A
①Shanghai now has its first World Natural Heritage (遗产) site! It is the Dongtan National Nature Reserve (保护区), a wetland on Chongming Island. It was included in the World Heritage List on July 26, 2024, along with four other wetlands in China.
②Shanghai’s Chongming Island is a must-see for bird lovers. Every year, large numbers of migratory birds (候鸟) visit the island. They stop mostly in the Dongtan National Nature Reserve. The reserve sits on the eastern end of the island and covers 241.55 square kilometers. So far, about 300 kinds of birds have been seen in the area.
③Why has the place become an ideal home for migratory birds? Let’s look at its location (位置).
④At the mouth of the Yangtze River, Dongtan is a great wetland. It’s home to plenty of fish and other animals. Its ecosystem provides a perfect habitat (栖息地) for birds. They use it for nesting and raising young. It’s also a place for birds to feed, drink and rest.
⑤In fact, Chongming Island sits in the middle of the East Asian-Australasian Flyway (EAAF). The EAAF is one of the world’s nine main migration ways for birds. It covers a very large area, from Alaska and the Russian Far East to Australia and New Zealand. More than 50 million birds take this way.
⑥The Dongtan wetland is a key stopover site (中途停留点) along the EAAF. “About one million visits by migratory birds—including those that fly past—are recorded at Dongtan every year,” says Ma Zhijun, a professor at Fudan University’s School of Life Sciences.
⑦In the past few decades, many wetlands have been destroyed. Bird populations have reduced because they have lost their habitats. Luckily, in recent years, the government has worked hard to protect the wetlands.
11.How many wetlands in China were included in the World Heritage List on July 26, 2024?
A.One. B.Two.
C.Four. D.Five.
12.How does the writer show that Shanghai’s Chongming Island is a must-see for bird lovers?
A.By listing numbers. B.By asking questions.
C.By giving explanations. D.By giving suggestions.
13.What will the writer probably discuss after the last paragraph?
A.The importance of protecting the wetlands.
B.The reasons for protecting the wetlands.
C.The history of the wetlands’ development.
D.The great efforts to protect the wetlands.
14.Which of the following shows the structure of the passage?
A. B.
C. D.
【答案】11.D 12.A 13.D 14.A
第①段指出:“It was included in the World Heritage List on July 26, 2024, along with four other wetlands in China.”
12.第②段通过具体数据说明:“The reserve sits on the eastern end of the island and covers 241.55 square kilometers. So far, about 300 kinds of birds have been seen in the area.”
13.第⑦段结尾提到:“Luckily, in recent years, the government has worked hard to protect the wetlands.”
B
Hubei is a beautiful province in central China. People call it”the Province of a Thousand Lakes” because there are over 1,000 lakes here! The Yangtze River, China’s longest river, runs through Hubei and connects many of these lakes.
15 They give homes to fish and birds, and provide water for people and farms. But they need our protection. What can we do to help? Here are four easy ways.
Keep lakes clean
Never throw rubbish into lakes or on their banks. 16 If the water stays clean, animals will live happily, and we can enjoy clear lakes too.
Save water at home
Turn off the tap while brushing teeth, and reuse water for plants. When we save water, less dirty water goes into lakes. This keeps the water fresh and safe for everyone.
17
Talk to your family and friends about why lakes are important. Let them know that polluting lakes is bad for nature and people. When more people care, more will join in to help.
Join in clean-up activities
If there’s a lake near your home or school, take part in cleaning days. 18 This makes the lake area beautiful again.
Lakes make Hubei special. They shape our land, culture, and future. 19 Together, we can keep our “thousand lakes” clean and beautiful for a long time!
A.These lakes are important.
B.Tell others about lake protection
C.Let’s start with these small steps.
D.Pick up litter with your classmates.
E.Lakes give fish homes, but no water for people.
F.Even a small plastic bag can hurt fish and plants.
【答案】15.A 16.F 17.B 18.D 19.C
根据上文“there are over 1,000 lakes here!”提到湖北有很多湖泊,下文“They give homes to fish and birds, and provide water for people and farms.”
16.本段主题是保持湖泊清洁,前句“Never throw rubbish into lakes or on their banks.”
根据“Talk to your family and friends about why lakes are important.”
18.本段主题是参与清洁活动,前句“If there’s a lake near your home or school, take part in cleaning days.”
19.文章结尾段,上文“They shape our land, culture, and future.”
Recently, some local people expressed doubts about the “dim (昏暗的) and dark” environment at Shenzhen Bay Park at night. The government explained that dimming or turning off the lights was meant to protect migratory birds (候鸟).
Shenzhen Bay Park lies on the East Asian-Australasian Flyway. It is one of the world’s nine main migratory bird flyways. Every winter, tens of thousands of birds stop here during their long journeys. Too much artificial light (人造光) can influence the birds’ resting and change their migratory rhythms (节奏). To help, the leaders of the park decided to dim the lights and reduce (减少) nighttime lighting.
However, this doesn’t mean all lights are turned off. The main entrances (入口) and main walkways of the park still have some lighting for safety, so people can use the park at night. At the same time, the areas that are important to migratory birds are kept dark and softly lighted.
Many people supported the decision after learning the reason. Some even said, “It is a warm action. We should leave living spaces for wildlife.”
Dimming lights for nature brings several advantages. It helps wildlife, including millions of birds, by reducing the harm (伤害) to their natural cycles. It also lets people rediscover the beauty of stars and get real rest at night.
In fact, Shenzhen is not alone. Lanshan, Hunan Province also lies on the same migratory flyway. It has become a habit to turn off the lights in public places at a fixed (固定的) time in the evenings from September to November every year. Even the local people who dance in the square are moved by the project. They offer to dim the lights to help the migratory birds find their way.
As cities grow and develop, Shenzhen’s example shows that progress doesn’t always mean bright city lights. An ideal (理想的) city knows when to step forward with warmth and when to step back, making space for nature’s needs.
20.What does Shenzhen Bay Park do to protect migratory birds?
A.Dim or turn off the lights when necessary.
B.Turn off all the lights everywhere in the park.
C.Turn on more lights to help birds find their way.
21.How does dimming lights for nature help migratory birds?
A.By changing their flying ways.
B.By making their living spaces smaller.
C.By reducing the harm to their natural cycles.
22.Why is Lanshan, Hunan Province mentioned in Paragraph 6?
A.To show more cities are doing the same as Shenzhen.
B.To explain why the local people agree to dim the lights.
C.To introduce the relationship between Shenzhen and Lanshan.
23.What’s the writer’s purpose in writing the passage?
A.To call on people to get close to nature.
B.To discuss what an ideal city should be like.
C.To encourage people to make space for wildlife.
【答案】20.A 21.C 22.A 23.C
根据第一段“The government explained that dimming or turning off the lights was meant to protect migratory birds.”及第三段“However, this doesn't mean all lights are turned off.”
21.根据第五段“It helps wildlife, including millions of birds, by reducing the harm to their natural cycles.”
22.根据第六段“In fact, Shenzhen is not alone. Lanshan, Hunan Province also lies on the same migratory flyway.”
23.根据第四段“We should leave living spaces for wildlife.”及第七段“making space for nature’s needs.”
