking studio in the old part of our city. It was there that I met Mr. Chen, a 58-year-old master craftsman whose hands told stories of decades working with wood. While his workshop was filled with traditional tools, what he created was anything but conventional wooden furniture that perfectly blended classic craftsmanship with contemporary design. What struck me most was Mr. Chen’s unique perspective on what he called “new-era craftsmanship”. Though he learned woodworking from his father as a teenager, he never confined himself to old methods. Recognizing the changing preferences of younger customers, he spent evenings teaching himself 3D modeling software and weekends researching sustainable materials like bamboo composites and water-based finishes.
I witnessed his innovative approach firsthand when a young couple asked for a custom bookshelf for their small apartment. They needed something space-efficient, eco-friendly, and easy to tear apart for potential moves. Mr. Chen embraced the challenge enthusiastically.
Over the next week, he created multiple digital prototypes, experimented with three different types of wood, and reinvented traditional techniques to create interlocking joints that required no metal fasteners. I often found him working late, his experienced hands carefully testing each component. When I asked why he invested such extraordinary effort into what seemed like a simple project, he paused from his work and smiled. “True craftsmanship isn’t about blindly repeating what our ancestors did,” he explained. “It’s about understanding the essence of tradition while having the courage to adapt it for today’s world.” To illustrate his point, he showed me two bookshelves — one he made twenty years ago, beautiful in its solid construction, and the new prototype, which used thirty percent less material while being equally steady and more functional for modern living.
Through Mr. Chen’s example, I came to understand that new-era craftsmanship represents the perfect marriage of dedication and innovation. It honors the past while embracing the future, proving that excellence comes not from doing one thing forever, but from doing it well with an ever-evolving spirit.
24. Why are traditional tools mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A. To stress Mr. Chen’s source of inspiration.
B. To highlight the wisdom of past generations.
C. To promote the spirit of traditional craftsmanship.
D. To contrast with Mr. Chen’s modern and creative ideas.
25. Why does the author list specific requests from the young couple?
A. To reveal the great skills of today’s craftsmen.
B. To display the shift of traditional craftsmanship.
C. To imply the need for craftsmen to go with the times.
D. To distinguish modern approaches from traditional ones.
26. What does “true craftsmanship” mean in Mr. Chen’s viewpoint?
A. Creating resource-efficient products. B. Persisting through testing and effort.
C. Adapting traditional wisdom for modern use. D. Combining digital and traditional techniques.
27. What does Mr. Chen’s story show?
A. The best of both worlds. B. Two sides of a coin.
C. The value of old methods. D. The limit of newness.
D 25. C 26. C 27. A

