一、重点词汇

1. horse 马（a little horse 一匹小马；the mother horse 马妈妈）；carry 驮、搬运（carry a bag of wheat 驮一袋麦子）。

2. mill 磨坊（to the mill 去磨坊）；river 河（cross the river 过河）；deep 深的（not deep at all 一点也不深）。

3. safely 安全地（cross the river safely 安全过河）；squirrel 松鼠；drown 淹死（It will drown you! 它会把你淹死的！）。

4. wonder 想知道（wondered if... 想知道是否……）；begin to do sth. 开始做某事（began to cross）。

1. One day, the mother horse asked the little horse to carry a bag of wheat to the mill. 一天，马妈妈让小马驮一袋麦子去磨坊。

　解析：ask sb. to do sth. 让某人做某事。

2. On the way, there was a river. The little horse wondered if he could cross the river safely. 路上有一条河。小马想知道自己能否安全过河。

　解析：on the way 在路上；wonder if... 想知道是否……。

3. He asked the cow. “Excuse me, can I cross the river?” — “Yes, you can. The water is not deep at all.” 他问奶牛：“打扰一下，我能过河吗？”“能，水一点也不深。”

4. A squirrel jumped down from a tree and stopped the little horse. “Don't cross the river, little horse! It's very deep. It will drown you!” 一只松鼠从树上跳下来拦住小马：“别过河，小马！水很深，会把你淹死的！”

　解析：stop sb. 拦住某人；Don't + 动词原形，否定祈使句。

5. Mum, the cow says the river is not deep, but the squirrel says it is very deep. What should I do? 妈妈，奶牛说水不深，可松鼠说水很深。我该怎么办？

　解析：What should I do? 我该怎么办？征求建议的常用句。

6. The little horse didn't know what to do. So he went back and asked his mother. 小马不知道该怎么办，就回去问妈妈。

　解析：what to do 疑问词 + 动词不定式。

三、课文故事梳理（Look, listen and read）

起因：马妈妈让小马驮麦子去磨坊，路上遇到一条河。

经过：问奶牛——水一点也不深；松鼠拦阻——水很深，会淹死它（小马）；小马没了主意，回去问妈妈。

结局：妈妈让他自己试一试；小马小心过河，发现河水既不很浅也不很深。

道理：别人的话要认真听，但更要自己动脑筋、亲自试一试。

四、语法聚焦：一般过去时讲故事

1. 本课动词过去式：ask→asked，is→was，wonder→wondered，can→could，jump→jumped，stop→stopped（双写 p 再加 ed），begin→began，go→went，say→said。

2. 实用句型：ask sb. to do sth. / wonder if... / What should I do? / Don't...!
