(本题10分)Paris Baker is a 30-year-old mother who has two daughters, Kallie, nine, and Harper, five.
One day, the three were playing at home. Harper was playing mom, feeding her mother, then her teddy bear and finally herself. Suddenly, Paris started choking on a piece of cookie. Soon, the cookie was at the back of her throat. The two girls started hitting her back at once. After about a minute of hitting her back, Kallie went to call an ambulance as she started to worry. As she did this the other girl carried on doing what she had been doing and thankfully the cookie finally came up.
Paris was diagnosed (诊断) with motor neurone disease (MND) in 2017, and was told she had five years to live. The condition will gradually paralyse (使……瘫痪) her, leaving her trapped inside her body.
Due to her condition, she’s more likely to fall and has received serious injuries. She felt it was very important to teach her girls what to do in a dangerous situation she might be in. This included applying pressure to a bleeding wound, what to do if someone is choking and how to call emergency services.
The girls know that if their dad isn’t home and an emergency happens there are three steps. Step one is to ring 999, ask for an ambulance and give their address. Step two is to put their dogs in the garden, and step three is to open the front door for the emergency services.
After the accident, Paris was so grateful that she had taught her daughters what to do in such a situation. But accidents like that can happen to anyone. So if your kid hasn’t learned first aid skills yet, it’s time to do that now.
24.(2.5分)How did the two girls react as their mother choked?

(本题10分)When you play video games, what types of games do you play? Do you enjoy creative, imaginative games like Minecraft? Or are sports or racing games more your style?
Another popular kind of video game is the role-playing game (RPG). Although RPGs may combine many elements from other types of games, the key aspect of an RPG is that, as a player, you assume the role of a specific character. Whether you’re in a fantasy, historical or modern-day setting, you interact with the game’s imaginary world as if you were the character you play.
Fascinating as modern role-playing video games are, they all have a very low-technology origin: the pen and paper tabletop (桌面) game Dungeons and Dragons (D&D). Created by Dave Arneson and Gary Gygax in 1974, D&D was the first RPG. Even though it wasn’t electronic, it had all the characteristics that RPGs have become known for: interesting characters, classes, abilities, races, and experience points. D&D players used pencils, paper, books and dice (骰子).
They used their imagination to create attractive storylines (故事情节) and, perhaps most importantly, had a lot of real, face-to-face social interaction with their friends. D&D set the stage for all the RPGs that would follow. Now, high-tech RPGs have become the choice of most young people. However, D&D is still played today by many despite the prevalence of the high-tech video games.
Players of RPGs usually focus on how much fun they have playing the game. However, besides all that fun, they are also learning a variety of skills that will help them in school and their future careers. RPGs require a lot of reading, so they definitely help improve reading skills. Developing imaginative storylines for characters requires a high level of creativity. As players develop their storytelling skills, they also learn how to think critically and solve problems as part of a team. Face-to-face interaction with friends also improves social skills.
28.(2.5分)What do the players need to do in an RPG?
A.Choose a role. B.Design a scene.
C.Make up a story. D.Fight the enemy.
29.(2.5分)What do we know about the first role-playing game?

