But now she rarely left her Bronx apartment. She was afraid that, unable to see a stranger approaching, she would be knocked down on the streets. In fact, mostly, she worried about the way she would appear to the world. She wondered constantly, “What if people look at me differently, and treat me differently?” After several months of grief and fear, Sheppard resolved to keep moving. Hard as it was, Sheppard forced herself to go out. She attended a social event for people with visual problems, and was shocked to find that not only did no one dance, but they barely moved. “Oh no!” she told herself. “That is not the way I want to live!” She bought a walking stick and named it Tyreek, which she had always planned on giving a son if she had one. Sheppard continued to work at her library job at The New York Times until her vision worsened in her 50s. And she kept moving and dancing. Sheppard was 61 when she attended a summer camp for the blind in 2008, where she taught her first line dancing class. After that, she asked a Manhattan community center run by Visions if she could teach her class there, but she was told no and that it would be too dangerous for the students. Still, she persisted, and soon convinced the administrators to let her teach line dancing on a volunteer basis. Her classes proved to be so popular that in 2012, Visions hired her to be on staff. Sheppard was excited. She was teaching over a dozen students dance steps. But Sheppard instructed her beloved students on far more than that. With constant encouragement, she also managed to make dignity and independence take root in them. In her classes, the students could truly be themselves. 24. Why was Sheppard unwilling to leave her apartment? A. She had a lot of housework to do. B. She had to attend her son at home. C. She was afraid of being looked down upon. D. She was worried about getting involved in accidents. 25. How did Sheppard feel about her walking stick? A. She was often greatly embarrassed by it. B. She regarded it as a temporary necessity. C. She treated it simply as an ordinary tool. D. She valued it as something special. 26. Why did the community center refuse Sheppard’s request at first? A. They didn’t have enough space for dance classes. B. They were concerned about the students’ safety. C. They didn’t believe Sheppard could teach well. D. They thought dancing wasn’t suitable for blind people. 27. What did Sheppard’s students learn from her? A. Humor and patience. B. Intelligence and honesty. C. Imagination and creativity. D. Self-respect and self-reliance. C A new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that an inability to stand unsupported on one leg for 10 seconds in middle and older age is associated with nearly double the risk of death from any cause within the next decade. This simple balance test may be useful to include in routine physical exams for these age groups. The research noted that while aging leads to declines in physical fitness, muscle strength, and flexibility, balance remains reasonably well-preserved until a person’s 50s, when it starts to wane relatively rapidly. Previous research has linked poor one-legged balance to a greater risk of falls and cognitive decline. The study involved 1,702 participants aged 51 to 75 living in Brazil. During an initial check, they were asked to balance unsupported on one leg: placing the front of the free foot behind the standing leg, keeping arms by their sides, and eyes fixed straight ahead. Up to three attempts on either foot were permitted. Participants averaged 61 years old, with two-thirds being men. Approximately one in five (around 20%) failed to balance for 10 seconds at this initial checkup. Researchers monitored participants for seven years after the checkup. Within this period, 123 people (7%) died. The proportion (比例) of deaths among those who failed the test (17.5%) was significantly higher than among those who passed (4.5%). Study author Dr. Claudio Gil Araújo emphasized that the ability to balance on one leg is important for older people and reflects wider fitness and health levels. The study was observational and does not establish cause and effect, nor did it investigate potential biological mechanisms explaining the link between poor balance and longevity. However, those who failed the test generally had poorer health, including a higher proportion of people who were fat and/ or had heart disease, high blood pressure, unhealthy blood fat profiles, and type 2 diabetes. Conducted between 2009 and 2020 as part of a wider project starting in 1994, the study also found that the inability to complete the test increased markedly with age. Failure rates roughly doubled at following 5-year intervals from the 51-55 age group onwards. More than half (around 54%) of participants aged 71-75 failed, compared to just 5% in the 51-55 age bracket. 