C
Most of us assume that warmth is what leads to generosity, rather than the other way around. It’s an intuitive order of events: we like people first and then choose to help them. However, according to research from the Fudan Journal of the Humanities and Social Sciences, the opposite can also be just as true. Interestingly, this is what’s known as the “Ben Franklin effect”. After doing someone a favor, you begin to like them more, despite having felt neutral or indifferent about them beforehand.
In terms of the Ben Franklin effect, this means that if you help someone, your brain is likely to try and reason: “Well, I wouldn’t go out of my way for someone I dislike, so I must like them.” Psychologists identified that the cognitive (认知的) mechanism underlying this intuitive social shift was, in fact, cognitive dissonance (失调). In simple terms, cognitive dissonance occurs when our behaviors are inconsistent with our beliefs. In turn, our minds unconsciously adjust our attitudes to reduce the discomfort this inconsistency brings on.
The concept gained significant scientific recognition after renowned researchers Jon Jecker and David Landy’s classic 1969 experiment, published in the journal Human Relations. Specifically, participants within the study who had done a favor for the experimenter rated the experimenter as much more likable than those who had received a favor or had no interaction at all.
With this study, Jecker and Landy were able to provide proof for the effect. This strongly suggests that the things that we do are more likely to shape our beliefs than the inverse (相反). In other words, when we act generously, we unconsciously convince ourselves that we must care for the recipient in some way or another.
The Ben Franklin effect suggests that our actions can build connections far more reliably than just our emotions alone. This has profound meanings for romantic relationships, friendships, family dynamics and even healing old wounds. Offering a small favor to someone you feel slightly distant from can be a gentle yet effective way to reopen the connection. However, the inverse is also true: if you never put in effort, your pride will only create emotional distance.
28. Which of the following agrees with the Ben Franklin effect?
A. Warm relations lead to generosity. B. Generous behavior wins popularity.
C. Good deeds deserve greater rewards. D. Acts of kindness establish closer ties.
29. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?
A. The motive for helping the people we dislike. B. The underlying logic of reducing discomfort.
C. The psychological process behind the effect. D. The method of managing cognitive dissonance.
30. Jecker and Landy’s experiment seems to tell us that ________.
A. experimenters rate helpful participants higher B. emotions heal scars more effectively than actions
C. behavior is a contributor to the formation of ideas D. people prefer to care for the recipient before donation
31. What does the author stress in the last paragraph?
A. Potential implications of the effect. B. Supporting evidence for the effect.
C. The further interpretation of the effect. D. The negativity of the inverse of the effect.
D 29. C 30. C 31. A
根据第一段中“After doing someone a favor, you begin to like them more, despite having felt neutral or indifferent about them beforehand.(帮别人一个忙之后,你会开始更喜欢他们,尽管在此之前你对他们感觉平淡或漠不关心)”可知,本·富兰克林效应强调帮助行为能拉近人际距离。
根据第二段中“Psychologists identified that the cognitive ( 认知的) mechanism underlying this intuitive social shift was, in fact, cognitive dissonance (失调). In simple terms, cognitive dissonance occurs when our behaviors are inconsistent with our beliefs. In turn, our minds unconsciously adjust our attitudes to reduce the discomfort this inconsistency brings on.(心理学家指出,这种直觉性社会转变背后的认知机制,实际上就是认知失调。简单来说,当我们的行为与信念不一致时,就会产生认知失调。反过来,我们的大脑会无意识地调整我们的态度,以减轻这种不一致所带来的不适感)”可知,本段主要阐释了该效应背后的心理运作过程。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“This strongly suggests that the things that we do are more likely to shape our beliefs than the inverse.(这有力地表明,我们所做的事比相反的情况更有可能塑造我们的信念)”可知,实验证明了行为对观念形成的推动作用。
根据最后一段中“The Ben Franklin effect suggests that our actions can build connections far more reliably than just our emotions alone. This has profound meanings for romantic relationships, friendships, family dynamics and even healing old wounds.(本·富兰克林效应表明,我们的行动比单纯的感情更能可靠地建立联系。这对恋爱关系、友谊、家庭动态甚至愈合旧伤都具有深远意义)”可知,作者在此强调了该效应的广泛应用价值。
D
Right now, I’m glued to my phone. Like most people, I get my news from various apps — social posts, podcasts, newsletters — and when things are blowing up, I can’t look away. The strangest part, though, is that the more I watch and read what other people are saying, the lonelier I feel.
This is hardly a new or unique experience. Sociologists have been talking about it for nearly 80 years. In 1950, David Riesman published a book called The Lonely Crowd, in which he argued that the rise of consumerism and mass media had led to a new kind of personality type that is deeply sensitive to loneliness. He called this personality “other-directed”. Other-directed people are constantly attuned to what everyone around them is doing, using the preferences of their peer groups to decide what to buy, wear and think. Riesman warned that other-directed people are obsessed with conforming, anxious to be “part of a crowd”. What they fear more than anything is being alone.
There’s a paradox in every other-directed person’s heart. As much as they may want to conform, to be part of the group chat, they also want to feel like they are unique. Riesman explained that consumerism itself relieves this other-directed anxiety by offering “false personalisation”.
This kind of false personalisation shows up all the time in the algorithms (算法) that shape our experiences online. Many apps have a “for you” feed full of videos that feel tailor-made for our specific tastes. And yet it is shaped by an algorithm that we don’t control, whose purpose is largely to keep our eyeballs glued to the same app that everyone else is glued to. It is “for you” in the service of conformity.
As other-directed people, we are invited to express ourselves mainly by participating in peer groups or by “joining the conversation”. And yet we still feel lonely. That’s because when we piece ourselves together out of what we think other people want, we hide from something crucial: our own truly personal, messy, non-conformist desires.
Riesman suggested two solutions to this other-directed problem. First, we need to take back our leisure hours from the hyper-consumerist world of media. All that effort we put into paying attention to our peers is too much like work, and we need more free play! Second, we should test out new identities and experiences. Figure out what we enjoy when nobody is telling us what “fun” is supposed to be. Do something we have never done before. Surprise ourselves. And see how it feels to just...experiment.
You won’t figure out who you are from a “for you” feed or a chatbot. So get off your phone, do something unexpected and be yourself for a while.
32. What does the word “attuned” underlined in Paragraph 2 most probably mean?
A. Opposed. B. Sympathetic. C. Attentive. D. Critical.
33. What can be inferred about other-directed people from the passage?
A. They feel greatly terrified of being left out.
B. They usually give up their individuality to conform.
C. Their loneliness can be relieved by chatting with others.
D. Their false personalisation pushes them to think for themselves.
34. According to David Riesman, we should ________.
A. recognise consumerism in the world of media B. focus on building a consistent self-identity
C. achieve a balance between work and play D. explore to find out what we truly enjoy
35. Which would be the best title for the passage?
A. A Cure for Loneliness B. Alone in the Digital Crowd
C. Face Our True Selves Bravely D. How Other-Directedness Works
C 33. A 34. D 35. B
根据第二段“Other-directed people are constantly attuned to what everyone around them is doing, using the preferences of their peer groups to decide what to buy, wear and think.(他人导向型人格的人时刻attuned身边所有人的动向,依靠同辈群体的喜好来决定自己的消费、穿搭与想法。)”
根据第二段“Riesman warned that other-directed people are obsessed with conforming, anxious to be “part of a crowd”. What they fear more than anything is being alone.(理斯曼警示,他人导向型人格的人执着于迎合群体,迫切想要融入人群。他们最害怕的就是独自一人。)”可推断,这类人极度害怕被排挤、被落下。
【34题详解】
细节理解题。根据第六段“Second, we should test out new identities and experiences. Figure out what we enjoy when nobody is telling us what “fun” is supposed to be. Do something we have never done before.(第二,我们应当尝试全新的身份与体验。在没人告诉我们何为“有趣”时,弄清楚自己喜欢什么。去做之前从未做过的事。)”可知,大卫·理斯曼认为我们应当主动探索,找到自己真正热爱的事物。
【35题详解】
主旨大意题。第一段“Right now, I’m glued to my phone. Like most people, I get my news from various apps — social posts, podcasts, newsletters — and when things are blowing up, I can’t look away. The strangest part, though, is that the more I watch and read what other people are saying, the lonelier I feel.(此刻我总离不开手机。 所以B项“Alone in the Digital Crowd(数字人海中的孤独者)”符合文意。

