(本题10分)Strange things were happening in the countryside of northeast Hebei. For three days the water in the village wells rose and fell, rose and fell. Farmers noticed that the well walls had deep cracks in them. A smelly gas came out of the cracks. In the farmyards, the chickens and even the pigs were too nervous to eat. Mice ran out of the fields looking for places to hide. Fish jumped out of their bowls and ponds. At about 3:00 am on July 28, 1976, some people saw bright lights in the sky. The sound of planes could be heard outside the city of Tangshan even when no planes were in the sky. In the city, the water pipes in some buildings cracked and burst, but the one million people of the city, who thought little of these events, were asleep as usual that night. At 3:42 am, the 20th century’s greatest earthquake hit, shaking even Beijing 100 km away. A huge 8-kilometre-long, 30-metre-wide crack cut across the city. In just 15 seconds, the city lay in ruins. Two-thirds of people were dead or injured, with the number of victims over 400,000. Thousands of families were lost and many children left parentless. The survivors in Tangshan were shocked to see almost everything destroyed: all hospitals, 75% of factories and buildings, 90% of homes gone, dams and bridges fallen, railway tracks useless, and countless livestock dead. Later that afternoon, another strong quake struck. Rescue workers and doctors were trapped, more buildings collapsed, and water, food and electricity became hard to get, leaving people wondering how long the disaster would last. All hope was not lost. Soon after the quakes, the army sent 150,000 soldiers to Tangshan to help the rescue workers. Hundreds of thousands of people were helped. The army organized teams to dig out those who were trapped and to bury the dead. To the north of the city, most of the 10,000 miners were rescued from the coal mines there. Workers built shelters for survivors whose homes had been destroyed. Fresh water was taken to the city by train, truck and plane. Slowly, the city began to breathe again. 24.(2.5分)What’s the main idea of the text? A.A terrible earthquake of Tangshan. B.Before the earthquake of Tangshan. C.During the earthquake of Tangshan. D.Damages of the earthquake of Tangshan. 25.(2.5分)Which animal was nervous and didn’t want to eat? A.Cows and sheep. B.Mice and fish. C.Chickens and pigs. D.Dogs and cats. 26.(2.5分)Who came to help Tangshan after the earthquake? A.Officer. B.The army. C.Farmers. D.Teachers. 27.(2.5分)What’s the meaning of the underlined sentence “Slowly, the city began to breathe again.”? A.People weren’t sad any more. B.The life in Tangshan began to return to normal. C.The earthquake finally came to an end. D.Those who were trapped were saved. (本题10分)A new study from Tel Aviv University (TAU) has found that the smartphones we all carry in our pockets could help collect weather data from the public to provide early warnings for wildfires and other extreme weather conditions. Professor Colin Price from TAU used data collected from the global public via the WeatherSignal app to develop a methodology for assessing wildfire risk. All smartphones are equipped with multiple micro-sensors capable of collecting important environmental data, such as temperature, humidity (湿度), light, location, and more. These data can warn us when the battery overheats or the device absorbs moisture (水分) — all in real time. Today, millions or even billions of data points are collected worldwide every day by our smartphones. Early warning systems in remote forested areas typically lack data due to the absence of weather stations in remote locations. The public, however, take their smartphones everywhere, with each phone containing micro-sensors that operate continuously in the background. One key factor determining the likelihood of a wildfire is the moisture content in vegetation (植被), which, in turn, is determined by the temperature and relative humidity of the surrounding air. Both of them can be easily obtained from the public’s smartphones. But smartphone data do contain errors. The temperature might be influenced by the air-conditioners, while the humidity sensor might identify moisture when the user is taking a shower. Fortunately, researchers say the huge amount of data collected from smartphones allow us to remove abnormal data, and this procedure turned out to be relatively straightforward. The researchers analyzed two major wildfire events: fires in Israel in November 2016 and the massive fire in Portugal in July 2013. The results were surprising, with smartphone data showing significant abnormal signs before and during these major fires. “Given the rapid increase in the number of smartphones worldwide, we propose making efficient use of this data source to provide better early warnings to the public and disaster managers about natural disasters,” Professor Price concludes. 