28. What does the underlined word “wane” in paragraph 2 possibly mean? A. Strengthen. B. Decrease. C. Expand. D. Spread. 29. What can we learn from the study? A. Those aged 51 and above were asked to balance the body. B. The participants had to stand on one leg with arms crossed. C. The majority of participants succeeded in balancing initially. D. Those failing to balance had double danger of death in later life. 30. How did the test failure rate change with age according to the finding? A. It increased just after age 70. B. It showed a slight and steady rise. C. It remained constant across all ages. D. It roughly doubled every five years. 31. What is the passage mainly about? A. The imbalance of body tends to increase with the flexibility falling. B. The imbalance of standing on one leg suggests higher risks of death. C. Irregular physical exercise does harm to building up muscle strength. D. The inability to stand stably causes higher rates of developing diseases. D Portia Kapraun has always seen unwelcome ads on Twitter, usually from major brands pitching (竭力推销) her expensive jewelry or vehicles that she, as a librarian in Indiana, could not afford. Ms. Kapraun was not interested. But she soon saw the ads again. And again. And again. “These feel like low-end ads,” she said. In a shaky advertising market in an uncertain economy, ads that few people want to see suddenly seem to be everywhere. Advancements in digital advertising technology were meant to improve users’ experience. People interested in shoes are intended to get ads for sneakers and boots, not repeated pitches promoting gold investments. And the technology is supposed to remove misleading or dangerous pitches. But lately, on several platforms, the opposite seems to be happening for a variety of reasons, including a slowdown in the overall digital ad market. As numerous deep-pocketed markets have pulled back, and the softer market has led several digital platforms to lower their ad pricing, opportunities have opened up for less demanding advertisers. Advertising experts agree that poor-quality ads appear to be increasing greatly. They point to a variety of potential causes: internal troubles at technology companies, weak content moderation (审核), and high-level advertisers seeking other choices. Then, there’s the economy: A recent survey of 43 multinational companies representing more than $44 billion in advertising spending found that nearly 30 percent planned to cut back on their marketing spending last year. Other factors are also contributing to lower advertising quality. Social media advertising, once only practiced by specialists, is now easily available to anyone. Many of them are avoiding targeted ads—placements intended to reach specific audiences, usually at a higher cost -- in favor of a cheaper spray-and-pray (广撒网式的) approach online, hoping to catch the attention of gullible (容易受骗的) or bored shoppers. Major social media platforms are now like “a mall that used to be good”, Corey Richardson, vice president at a multicultural ad company, says. “But now there’s no longer a mall there —it’s just a place selling anything.” 32. What message does the author want to deliver in Portia Kapraun’s story? A. Repeated ads have a strong power of persuasion. B. Social media users often encounter unwanted ads. C. Major brands usually prefer social media advertising. D. An uncertain economy leads to lower levels of consumption. 33. What can be inferred about the “less demanding advertisers” mentioned in Paragraph 2? A. They are forced to exit the digital ad market. B. They have benefited from advertising experts. C. They work hard to improve their users’ experience. D. They can now advertise at a more affordable price. 34. What is Corey Richardson’s attitude to major social media platforms? A. Negative. B. Unclear. C. Favorable. D. Hopeful 35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. Where is social media advertising heading? B. What is shaking up the online advertising market? C. Why are you seeing so many bad digital ads now? D. How are targeted ads impacting your-purchase decisions? Advice to the Hard-working Girl You are not a superwoman. For many young athletes like him in Whitehorse, Yukon, the Yukon Cross-Country Ski Championships were more than just a competition. It was their dream. A year ago, Johnny qualified for the Championships and successfully won a medal. After the competition, Johnny was eager to share his experience with Hayden, his teammate and best friend. Hayden had narrowly missed qualifying for the Championships. Johnny had watched his friend train tirelessly, push himself to the limit, and always keep his big smile. Johnny knew how much the Championships meant to Hayden. Johnny handed Hayden some colorful pins. “These are pins I traded with athletes from