(本题10分)According to traditional thinking, procrastinators (拖延者) have a time management problem. By this view, with better scheduling, so the logic goes, they will stop procrastinating and get on with their work.
Increasingly, however, psychologists are realizing this is wrong. Experts like Tim Pychyl at Carleton University in Canada and Fuschia Sirois at the University of Sheffield in the UK have proposed that procrastination is an issue with managing our emotions, not our time. The task we’re putting off is making us feel bad — perhaps it’s boring, too difficult or we’re worried about failing — and to make ourselves feel better in the moment, we start doing something else.
On a positive note, if procrastination is an emotional regulation issue, this offers important clues for how to address it most effectively. An approach based on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy or “ACT”, seems especially useful. ACT teaches the benefits of “psychological flexibility” — that is, being able to tolerate uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, staying in the present moment in spite of them, and prioritizing choices and actions that help you get closer to what you most value in life.
Relevant here is new research that’s shown students who procrastinate more tend to score higher on psychological inflexibility. That is, they’re dominated by their psychological reactions, like frustration and worry, at the expense of their life values. Those who procrastinate more also score lower on “committed action”, which describes how much a person persists with actions and behaviours in pursuit of their goals.
The next time you’re tempted to procrastinate, “make your focus as simple as ‘What’s the next action — a simple next step — I would take on this task if I were to get started on it now?’”. Doing this, Tim Pychyl says, takes your mind off your feelings and onto easily achievable action. “Our research and lived experience show very clearly that once we get started, we’re typically able to keep going. Getting started is everything.”
32.(2.5分)What does the underlined word “this” in the first paragraph refer to?
A.Beating procrastinating is very easy.
B.Beating procrastinating is very hard.
C.Procrastination leads to poor time management.

D.Controlling feelings is the key to beating procrastination.
34.(2.5分)What’s the core of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy?

(本题12.5分)First Aid for Choking (窒息): The Heimlich Maneuver
Choking occurs when food or an object blocks the airway. A choking person cannot speak, cough effectively, or breathe, and may grab their throat. Without immediate help, choking can lead to serious harm or death. 36(2.5分)
If you see someone choking, stay calm and call emergency services right away. You should also call for emergency help while checking the person. Ask others nearby to help call for professionals while you check the situation. A choking person often cannot cough strongly, may turn blue, or show signs of struggling. The situations are too dangerous. 37(2.5分) If they can still cough hard or talk, encourage them to continue trying to clear the blockage. But if they cannot cough or breathe well, act fast.
For a conscious adult or older child, the Heimlich maneuver is usually the best method. 38(2.5分) Stand behind the person, wrap your arms around their waist, and make a fist with one hand. Place the thumb side just above the belly button and below the breastbone. Grasp your fist with the other hand and give quick upward and inward thrusts. Repeat until the object is expelled or breathing returns.
Be gentle but firm during the process. 39(2.5分) If the person becomes unconscious, lay them down carefully, call emergency services again if needed, and start CPR if trained.
40(2.5分) Lay the baby face down on your forearm, support the head and neck, and give up to five firm back blows between the shoulder blades (肩胛骨). If necessary, turn the baby over and give up to five chest thrusts (冲击/按压) with two or three fingers. Keep switching until the object is cleared or help arrives.
Learning these skills can save lives. Being prepared makes a huge difference in emergencies.
A.The Heimlich Maneuver doesn’t always work.
B.Therefore, learning first aid for choking is vital.
C.For young teenagers, a different set of steps is required.
D.This helps prevent damage to the ribs (肋骨) or breastbones.
E.So it is important to act quickly and correctly in such situations.
F.However, the above steps are not suitable for babies under one year old.
G.This method uses quick upward and inward pressure to force the object out.

China’s adorable new delivery machines are making deliveries around Shenzhen, and they’re doing so while following proper public transportation manners.

六、书面表达
67.(本题25分)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Anthony, a 16-year-old student at Lancaster High School near Buffalo, loved playing basketball. He was known among his classmates for being funny and friendly. However, when his school added a new task to learn first-aid knowledge, especially CPR (心肺复苏), Anthony didn’t like the idea at all.
The school had organized several first-aid classes as part of the health course. Anthony thought the lessons were a waste of time. He believed such skills were only helpful in very rare situations and that he would never need them. But his good friend David thought differently. David was very interested in the classes and kept telling Anthony how important first-aid skills were. “Anthony, you never know when these skills might be useful,” David said again and again. “It’s better to be prepared than regret it later.” Under David’s encouragement, Anthony decided to give it a try. Although the training was harder than Anthony expected, both he and David did a good job. “You’re really good at this!” David laughed as Anthony correctly placed his hands on the mannequin (人体模型) for CPR practice.
Late on Wednesday night, March 19, Anthony’s CPR skills were suddenly put to the test. His stepfather, Michael, who had a family history of heart disease, suddenly collapsed at the bottom of the stairs. Their barking dogs woke up his mother, Jennifer. She ran to find her husband unconscious and, completely panicked, called for Anthony’s help.
Anthony rushed downstairs and saw his stepfather lying on the floor, not moving. His mother was panicking, unsure of what to do. She cried, “Oh no, what do I do? What do I do?” After she called 911, the operator on the phone told her to start CPR immediately. Jennifer was too scared and overwhelmed to act, but Anthony, who had learned CPR just weeks earlier, quickly stepped in.