28.(2.5分)What can the smartphone data be used for according to the study? A.Finding a solution to climate change. B.Identifying where the fire has occurred. C.Supporting early warnings for water crisis. D.Forecasting wildfire and weather disasters. 29.(2.5分)What can be inferred about the smartphone data from paragraph 3? A.It is difficult to be used globally. B.It can be applied to a broader range. C.It is unavailable in remote areas. D.It is more accurate than weather report. 30.(2.5分)Why are there errors in the collected data? A.It is easily affected by the environment. B.The electronic data itself is unstable. C.The technical procedure is too complicated. D.It is influenced by the people around. 31.(2.5分)Why does the author mention “the massive fire in Portugal”? A.To show the frequency of abnormal signs. B.To introduce a severe wildfire. C.To prove the usefulness of smartphone data. D.To explain the cause of the fire. (本题10分)When natural disasters occur — wildfires, floods, earthquakes, tsunamis — every minute counts. Today, advanced technology is reshaping how we predict (预测), monitor, and respond to disasters, saving countless lives and reducing damage worldwide. From artificial intelligence (AI) to drones (无人机) and robotics, technology is helping build a stronger planet. Artificial intelligence processes millions of data points — weather patterns, soil wetness, earthquake activity, historical disaster records — to predict risks more correctly than ever before. Machine learning models predict wildfire paths, hurricane strength, and flood areas days in advance. In Japan, AI systems check early signs of earthquakes and give warnings seconds before shaking arrives, enough time for people to take cover. Google’s Crisis Response uses AI to map damaged areas and direct aid within hours of a disaster. Drones fly into dangerous areas — burning forests, flooded cities, broken buildings — to take clear images, locate survivors, and check damage without risking human lives. Robotic dogs and snake-like robots move through the remains to find trapped people. Underwater drones examine damaged ports and oil rigs after storms. Modern warning systems push real-time warnings to smartphones, radios, and TVs. In the U.S., the Wireless Emergency Alerts (WEA) system sends tsunami, hurricane, and wildfire warnings to every mobile phone in a danger area. In India, the National Disaster Management Authority uses SMS and app warnings to reach remote villages, cutting the warning delays (延误) from hours to minutes. Scientists agree technology cannot stop natural disasters — but it can significantly reduce their impact. “We used to react to disasters; now we predict and prepare,” says Dr. Elena, a climate scientist at the University of California. “Technology gives us the time to act.” As climate change increases disaster frequency, these tools will become even more important for protecting lives and livelihoods worldwide. 32.(2.5分)What can be inferred about AI in Paragraph 2? A.It makes predictions based on big data. B.It provides aid directly to damaged areas. C.It reduces the number of natural disasters. D.It prevents natural disasters from happening. 33.(2.5分)Why are the US and India mentioned in Paragraph 4? A.To stress the importance of mobile phones. B.To compare different disasters in the two countries. C.To introduce advanced technology developed there. D.To prove the effectiveness of modern warning systems. 34.(2.5分)According to Dr. Elena, how can technology protect lives and livelihoods? A.By buying people time to prepare. B.By reacting quickly after disasters. C.By replacing humans in rescue. D.By reducing the disaster frequency. 35.