第三部分:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
You can choose happiness no matter what circumstances(环境,情况,条件)you are in.You can
choose to be happy no matter what challenges life brings you.Let the following simple strategies(
guide you back to your natural happy state(状态)
Make lemonade when life gives you lemons.
Besides happiness, trouble will also be part of life. It's how you choose to react to your situations that
make the difference. If you look at something hard enough, you'll see the positive side of it.
Do what you love doing.
Do you have a lifelong dream or desire? If so,start working towards it.Taking baby steps towards a
goal will help you feel like you're accomplishing something. You'll find drive and determination to reach
that goal when it's something you love doing
Use one of your talents.
One reason why so many people are unhappy is that they're not doing what they're called to do with
their God-given talents. Each of us has a purpose in life. You have natural talents to help you achieve
your purpose,so use your talents effeatively.
Call a friend who you know is positive and cheerful.
Talk about your feelings and listen to their advice.Usually, people allow themselves to go deeper and
deeper into self-depression.The truth is that you don't have to be sad.You can decide to be happy. You
just have to make up your mind to do so.
Gratitude(感激,感谢)is the quickest cure for sadness.
When you focus on what's wrong with your life, you forget to look at what's right and good.Take a
step back and reflect on your life.Do you have children or family to be thankful for?Yes,they may not be
the person we'd like them to be,but imagine life without them. Now,be thankful that you have them in
your life.
Let your feelings out on paper.
Often you'll find that just getting your feelings down on paper will allow you to work through them,
helping you feel better about yourself and your beautiful life!

I applied to do a medical degree at the Open University (OU).It was back to basics on the course.I
knew the alphabet and some words, but my vocabulary was small.I paid for a tutor, who worked with me
every week, teaching me to understand words through pictures.
It took me nine years to get that degree. Now,aged 47,I'm an ambassador (for the OU,
winning an award for embracing education so late in life.I now teach pre-hospital emergency care to
medical school students.I also teach children and adults with learning difficulties because I want to give

In an air-conditioned office, you may see men sporting shorts while their female co-workers wear
jackets to keep warm. Why do women feel cold more easily than men?
The accepted answer is that men and women feel temperature differently. Our bodies produce heat
through metabolism )One of the key factors of the metabolic rate is our muscles.Generally
speaking, men have more muscles than women, leading to a higher metabolic rate.It means that more
heat is created. As a result, men,on average,do not feel cold as easily as women.Yes,women and men
have physical differences. But why is it women,in most cases, who feel more uncomfortable in a room
set to a“comfortable'”temperature? The answer lies in the data bias(数据偏见)behind the model of
temperature setting in buildings.
In a 2020 article in the journal Nature,Boris Kingma,a human thermal (performance
researcher in the Netherlands, pointed out that most office buildings set the temperature in light of a
model based on men's metabolic rate.Femaie data were not considered when setting the model. In other
words, temperatures for comfort in office buildings are mainly comfortable for men,not women. In his
article,Kingma called for the end of this so-called "bias in thermal comfort"
This is just one example of data bias.In her book,Caroline Perez gave more examples in which
women were ignored in data collecting for scientific and technological research and design.Women are
more likely to die from a serious car accident because a car's safety equipment is designed for the typical
body of a man.The medicine aspirin (shows better performance in men since it was developed
on data collected mostly from males.Women, who form half of the world's population, seem to be
ignored in these cases.
61.Why don't men feel cold as easily as women, according to the text?
A.Men have more fat to defeat cold.
B.Men exercise more to produce heat.
C.Men have a higher metabolic rate.
D.Men burn off less energy when moving
62.What is the main cause of women feeling uncomfortable in office buildings'temperature settings?
A.Physical differences between men and women
B.The data bias in thermal comfort models.
C.Variations in clothing choices.
D.Differences in heat tolerance.

A.Unfair.
B.Worrying.
C.Acceptable.
D.Reasonable.

research and design?
A.Safety equipmenr in cars.
B.Temperature model setting.

A.Arguments about data bias.

阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
I used to be a selfish girl and I only thought of myself.I did not care about helping others, but only
about my look,clothes,money and grades.
One day,I was suddenly influenced by my neighbor, who is now in college, and ended up wanting to
volunteer for others. He had so much fun with volunteering and told me that he felt extremely good after
helping others.I hoped to get the same results, for I felt worthless everywhere then.I viewed almost
everything in a negative way,and I figured I had to experience something that would make me appreciate
things that I had.
I volunteered at the nursing home for a year where my neighbor volunteered.I brought snacks, coffee
and games for the elderly patients, talked to them while sharing snacks, and played games like chess and
checkers them.Because they were Koreans, they often had trouble communicating with the helpers who
were hired to help them.I sometimes translated things for them and offered to be their translator
whenever they needed help.
By volunteering at the nursing home,I changed a lot.I realized how lucky I am to speak both Korean
and English and that I should help other people learn Korean as well.I had learned many life lessons
through volunteering.By helping others,I felt needed in society. Not only did it enhance my confidence,
but it also allowed others to benefit from it.
Volunteering is a great opportunity to improve oneself, others, and the whole society. So if you ever
have the chance, volunteer! It's something you won't regret!