A.Colorless. B.Dangerous. C.Enjoyable.
【答案】18.A 19.B 20.C
【原文】M: Right! Next, I’ll tell you something about my childhood. Although we have always lived in the same city, my family and I moved a lot since I was old enough to remember. We don’t have our own house. We have always rented them. For eight years, we lived downtown in a large 10-story building with no less than 30 apartments in it. The conditions were very good. But on the other hand, we had a lot of problems. Imagine how difficult andcolorlesslife was for a nine-year-old boy, full of life, having no place to play freely. No sun, no open air, no football games. School’s from 7:30 to noon and the afternoon’s spent in a room studying, reading, or playing indoor games with a friend or two. No outdoor activities because the streets were too dangerous, and the parents much too afraid to let a young boy go out. How I wished for the weekends to come. I could then burst out with joy and happiness when we went out for a visit to some friends or relatives, a picnic, or even a car ride. I think that’s one of the reasons why I became such a strong nature lover.

A.It’s pretty easy to play. B.Players play it face to face.

A.Importance. B.Convenience.
C.Popularity. D.Improvement.
31.(2.5分)What does the last paragraph mainly focus on?
A.Fun of playing RPGs. B.Tips for playing RPGs.
C.Specific rules of RPGs. D.Benefits of RPGs for players.
【答案】28.A 29.B 30.C 31.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍的是角色扮演游戏RPG。
【详解】28.细节理解题。根据第二段的“Although RPGs may combine many elements from other types of games, the key aspect of an RPG is that, as a player, you assume the role of a specific character.(尽管RPG可能结合了其他类型游戏的许多元素,但RPG的关键在于,作为玩家,你要扮演一个特定的角色)”可知,玩家在RPG游戏中需要选择角色。故选A。
29.细节理解题。根据第四段的“They used their imagination to create attractive storylines (故事情节) and, perhaps most importantly, had a lot of real, face-to-face social interaction with their friends.(他们用自己的想象力创造了吸引人的故事情节,也许最重要的是,他们与朋友进行了大量真实、面对面的社交互动)”可知,在第一款角色扮演游戏中玩家面对面打游戏。故选B。
30.词句猜测题。根据第四段的“Now, high-tech RPGs have become the choice of most young people.(现在,高科技的RPG已经成为大多数年轻人的选择)”和“of the high-tech video games(高科技电子游戏)”可知,划线词所在的句子表示“然而,尽管高科技电子游戏盛行,仍然有许多人玩D&D”,划线词prevalence意为“受欢迎程度”,和popularity意思相近,故选C。
31.主旨大意题。根据最后一段的“RPGs require a lot of reading, so they definitely help improve reading skills. Developing imaginative storylines for characters requires a high level of creativity. As players develop their storytelling skills, they also learn how to think critically and solve problems as part of a team. Face-to-face interaction with friends also improves social skills.(RPG需要大量阅读,所以它们无疑有助于提高阅读技能。为角色发展富有想象力的故事情节需要很高的创造力。随着玩家讲故事技巧的提高,他们也学会了如何批判性地思考和作为团队的一员解决问题。与朋友面对面的交流也能提高社交技能)”可知,最后一段主要讲的是RPG对玩家的好处。故选D。
D.Procrastination results from poor time management.
33.(2.5分)What do Tim Pychyl and Fuschia Sirois believe?
A.We tend to procrastinate when in good mood.
B.A good schedule helps us to stop procrastinating.
C.Procrastination enables us to get a sense of satisfaction.
D.Controlling feelings is the key to beating procrastination.
34.(2.5分)What’s the core of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy?
A.To change our lifestyles. B.To control our thoughts.
C.To conquer negative feelings. D.To ignore potential difficulties.
35.(2.5分)Which of the following can best express Tim Pychyl’s idea in the last paragraph?
