What do you usually do on a vacation? Do you know glamping? It is a new way of camping among young Chinese.
Traditional camping often lets people sleep in simple tents, but glamping makes comfortable beds and chairs, bathrooms, kitchens and other things available (可获得的) to people.
27-year-old Yoga Song is a glamping lover. In April, 2021, Song took her first glamping trip in Zhongwei, Ningxia. Zhongwei has many attractions (景区), such as the Yellow River, parts of the Great Wall and old villages. Many good hotels are available in the city. But when Song got there, she decided to try something different—glamping.
Song’s special glamping tent was just 10 meters away from the Yellow River. Cows and sheep came by her tent from time to time. At night, Song could look up at the sky, and it was filled with stars. Everything was quiet and beautiful. And inside the tent, Song could sleep well. She enjoyed the trip very much.
After the trip to Zhongwei, Song started to take more glamping trips in China. “Some of my friends can just go camping in the mountains with only a backpack,” Song said.
“That is too hard for me. I want to get close to nature, but I can’t give up the comfort of life.”
For many young people, glamping is just the right activity for vacations. They can enjoy the fresh air and beautiful nature with basic sanitary (卫生的) conditions and comfortable living conditions. Maybe that’s why glamping has become so popular.
9.What is glamping like according to Paragraph 2?
A.Closer to the stars. B.Safer than traditional camping.
C.Cheaper than traditional camping. D.More comfortable than traditional camping.
10.The underlined “it” refers to (指的是) ________.

A.It was wonderful. B.She fed cows and sheep.
C.She didn’t sleep well in the tent. D.Her tent was close to the Great Wall.
12.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.The Beautiful Nature B.A Modern Activity for Vacations
C.The Trip to Zhongwei D.Comfortable Living Conditions
D
If you don’t like winter, hibernating (冬眠) animals seem to have a great idea. But is hibernation the same as sleeping?
In fact, hibernating animals don’t “sleep” during the winter. Hibernation is very different from sleeping. During hibernation, metabolism (新陈代谢 ) slows down greatly. When lemurs (狐猴) hibernate, they slow their heart rates (心率) . An active lemur’s heart beats about 200 times a minute. During hibernation, it beats less than eight times a minute. Its breathing slows down too. Hibernating lemurs can go ten minutes without taking a breath. Their brain activity becomes very slow. During sleep, however, animals continue to breathe as usual.
According to scientists, hibernation is a way for animals to save energy. However, animals that live in cold areas are not the only ones to hibernate. Some animals hibernate to keep away from hot weather. Some animals hibernate when there is no food. For example, echidnas (针鼹 ) hibernate after fires. They don’t go back to usual activities until food grows back. Some animals hibernate to stay safe. Animals don’t smell or move much when they hibernate. This makes it hard for other animals to find them and eat them.
There are many mammals (哺乳动物 ) that hibernate. Most of them are small—weigh less than 90g. It is hard for them to stay warm in winter, so they need to save more energy than larger animals.
We humans don’t need hibernation. So, don’t be lazy and lie in bed all day long during the coming winter holiday!
13.What do animals do during hibernation?
A.They stop breathing. B.They become much thinner.
C.They slow their brain activity. D.They breathe more than 8 times a minute.
14.Why do echidnas hibernate after fires?
A.To keep away from hot weather. B.To wait for food to grow back.
C.To stay safe from other animals. D.To live in cold environments.
15.What do most of the hibernating mammals look like?
A.They are lazy. B.They are shy. C.They are tall. D.They are small.
16.What’s the writer’s purpose of writing this text?
A.To tell people more about hibernation.
B.To tell why humans don’t need hibernation.
C.To tell young people how to save energy in winter.
D.To list the differences between hibernation and sleeping.