“No pain, no gain” is a widely popular saying in fitness. Many people believe that intense workouts and physical pain are necessary to get stronger and fitter. They tend to push their bodies to the limit through heavy weightlifting or endless repetitive movements to achieve ideal fitness results. ____36____.
The research suggests that people can improve their physical strength and health without exhausting and painful training. The key lies in “eccentric (离心的) exercises”. ____37____. There are many common eccentric exercises in daily life. They include slowly bending and straightening the knees, walking downstairs, or gently lowering a heavy object.
Though these movements feel much easier than intense training, they are surprisingly effective. Studies show that muscles can produce greater force during eccentric exercises. ____38____. This allows people to build steady strength without feeling overly tired.
It is normal to have mild muscle soreness if you are new to such exercises, but serious pain is never a must for fitness progress. Besides, eccentric exercises bring more practical benefits. ____39____. Simple home moves like chair squats (深蹲) and wall push-ups work perfectly. Even a few minutes of daily practice can lead to obvious health improvements over time.
____40____. Easy and manageable workouts are far more sustainable. People are more willing to stick with simple exercises long-term. In fact, consistent daily training, rather than occasional painful workouts, is the real secret to long-term physical health and fitness improvement. Therefore, forget the old saying and start with small, easy steps.
A. Fitness does not depend on intensity or pain
B. They require no gym space or professional equipment