(2.5分)Which is the most suitable title for the text? A.Importance of Early Warning Systems B.Development of Disaster Prevention Measures C.Technology: A Safeguard against Natural Disasters D.Drones and Robotics: A Tool for Locating Survivors (本题12.5分)We’re told to buy environmentally friendly cars and change the old electrical items in our home. Mary swiftly threw herself into her Mum’s arms, burying her face into her chest and trembling with fright. “I think we should leave here right away!” She murmured in a crying tone. Instantly, Dad refused her request again for the fact that the city had already been flooded severely. As he saw through their window, the almost three-meter-high floodwater had already surrounded the apartment building like a wide river, several cars floating on it just like boats. “Black out!” Mary gasped fearfully, the wind roaring and the rain beating on the roof and windows, which made her even more nervous in the whole darkness. Mum took Mary’s hand and carefully led her to sit on the sofa, trying her best to comfort her. While she performed calmly, Mary could tell she was nervous too. “Let’s try to find a light source first and then see what other supplies we have.” Dad made an arrangement. Luckily, there was a flashlight, some packages of instant noodles, bread and some drinking water, which may help them get through the toughness for the half of the night. Without saying a single word, Dad turned on the flashlight, sat down and hugged his wife and daughter. The sudden silence in the house seemed to make the wind and rain more frightening outside. Only the light of the flashlight could now give them some warmth and a sense of little hope. “What about Mrs. Thomson? Old and weak, she must be extremely helpless.” Mum said with great concern when she thought about their nice neighbor who lived alone upstairs of the same building. After a brief discussion, Mum and Dad decided they should go and check whether Mrs. Thomson was fine. Mary, with heavy breath and pounding heart, stood up immediately, ready to bring all their supplies to Mrs. Thomson’s house.注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 In the darkness, they supported each other and went upstairs step by step with the light of the flashlight. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Suddenly, a bunch of searching light from a rescue boat flashed across Mrs. Thomson’s window. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 2 / 2 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高中英语单元测试 —— Unit 5 Humans and Nature 学校:___________姓名:___________班级:___________考号:___________ 一、听力选择题 1.(本题1.5分)When did the fire happen? Hey, what are you doing, Tom? M: I'm reading about Hurricane Dorian. The news said it has moved little since striking the Bahamas Islands on Monday. W: What damages has it caused? M: It has destroyed many homes and forced thousands of people to seek shelter. Officials report at least five people have died. W: It must have been very destructive. M: You're totally right. When it first reached the islands, it was a powerful Category 5 storm. Category 5 storms are the most powerful and damaging of all hurricanes. W: I'm sure people there need help now. M: Yes. U.N. officials said more than 60,000 people on the islands would need food, and the Red Cross said about 62,000 would need clean drinking water. W: Are Dorian's winds still so powerful there? M: Things haven't got much better. By Tuesday, Dorian's winds had slowed, making it a still very dangerous Category 2 hurricane with wind speeds recorded at 177 kilometers an hour. But the center of the hurricane has not moved too far from the Bahamas. W: I guess we can donate some money and call on others in our class to donate to do that. M: Good idea! But it's more important to get our teachers' support. (本题6分)听下面一段独白,回答以下小题。 18.(2分)What threatens this city most? A.Wildfires. B.Storms. C.Floods. 19.(2分)What was the original purpose of the exhibition? A.To get money donations. B.To grow community art programs. C.To teach others about local issues. 20.(2分)What will the speaker do next? A.Invite others to speak. B.Share more local artworks. C.Present information on disasters. 【答案】18.C 19.B 20.A 【原文】 W: Thanks for coming to this art gallery opening. As you can see, all the art here has been painted and created to represent and celebrate local natural beauty. We come from such a beautiful place, so it is very important to realize how at risk it is. I’m not saying this to scare anyone, but to remind us how much we love our planet and how important it is to protect what we love. Here, you’ll see images of hills on fire, powerful typhoons, and rising floods. Within our coastal city, the biggest danger is sea-level rise. Many local artists have painted our streets and train stations underwater to show how real these risks are. Before we open the room to guests, I want to share the origin of this show. The initial idea was not fundraising or even climate messaging. We simply wanted to expand art classes in our community centers. That modest goal grew into this exhibition as students, teachers, and neighbors offered their talent, stories, and support. Because of everyone of you, more workshops will launch next month. To thank you for helping us reach this moment, I’d like to invite several of our lead supporters to say a few words about the student program. 