The Bowerbird: Nature’s Best Decorator
Did you know there’s a bird that makes its home look like a colorful artwork? Say hello to the bowerbird (园丁鸟)! These amazing birds live in Australia and New Guinea (新几内亚). 17 But they don’t just build - they decorate!
These birds love shiny and bright things. They might pick flowers, soft feathers, juicy berries, or even stuff they find from people, like bottle caps or coins (硬币). 18
19 Some love blue things, others prefer green and white. They place each decoration carefully, almost like artists. Sometimes they even steal decorations from neighbors!
Why do they work so hard? 20 The males with the coolest, neatest decorations get noticed!
Who knew birds could be home decorators? The bowerbird shows us that nature is full of surprises — and a little creativity can go a long way!
A.Each type of bowerbird likes different colors.
B.It’s like they’re decorating with nature’s treasures!
C.Male bowerbirds build “bowers” — a fancy word for nests made from sticks and small branches to impress lady birds!
D.Because lady bowerbirds check out all the nests and choose the most awesome one.
E.Scientists think this behavior shows how animals evolve (演化) to survive and attract mates.

Do you have a dog? Do you need to go out to work or study every day? If you’ve ever felt sorry for 21 your dog home alone, here’s some good news— doing one simple thing before you go may help it a lot!
We already know that touch can lower stress in pets. But a recent study took it a step 22 —scientists tested whether gentle petting (温柔的抚摸) before a short separation (分离) could make dogs feel much better 23 their owners are not around.
In the study, ten dogs took part in two situations: once they were petted for a minute before their owners left, and once they were not. Researchers 24 their behaviours, stress levels, and even their salivary cortisol, a stress hormone (荷尔蒙), to see how they dealt with the separation. The result showed that dogs who received petting performed more calmly (平静地) while waiting for their owners. Their heart rates (心率) dropped much more after the test, showing they were more 25 .
The good points of petting don’t stop with dogs—it helps 26 too! Studies have shown that petting pets can lower 27 , and improve the levels of oxytocin, the “feel-good” hormone. It can also help the owners feel less nervous and closer 28 their dogs before stepping out of the door.
So next time you pick up your 29 to the door, don’t forget to pet your dog for even a short time—it’s a 30 act for you but can mean the world to them!

The world’s longest rivers and highest mountains (U2语法板块语境)
Nature is full of amazing numbers. The Nile River in Africa is about 6,671 kilometres long—in words, six thousand six hundred 31 seventy-one. It runs through eleven 32 (Africa) countries on its way to the sea, and it is the longest river in the world. The Amazon in South America comes second. The Yangtze in China, famous for its 33 (long) of about 6,300 kilometres, is the 34 (three) longest. Mountains tell number stories too. Mount Qomolangma, on the border between China and Nepal, is the 35 (high) mountain on Earth: eight thousand eight 36 and forty-eight point eight six metres. K2, 37 38 (two) highest mountain in the world, is only about 233 metres lower. Numbers like these follow the rules of cardinal numbers: never add-s to hundred or thousand, and always use “and” in the right place. With these simple rules, we can describe our 39 (wonder) world—from the deepest ocean to the highest mountain. It is 40 (amaze) how much nature can teach us about numbers.

Leisa Elliott has the world’s ugliest lawn (草坪), but she’s happy about it.
Elliott doesn’t take care of her lawn. “Mother Nature does the watering here,” she said. This year her lawn won the World’s Ugliest Lawn competition (比赛), a year after the win in the competition “Gotland’s Ugliest Lawn”.
As the world gets warmer, Gotland is very short of water, and water shortage is a growing problem around the world. According to UNESCO, this problem could affect as many as 2.4 billion (十亿) people by 2050. The World’s Ugliest Lawn competition began in 2023 in Gotland, Sweden. The organizers created the competition as a fun way to encourage people to save water.
“Her lawn may not win beauty competitions, but it wins hearts because it teaches us to care for nature,” the organizers said of Elliott’s lawn.
Elliott’s town doesn’t get much rain, but when it rains, her lawn looks very different. A lot of birds and other animals come and visit her lawn. Elliott loves to watch them drinking, playing and cleaning themselves in the pond (池塘).
Mimmi Gibson is one of the organizers of the World’s Ugliest Lawn competition. She felt it was difficult to pick a winner this year. “I mean, they’re all so bad,” she said. She hopes the competition can remind people to change ideas to adapt to (适应) climate change.
“It’s not just a fun thing. It’s actually saving water. I think people like that,” she said.
41.How many times did Elliott’s lawn win first prize?
42.What do birds and other animals do when they visit Elliott’s lawn?
43.Why do the organizers have the World’s Ugliest Lawn competition?