上文“Many people believe that intense workouts and physical pain are necessary to get stronger and fitter. They tend to push their bodies to the limit through heavy weightlifting or endless repetitive movements to achieve ideal fitness results.(许多人认为高强度的锻炼和身体疼痛是变得更强壮、更健康所必需的。他们通常通过大重量举重或无休止的重复动作,将身体推向极限,以达到理想的健身效果。)”阐述了传统观念中关于健身必须伴随痛苦和极限挑战的看法;G选项“However, new research from Edith Cowan University challenges this traditional belief(然而,埃迪斯科文大学的一项新研究对这一传统观念提出了挑战)”中的“However”表示转折,且“challenges this traditional belief”正好承接上文提到的传统观念,引出下文关于离心运动的新发现。
【37题详解】
上文“The key lies in ‘eccentric (离心的) exercises’.(关键在于‘离心运动’。)”引出了本文的核心概念——离心运动;E选项“They focus on slow and controlled movements that stretch muscles while they work(它们侧重于缓慢而有控制的运动,在肌肉工作时将其拉伸)”中的代词“They”指代上文的“eccentric exercises”,并且具体解释了离心运动的动作特点,与上文衔接紧密。
上文“Studies show that muscles can produce greater force during eccentric exercises.(研究表明,肌肉在离心运动期间可以产生更大的力量。)”指出了离心运动在力量产生方面的优势;F选项“Meanwhile, these exercises consume less energy than traditional demanding workouts(同时,与传统的艰苦锻炼相比,这些运动消耗的能量更少)”对上文表示并列补充,进一步说明了离心运动在能量消耗上的优势,这也为下文的“This allows people to build steady strength without feeling overly tired.(这使得人们能够在不感到过度疲劳的情况下建立稳定的力量。)”
是一个过渡句,提示下文将列举离心运动的具体实际好处;B选项“They require no gym space or professional equipment(它们不需要健身房空间或专业设备)”具体说明了离心运动在场地和器材上的便利性,正是上文提到的“practical benefits”之一,且与下文“Simple home moves like chair squats and wall push-ups work perfectly.(像椅子深蹲和靠墙俯卧撑这样简单的家庭动作就非常完美。)”
下文“Easy and manageable workouts are far more sustainable. People are more willing to stick with simple exercises long-term.(轻松易操作的锻炼更具可持续性。人们更愿意长期坚持简单的锻炼)”以及“Therefore, forget the old saying and start with small, easy steps.(因此,忘掉那句老话,从小而简单的步骤开始吧。)”

The final exam bell rang as I sat in my usual seat. Sunlight streamed through the windows, lighting up Lily’s pencil box. The words “Honor First, Victory (胜利) Follows” shone like gold. These words had always been our belief. We’d been study partners since high school started, sharing sandwiches and celebrating tests under the old oak tree in the courtyard.
I was busy with my exam when her strawberry-shaped eraser, a gift from me last birthday, which once saw our late-night study, rolled near my math paper. Just one seat away, Lily took a deep breath. Her eyes darted (来回扫视) between the teacher and a folded paper in her grey sweater sleeve. It seemed that the words on the note she prepared beforehand had become unclear. So, Lily tapped my knee with her foot—our silent signal from soccer practices, then pushed another paper with several words toward me. Its edge caught the light, sharp and bright.
Raising my head, I saw Teacher Rivera pacing between desks, her glasses sliding down her nose. Out of nervousness, I felt my mouth dry. My pencil slipped from my sweaty fingers, dropping to the floor. The clock ticked loudly. Twenty minutes left, each second heavier.
The room was silent except for the clock. Telling on (告发) Lily meant losing three years of memories: movie nights, soccer games, and the snowy morning she brought me homework. Staying silent would break our promise of honesty. A fly buzzed against the window, like my thoughts.
I remembered a soccer game in the rain. Lily fell in the mud. “Honor first!” she said, refusing my help as she got up with bleeding elbows. Now her shoe pushed the paper closer. Her eyes begged through her hair.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
With fifteen minutes left, I knew I had to make a choice.

With fifteen minutes left, I knew I had to make a choice. I took a deep breath and gently pushed the paper back toward Lily. Her eyes widened in surprise. I gave her a smile and pointed to the words on her pencil box: ”Honor First, Victory Follows.” Lily’s face flushed. She nodded, stepped on the paper and paid no attention to it anymore. Together, we focused on the remaining questions, using our brains instead of notes. The last few minutes were tense, but we felt a new sense of teamwork. When the bell finally rang, we handed in our papers, looking at each other with relief.
After the exam, Lily and I sat in silence under the old oak tree. The sunlight streamed through the leaves, casting shadows on our faces. After what seemed a century, I broke the silence and explained, “We promised to be honest, so...” Lily nodded, tears in her eyes. “I know. I was just so scared of failing.” We hugged tightly, knowing our bond was stronger than any test score. The oak tree’s leaves rustled above us, as if cheering us on. From then on, we studied even harder, facing challenges together with honesty and courage.

I can assure you that most AI written school work is easy to spot. No, i'm worried about what it's doing to their brains. How can they really understand the world if they can't . tell what's real? Your right? My colleagues and I have talked about this too. The other day, anna was crying over an AI video that that her favorite band had broken up. Only IT wasn't true. Oh yes, many of my students also fell for that one. High tech parenting is no joke. Mom and dad never had these kinds of worries when we were growing up.

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
With fifteen minutes left, I knew I had to make a choice.