all over Yukon,” Johnny said with a smile, “I want you to have them, so you can feel a part of the event too.” Hayden was touched. “Thanks, Johnny. This means a lot.” “Next time,” Johnny continued, “I hope you can also experience the event. I know you’ll make it.” Hayden nodded. “I’ll work even harder for that.” This year’s Yukon Cross-Country Ski Championships would be held in a month. Coach Nick guided the team through daily tough training and the team made significant progress in their skating, cornering, and downhill techniques. Meanwhile, they enhanced their endurance and balance. Both Johnny and Hayden met the Championship standards. Given Johnny’s rich competitive experience, Coach Nick once again qualified Johnny for this year’s event and Hayden was selected as an alternate (替补). The qualification for the competition excited Johnny, but there was always an idea staying in his mind. Johnny knew his friend had been wanting to go to the Championships for several years. This was the last chance for both of them to attend the Championships, as they would age out of the competition after this year. The thought became clear in his mind, strong and steady. The next day, Johnny went to see the coach. Since childhood, Sheppard had always been a keen dancer. 根据第一段中“She was afraid that, unable to see a stranger approaching, she would be knocked down on the streets. In fact, mostly, she worried about the way she would appear to the world. She wondered constantly, “What if people look at me differently, and treat me differently?” (她担心自己看不见陌生人走近,会在街上被撞倒。事实上,大多数时候,她更担心自己在世人眼中的样子。她总是在想:“如果人们用不同的眼光看我,用不同的方式对待我,该怎么办呢?”)”可知,Sheppard不愿离开公寓,主要是因为担心别人用异样的眼光看待她、区别对待她,即害怕被轻视。故选C项。 25. How did Sheppard feel about her walking stick? A. She was often greatly embarrassed by it. B. She regarded it as a temporary necessity. C. She treated it simply as an ordinary tool. D. She valued it as something special. 根据第二段中“She bought a walking stick and named it Tyreek, which she had always planned on giving a son if she had one. (她买了一根拐杖,给它取名叫Tyreek,这是她一直打算如果自己有儿子的话,给儿子取的名字。)”可知,Sheppard给拐杖起了一个原本计划给儿子的名字,这体现出她将拐杖视为特殊的存在,而非普通工具。故选D项。 26. Why did the community center refuse Sheppard’s request at first? A. They didn’t have enough space for dance classes. B. They were concerned about the students’ safety. C. They didn’t believe Sheppard could teach well. D. They thought dancing wasn’t suitable for blind people. 根据第三段中“After that, she asked a Manhattan community center run by Visions if she could teach her class there, but she was told no and that it would be too dangerous for the students. (之后,她询问了由Visions运营的曼哈顿社区中心是否可以在那里教课,但她被告知不行,因为对学生来说太危险了。)”可知,社区中心最初拒绝Sheppard的请求是因为他们担心学生的安全。故选B项。 27. What did Sheppard’s students learn from her? A. Humor and patience. B. Intelligence and honesty. C. Imagination and creativity. D. Self-respect and self-reliance. 根据最后一段中“But Sheppard instructed her beloved students on far more than that. With constant encouragement, she also managed to make dignity and independence take root in them. In her classes, the students could truly be themselves. (但Sheppard教给她的学生们的远不止这些。通过不断的鼓励,她还让尊严和独立在学生们心中扎根。在她的课堂上,学生们可以真正做自己。)”可知,Sheppard的学生从她那里学到了自尊和自立。故选D项。 C 【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了一项研究发现,中老年人单腿无支撑站立10秒失败与未来十年全因死亡风险翻倍相关,且失败率随年龄增长而升高。 A new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that an inability to stand unsupported on one leg for 10 seconds in middle and older age is associated with nearly double the risk of death from any cause within the next decade. A. Strengthen. B. Decrease. C. Expand. D. Spread. 根据第二段“The research noted that while aging leads to declines in physical fitness, muscle strength, and flexibility, balance remains reasonably well-preserved until a person’s 50s, when it starts to wane relatively rapidly. Previous research has linked poor one-legged balance to a greater risk of falls and cognitive decline.(该研究指出,虽然衰老会导致身体素质、肌肉力量和柔韧性下降,但平衡在50多岁之前仍然保持得相当好,直到50多岁时,平衡开始相对迅速地wane。之前的研究表明,单腿平衡不良与跌倒和认知能力下降的风险更大有关)”可知,50多岁之前,平衡性保持得相当好,推测此处表示的是50多岁时,平衡开始相对迅速地减弱,划线单词wane表示“减弱”,与Decrease意义相近。故选B项。 29. What can we learn from the study? A. Those aged 51 and above were asked to balance the body. B. The participants had to stand on one leg with arms crossed. C. The majority of participants succeeded in balancing initially. D. Those failing to balance had double danger of death in later life. 根据第三段“Approximately one in five (around 20%) failed to balance for 10 seconds at this initial checkup.(大约五分之一(约20%)的参与者在初次检查中未能平衡10秒)”可知,80%左右的参与者初次平衡测试成功,即大多数参与者成功。故选C项。 30. How did the test failure rate change with age according to the finding? A. It increased just after age 70. B. It showed a slight and steady rise. C. It remained constant across all ages. D. It roughly doubled every five years. 根据最后一段“Failure rates roughly doubled at following 5-year intervals from the 51-55 age group onwards.