A
Part of growing up is learning how to work things out by yourself. However, it’s important to remember that asking for help when you need it is also an important part of personal growth and development.
There are a lot of situations in which you might find yourself needing help, such as doing schoolwork, learning a new skill or dealing with difficult feelings like sadness or anger. Feeling frustrated because you’re finding something difficult or it’s taking a long time to make progress can also make you feel like you can’t do it. These are all signs that you need help.
However, asking for help isn’t always easy. It can be tricky if you’re not sure who to ask. You might think they won’t want to help or they haven’t got the time. If you’re embarrassed that you need help, or if you think asking for a helping hand is a sign of weakness, it makes it harder to turn to another person.
In fact, everyone finds things hard sometimes. Angela McMillan, a counsellor (顾问) who advises young people, says, “Letting someone in and asking them to help you come up with ideas of how to deal with a problem takes great courage. But when you ask for help, it takes the stress off trying to work out everything by yourself.” And there are other advantages too. By asking for help, you practise speaking up for yourself and saying what you need.
Noah, a teenager, shared how he asked his sister for help with a writing assignment (作业) and ended up producing one of his best pieces of work. “It’s one of my best pieces of work, so I am really pleased that I asked for help!” says Noah.
Remember, asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a courageous step towards personal growth and achieving your goals. So dear friends, be brave to ask for help when you need it.
11. What does the underlined word “frustrated” mean in Paragraph 2?
A. mad. B. bored. C. discouraged. D. embarrassed.
12. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?
A. When you might need help. B. Who you should ask for help.
C. Why asking for help is helpful. D. What stops you from asking for help.
13. What can we learn from Angela McMillan’s words?
A. There are no problems, only solutions.
B. A problem shared makes it less heavy.
C. All things are possible to those who believe.
D. Helping others is the way we help ourselves.
14. What might Noah think after asking his sister for help with his writing assignment?
A. “I won’t do it again!” B. “I did the right thing.”
C. “I believe my sister needs help too.” D. “The writing assignment is so difficult.”
15. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. B. All of us can give others a hand.
C. Brave people seldom ask for help. D. Be careful when you ask for help.
B
A few years ago, I walked into a cafe and ordered my food. After I sat down, I noticed that at the table next to me, there was an older man eating his soup alone. The chair across from him was empty; he wasn’t saving the seat. He was truly eating all alone. At that moment, a feeling of sadness began to wash over me. Why was he eating alone? Was he lonely? Did he want someone to keep him company? This wasn’t the first time I’d felt sad seeing someone eat alone. I don’t like being alone, so whenever I notice others eat alone, I can’t help thinking they’re lonely and need someone to be there for them.
For some reason, eating with other people is a normal thing. Modern society has developed to the point where most people eat with others and do almost every activity together. If we need to get lunch, we’d rather ask around to see if someone will come with us. But is it possible we just don’t want to appear lonely?
I used to feel pressured to be around others whenever I saw everyone else around me with friends. So many people are always around someone else, and that may make people think we always need someone with us to feel better about ourselves. But that’s not true. We can enjoy being alone-not everyone needs to be always with friends to be happy. And we shouldn’t be afraid to eat alone if that’s what we want to do.
Seeing someone doing something alone doesn’t always mean they are lonely. Maybe they just want a break from the world, or maybe they prefer it that way.
16. Why does the author mention her experience at the cafe?
A. To discuss the benefits of eating alone outside.
B. To introduce her thoughts about eating alone.
C. To describe a memorable dinner with a friend.
D. To call for more care for people who feel lonely.
17. According to Paragraph 2, what does the author think of eating with other people?
A. It helps build good social connections. B. It is not right and should not be done.
C. It is common but is worth questioning. D. It is a good way to avoid embarrassment.
18. What might be the author’s thought when she saw others with friends in the past?
A. “I don’t care what others are doing.”
B. “Being with my friends is stressful.”
C. “I’m totally comfortable to be on my own.”
D. “Maybe I should find someone to be with.”
19. How does the author’s attitude towards eating alone change?
A. From uncaring to curious. B. From sad to accepting.
C. From angry to satisfied. D. From afraid to excited.
20. Which of the following best describes the last paragraph?
A. The author gives advice on how to eat alone.
B. The author shares a different way of thinking.
C. The author tells another story about eating alone.
D. The author asks more questions about loneliness.
C
Monkeys often help each other to raise their young babies. A new study has found that snub-nosed monkeys (金丝猴) actually choose babysitters based on who has the most parenting experience.
This discovery was made by accident by a team of researchers at the Southwest Forestry University in China. While studying black-and-white snub-nosed monkeys during the baby season in Baimaxueshan National Nature Reserve (自然保护区), they noticed that the monkeys often passed around their newborns. They took turns to clean, carry, or even feed them.
This behaviour reminded the researchers of how humans babysit for each other, so they decided to watch the monkeys more closely. They followed the group every day for six months. There were more than 400 moments where a female monkey spent time with a mother and newborn. These moments involved cleaning the baby or gently pulling them closer.
Once the babies had grown up a bit, the mothers were more willing to let other females take care of them. They usually picked babysitters who had more experience with young monkeys. Younger females with less experience would still be allowed to look after the infants, but usually after a more experienced monkey had finished helping.
Chun-Yan Cui, one of the researchers, told New Scientist magazine that this was a good chance for the younger females to learn how to take care of babies, so they would be ready to care for their own babies in the future. She also said that more research needs to be done to find out if mothers choose babysitters based on the social status of monkeys or family relationships.
21. What did the new study mainly discover about snub-nosed monkeys?
A. They usually feed their babies alone.
B. They choose babysitters with more experience.
C. They take care of babies in human-like ways.
D. They choose babysitters based on age.
22. How did the researchers learn about the babysitting behavior of the monkeys?
A. Through a planned experiment in the lab.
B. By training monkeys to care for babies.
C. By chance during another field study.
D. From notes in an old research report.
23. Which of the following images best matches what the researchers saw during the baby season?
A. B. C. D.
24. What can be inferred about the role of younger female monkeys in the babysitting process?
A. They help after experienced females and use the chance to learn.
B. They only help when the mother monkey is not around.
C. They are not allowed to help because they might harm the babies.
D. They usually lead the babysitting while older monkeys rest.
25. What is the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To introduce the background of the research team.
B. To explain the parenting habits of male monkeys.
C. To point out areas for future research and learning.
D. To compare monkeys with other animals.