A.If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. B.Nothing is impossible to a willing heart.
C.A thousand-mile journey begins with the first step. D.All things are difficult before they are easy.
【答案】32.D 33.D 34.C 35.C
【导语】本文为一篇说明文。讲述了拖延症并非是时间管理问题,而且是情绪管理问题。
【详解】32.词义猜测题。根据文章第一段中“this”前文“According to traditional thinking, procrastinators (拖延者) have a time management problem.(根据传统思想,拖延症存在着时间管理问题。)”可知,this指代前文的所说的“拖延症存在着时间管理问题”,故this指的是“拖延症来源于时间管理”,故选D。
33.推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Experts like Tim Pychyl at Carleton University in Canada and Fuschia Sirois at the University of Sheffield in the UK have proposed that procrastination is an issue with managing our emotions, not our time. (加拿大Carleton大学的Tim Pychyl和英国Sheffield大学的Fuschia Sirois等专家提出,拖延症是一个情绪管理的问题。)”可知,Tim Pychyl和Fuschia Sirois认为拖延症是情绪管理的问题,故管理情绪是打败拖延症的关键,故选D。
34.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“ACT teaches the benefits of ‘psychological flexibility’ — that is, being able to tolerate uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, staying in the present moment in spite of them, and prioritizing choices and actions that help you get closer to what you most value in life.(ACT教授了“心里灵活性的好处”——也就是说,能够容忍不舒服的想法和感受,尽管如此,仍停留在当下,并优先考虑有助于接近生活中最重要的东西选择和行动。)”可知,“接受和承诺疗法”的关键在于能忍受不舒服的想法和感受,并优先考虑有好处的选择和行动,故要克服那些消极情绪,积极采取行动,故选C。
35.推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“Doing this, Tim Pychyl says, takes your mind off your feelings and onto easily achievable action. “Our research and lived experience show very clearly that once we get started, we’re typically able to keep going. Getting started is everything.”(Tim Pychyl说,这样做可以让你把注意力从感觉上移开,转而采取容易实现的行动。‘我们的研究和生活经验非常清楚地表明,一旦我们开始,我们通常能够继续前进。开始就是一切’。)”可知,Tim Pychyl认为,不管什么,都应该开始行动,开始行动就是一切,故C项的 “千里之行始于足下”最能表达他的观点,故选C。
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Anthony started performing CPR on his stepfather.

After spending a week in the hospital, Michael was able to return home.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Anthony started performing CPR on his stepfather. Remembering the lessons from the health class, he carefully kept the right rhythm. For about eight minutes, he pressed on his stepfather’s chest and tried to keep him stable even when his pulse grew weaker. Anthony refused to give up and continued his effort until his stepfather finally started breathing again. Exhausted but relieved, Anthony stepped back as the rescue workers arrived. They immediately rushed Michael to the hospital. Doctors later confirmed that Anthony’s quick actions saved his stepfather’s life and also prevented serious brain damage while waiting for help to come.
After spending a week in the hospital, Michael was able to return home. He was deeply thankful for Anthony’s quick response. “I’m so lucky to have him here,” Michael said, giving Anthony a big hug. Anthony also realized the importance of learning CPR and first-aid skills. He thanked his friend David for encouraging him to learn. “If it weren’t for all this, I don’t think I would have learned CPR, and Michael might not have survived,” Anthony admitted. This whole experience didn’t just save his stepfather’s life, but it also made Anthony truly believe in the value of learning first-aid knowledge. Now, whenever Anthony runs into David, he smiles, “Thanks for making me take those lessons, David. You were right all along.”
