So, is it the same as recycling? No. Recycling takes materials -paper or glass-and breaks them down so their base materials can be reused to make a new product. When you upcycle an item, you are not breaking down the material, you are simply refashioning it. For example, you might make shoes out of old tyres. Also, the upcycled item is typically of the same, or even better, quality than the original(原来的). Upcycling isn't a new idea. Some of the best examples of modern-day upcycling come from the 1930s to 1940s when families didn't have enough materials. In those days, things were repurposed over and over until there were no longer useful. For example, an old door can be changed into a new dining table. Saving is still a trend(趋势)today and a big reason why more and more people upcycle. But an even bigger reason for the rebirth of upcycling is its good influence on the environment. Upcycling is green. The plain and simple fact of the matter is that upcycling is much better for the planet than throwing things away. When you upcycle, that's one item less that ends up on the waste mountain. Upcycling is also considerably more environmentally friendly than recycling, which needs energy or water to break down materials. Upcycling just needs your own creativity and effort. For example, Grace Robinson, from the UK, takes used tea bags and turns them into dresses, shoes and even hats. There are two ways to support the upcycling movement. Sort through your recycling bins and create items yourself, or buy ready-made items from upcycled materials. Both ways do good to the environment and in returm, you get something that's both attractive and practical. 16.What can we know about upeycling according to the passage? A.It can improve the qualiny of items. B.It needs more energy than recycling. C.It needs to break down base materials. D.It produces more waste than recycling 17.The underlined word "refaslioning" in Paragraph 2 probably means"_______". A.giving a new form B.giving a fashionable name C.making a perfect copy D.making a chemical change 18.We can learn from the passage that_______. A.recycling needs people to be more creative B.it is important to help others to upcycle C.it is not difficult for us to upcycle clothes D.upcycling is much greener than recycling 19.What'sthe best title for the passage? A.Get started to recycle today B.A modern trend: upcycling C.Is upcycling the same as recycling? D.To recycle or to upcycle? 20.Which of the following is True? A.It is very easy to carry out upcycling in our work. B.The writer tells us many ways to begin upcycling. C.Tea bags can become whatever we like by upcycling. After all, good actions always pay off! 21 He turns old tyres (轮胎) into comfortable and beautiful animal beds. Everything started several years ago. 22 Then an idea came to his mind: Why not use these tyres to make some comfortable beds for the poor dogs? From that day on, Amarildo started collecting old tyres. He first cleaned one of them and cut off its top. Next, he covered the holes in its bottom with plywood (胶合板). 23 He even sewed a cushion (缝垫子) onto the tyre in order to make the pet bed more comfortable. After turning one of the tyres into a pet bed successfully, Amarildo made up his mind to make more. He then finished more than 100 colorful beds and gave them to local animal volunteer organizations. 24 He received orders from all over the country. However, most of his pet beds have been given to homeless animals for free. 25 Not only does he recycle (回收) harmful materials, but he also helps provide better places to sleep for many animals. “The only way to a great job,” said Amarildo, “is to love what you do.” And by continuing to do this work, he is showing his great love for both the earth and the animals. A.The artist then painted the tyre pink. B.To Amarildo’s surprise, those beds became popular. C.So far, Amarildo has turned more than 6,000 old and dirty tyres into lovely pet beds. D.The Brazilian artist Amarildo Silva is certainly one with a good heart. E.Amarildo saw a few homeless dogs sleeping in some used tyres on the streets. Wetlands have many kinds of plants and animals. Native (本地的) plants grow near the water. They give food and home to animals. But if purple loosestrife (千屈菜) grows there, there is not enough room for native plants to grow. Without food and home, the plants and animals disappear. The balance (平衡) of nature is gone. That’s