While“当……时”、Before“在……之前”、Since“自从”均不能体现动作的紧接性。
【9题详解】
句意:他让他自己保留这枚戒指。
国王奖赏他,让他“保留”戒指,keep“保留”符合。buy“买”、show“展示”、give“给”均与国王的奖赏动作不符。
【10题详解】
句意:国王说:“你在这件小事上做得如此出色,所以现在我知道很多事情我都可以信任你。”
此处为so...that... what、why、when均不能用于此结构。

Noah, a teenager, shared how he asked his sister for help with a writing assignment (作业) and ended up producing one of his best pieces of work. “It’s one of my best pieces of work, so I am really pleased that I asked for help!” says Noah.

第二段提到求助的情境包括学业、学习新技能或处理情绪,接着提到“Feeling frustrated because you’re finding something difficult or it’s taking a long time to make progress can also make you feel like you can’t do it.”,当遇到困难或进展缓慢时,人会感到受挫、气馁,从而觉得自己做不到。
第四段中Angela McMillan说:“But when you ask for help, it takes the stress off trying to work out everything by yourself.”,意思是求助可以减轻独自解决所有问题的压力,这与“A problem shared makes it less heavy.(分担问题能减轻负担)”的意思最相符。
第五段提到Noah向姐姐求助后完成了最好的一篇作品,并说:“It’s one of my best pieces of work, so I am really pleased that I asked for help!”,说明他非常高兴自己求助了,因此他可能认为“I did the right thing.(我做了正确的决定)”。
文章最后一段总结道:“Remember, asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but rather a courageous step... So dear friends, be brave to ask for help when you need it.”,说明文章的核心主旨是鼓励人们“不要害怕求助”。

A. They usually feed their babies alone.
B. They choose babysitters with more experience.