二、阅读理解 (本题7.5分)There are more than 100,000 lakes across the United States. 根据原文第一段“A new study from Tel Aviv University (TAU) has found that the smartphones we all carry in our pockets could help collect weather data from the public to provide early warnings for wildfires and other extreme weather conditions.(特拉维夫大学的一项新研究发现,我们随身携带的智能手机有助于收集公众气象数据,为野火以及其他极端天气灾害提供预警。)”可知,手机数据可以预测野火与气象灾害。 29.推理判断题。根据原文第三段“Today, millions or even billions of data points are collected worldwide every day by our smartphones.(如今,全球范围内每天都会通过手机收集数以百万乃至数十亿条数据信息。)”可知,手机数据能够被大范围运用。 30.细节理解题。根据原文第四段“The temperature might be influenced by the air-conditioners, while the humidity sensor might identify moisture when the user is taking a shower.(温度数值可能会受到空调影响,用户洗澡时湿度传感器也会检测到水汽。)”可知,收集的数据容易受到外界环境干扰,进而产生误差。 31.推理判断题。根据原文第五段“The researchers analyzed two major wildfire events: fires in Israel in November 2016 and the massive fire in Portugal in July 2013. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】    In the darkness, they supported each other and went upstairs step by step with the light of the flashlight. The water had already seeped into the stairwell, making each step slippery and dangerous. Mary clung tightly to her parents’hands, her heart pounding with a mix of fear and determination. When they finally reached Mrs. Thomson’s door, Dad knocked gently but firmly. After what felt like an eternity, the door creaked open, revealing Mrs. Thomson’s frightened face. “Thank goodness you’re here!” she whispered, her voice trembling. They quickly helped her gather her essential belongings and led her back downstairs to their apartment, where they all huddled together, finding comfort in each other's presence.        Suddenly, a bunch of searching light from a rescue boat flashed across Mrs. Thomson’s window. “Look!” Mary exclaimed, pointing excitedly. Dad grabbed the flashlight and waved it back and forth, signaling for help. Within minutes, they heard the sound of voices and the gentle lapping of the boat against the building. The rescue team arrived just in time, helping them all into the boat and to safety. As they sailed away from the flooded apartment, Mary looked back, feeling grateful for the bravery and love that had kept them together through the storm. 【导语】本文以一场突如其来的洪水为背景展开。在洪水肆虐、城市被淹的危急时刻,Mary一家在停电的黑暗中,不仅关心自身的安危,还牵挂着独居楼上、年老体弱的邻居Mrs. Thomson。 词汇激活 行为类 ①抓紧:cling tightly to/grasp firmly ②跳动:pound/beat ③显露;出现:reveal/appear ④颤抖:temble/shake 情绪类 ①害怕的:frightened/scared ②感激的:grateful/appreciative 【点睛】【高分句型1】The water had already seeped into the stairwell, making each step slippery and dangerous.(运用了现在分词作状语) 【高分句型2】As they sailed away from the flooded apartment, Mary looked back, feeling grateful for the bravery and love that had kept them together through the storm.(运用了As引导的时间状语从句、分词作状语以及that引导的定语从句) 2 / 2 2 / 2 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力考试正式开始。There was a fire half an hour ago. Thanks for coming to this art gallery opening. As you can see, all the art here has been painted and created to represent and celebrate local natural beauty. We come from such a beautiful place, so IT is very important to realize how at risk IT is. I'm not saying this to scare anyone, but to remind us how much we love our planet and how important IT is to protect what we love. Here you'll see images of hills on fire, powerful typhoons and rising floods within our coastal city. The biggest danger is sea level rise. Many local artists have painted our streets and train stations under water to show how real these risks are. Before we open the room to guests, I want to share the origin of this show. The initial idea was not fundraising or even climate messaging. We simply wanted to expand art classes in our community centers. That modest goal grew into this exhibition as students, teachers and neighbors offered their talent, stories and support because of every one of you. More workshops will launch next month. To thank you for helping us reach this moment, i'd like to invite several of our lead supporters to say a few words about the student program. Thanks for coming to this art gallery opening.