why purple loosestrife is called a wetland monster (怪物). Where did purple loosestrife come from? Loosestrife is a native plant in Europe and Asia. Some people used it as medicine. It came to North America in the 1800s. People think that the seeds of purple loosestrife were carried across the ocean on ships. Why did purple loosestrife grow out of control? Purple loosestrife didn’t grow out of control in Europe and Asia. That was because it had natural enemies like beetles (甲虫). Beetles ate loosestrife. They were part of the same ecosystem. Loosestrife came to North America, but its natural enemies did not. As a result, loosestrife grew taller and stronger. Native wetland plants had no place to grow. Soon the native plants began to die. How do the seeds travel? Each loosestrife plant can produce almost three million seeds a year. The seeds are tiny and light. The wind can carry the seeds far. Seeds can also travel to other places by sticking to animals’ fur (软毛) and people’s clothes and shoes. Almost all the seeds will grow. How to stop the wetland monster? People have used chemicals (化学品) and other ways to try to kill loosestrife, but it always grew back. Scientists needed to find a better way to protect the wetlands. After years of study and research, they found beetles that primarily ate loosestrife. They caught some from Europe and kept them in the United States. Then they put the beetles into wetlands. The beetles ate the loosestrife and stopped it from spreading. Now native plants are growing again. Frogs, birds, and fish are coming back. 26.Why is purple loosestrife called a wetland monster? A.Because it kills animals. B.Because it is not a native plant. C.Because it grows tall and strong. D.Because it breaks the balance of nature. 27.What does the underlined word “seeds” mean? A.种子 B.藤蔓 C.茎 D.根 28.Why was loosestrife out of control in North America? A.Because it could produce many seeds. B.Because its seeds were easy to carry far. C.Because it had no natural enemies there. D.Because its seeds could grow easily there. 29.What helped the scientists stop the purple loosestrife from spreading? A.Native plants. B.Native animals. C.Beetles that primarily eat loosestrife. D.Chemicals and other ways. 30.What’s the best title of the passage? A.The Wetlands. B.The Wetland Monster. C.The Balance of Wetlands. D.The Protection for Wetlands. 1. D.Upcycling can reduce lots of items that become waste. 16.A 17.A 18.D 19.B 20.D 【分析】本文主要介绍了升级回收。 Also, the upcycled item is typically of the same, or even better, quality than the original(原来的). 故选A。 17. For example, you might make shoes out of old tyres.例如,你可以用旧轮胎制鞋可知,此句you are simply refashioning it. Upcycling is also considerably more environmentally friendly than recycling, which needs energy or water to break down materials. Upcycling just needs your own creativity and effort. Upcycling just needs your own creativity and effort可知,升级回收需要你自己的创造力和努力,所以并不是非常容易的,所以A选项错误;根据文中There are two ways to support the upcycling movement. For example, Grace Robinson, from the UK, takes used tea bags and turns them into dresses, shoes and even hats. The plain and simple fact of the matter is that upcycling is much better for the planet than throwing things away. When you upcycle, that's one item less that ends up on the waste mountain. No beauty shines brighter than that of a good heart. D项“The Brazilian artist Amarildo Silva is certainly one with a good heart.” E项“Amarildo saw a few homeless dogs sleeping in some used tyres on the streets.” A项“The artist then painted the tyre pink.” B项“To Amarildo’s surprise, those beds became popular.” C项“So far, Amarildo has turned more than 6,000 old and dirty tyres into lovely pet beds.” Wetlands have many kinds of plants and animals. 文章第一段指出“Without food and home, the plants and animals disappear. The balance of nature is gone. That’s why purple loosestrife is called a wetland monster.”,说明紫千屈菜被称为湿地怪物是因为它破坏了自然平衡。 27.文章第四段指出“Each loosestrife plant can produce almost three million seeds a year. The seeds are tiny and light. The wind can carry the seeds far.”,种子轻小、可随风传播、能长出植物,由此推断“seeds”意为“种子”。 28.文章第三段指出“Loosestrife came to North America, but its natural enemies did not. As a result, loosestrife grew taller and stronger.”,说明紫千屈菜在北美失控是因为那里没有它的天敌。 29.文章最后一段指出“they found beetles that primarily ate loosestrife...The beetles ate the loosestrife and stopped it from spreading.”,说明是吃紫千屈菜的甲虫帮助阻止了其蔓延。 30. $