(从51-55岁年龄组开始,之后每5年,失败率大致翻倍)”可知,测试失败率每五年大致翻倍。故选D项。 31. 根据第一段“A new study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine suggests that an inability to stand unsupported on one leg for 10 seconds in middle and older age is associated with nearly double the risk of death from any cause within the next decade. Portia Kapraun has always seen unwelcome ads on Twitter, usually from major brands pitching (竭力推销) her expensive jewelry or vehicles that she, as a librarian in Indiana, could not afford. 根据第一段中“Portia Kapraun has always seen unwelcome ads on Twitter, usually from major brands pitching (竭力推销) her expensive jewelry or vehicles that she, as a librarian in Indiana, could not afford. Ms. Kapraun was not interested. But she soon saw the ads again. And again. And again. (Portia kappraun总是在Twitter上看到不受欢迎的广告,通常是大品牌向她推销昂贵的珠宝或汽车,作为印第安纳州的图书管理员,她买不起这些广告。Ms. Kapraun对此不感兴趣。但她很快又看到了广告。一次又一次。一次又一次。)”可知,作者想在Portia kappraun的故事中传达的信息是社交媒体用户经常会遇到不想要的广告。故选B。 33. What can be inferred about the “less demanding advertisers” mentioned in Paragraph 2? A. They are forced to exit the digital ad market. B. They have benefited from advertising experts. C. They work hard to improve their users’ experience. D. They can now advertise at a more affordable price. D。 34. What is Corey Richardson’s attitude to major social media platforms? A. Negative. B. Unclear. C. Favorable. A。 35. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text? A. Where is social media advertising heading? B. What is shaking up the online advertising market? C. Why are you seeing so many bad digital ads now? D. How are targeted ads impacting your-purchase decisions? 综上,全文围绕“如今的社交媒体上为什么会出现如此多低质广告”这一核心问题展开,故C项“Why are you seeing so many bad digital ads now?” Advice to the Hard-working Girl You are not a superwoman. It means your body is off and you need to get it back in order 【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文,主要是给努力工作的女孩的一些建议,包括不要承担过多任务,要学会拒绝、合理分配任务、平衡工作与生活、保证充足睡眠等。 36. 【答案】B 【解析】根据下文“In order to please everyone, you try to say “yes” and be nice, not knowing that you're hurting yourself in the long run. Saying “yes” to everything adds pressure(为了取悦每一个人,你试着说“好的”并且表现得友好,却不知道从长远来看你正在伤害自己。对所有事情都说“好的”会增加压力)”可知,上文说的是对所有事情都说“好的”会增加压力,可推理出本段主要讲的是不要对所有事情都答应,B项“Stop saying “yes” to everything(不要对所有事情都说“好的”)”能作为该段的小标题,故选B项。 37. 【答案】F 【解析】根据上文“You always need to make sure not to let anyone down and forget that you have to take care of yourself, too.( 你总是需要确保不要让任何人失望,并且不要忘记你也必须照顾好自己)”可知,上文提到了不要忘记你也必须照顾好自己,可推理出空处应陈述要在感觉任务过多、不堪重负时,学会拒绝,照顾好自己,F项“You should know you can say “no” when you feel overloaded(当你感觉不堪重负时,你应该知道你可以说“不”)”是对上文的合理延伸,故选F项。 38. 【答案】C 【解析】根据上文“but don't let that make you feel like you have to take on everything at once(但是不要让那种想法让你觉得你必须一次性承担所有事情)”和下文“For example, if there are twenty things you need to do, do ten today and ten at another time(例如,如果你有二十件需要做的事情,今天做十件,另找时间做另外十件)”可知,要学会把事情分解开,C项“You should learn to break things up(你应该学会把事情分解开)”符合语境,故选C项。 39. 【答案】D 【解析】根据下文“Taking on too much at times makes you forget that there is a life to live. Everyone is proud of the work you’ve done but they miss you, too. Take a day to hang out with friends and family. The work will still be there, and balancing work with fun will actually make you more efficient(有时承担太多事情会让你忘记还有生活要过。 40. 【答案】G 【解析】根据上文“When it comes to not being able to sleep, it should be a wake-up call(当涉及到无法入睡时,这应该是一个警示信号)”可知,当无法入睡时,这应该是一个警示信号,由此推知,空处应解释这个警示信号是什么。G项“It means your body is off and you need to get it back in order(这意味着你的身体出了问题,你需要让它恢复正常)”是对上文“警示信号”的具体解释,故选G项。 It was a sunny Sunday afternoon. First…Second…Then…Third…(衔接词串联四条建议,条理分明);4. Start with short essays and gradually write longer ones(and连接并列祈使句,给出由短到长、循序渐进的可操作路径);5. Then ask your teacher or classmates to correct your mistakes(ask sb. do sth.,强调借助外部反馈反复修改);6. Third, accumulate more words and phrases, which will make your writing more colorful(which引导非限制性定语从句,点出积累的直接收益);7. Looking forward to your good news!(书信结尾惯用语,简洁得体)。 【词汇升级】提高:improve→enhance / polish up;建议:suggestion→tip / proposal;练习:practice→keep up a regular writing routine;积累:accumulate→build up a bank of;进步:see progress→make steady progress。 Johnny, a 17-year-old from Whitehorse, had been competing in Cross-Country Skiing for five years. Hayden accepted the precious chance to compete in the Championships. The next day, Johnny went to see the coach. He told the coach that he wanted to give his qualification to Hayden. Johnny explained that this was the last chance for both of them to attend the Championships, and Hayden had been longing for it for years. He believed Hayden deserved this opportunity as he had trained so hard. The coach was moved by Johnny’s selfless act. After considering Johnny’s request carefully, the coach agreed to let Hayden take Johnny’s place. Hayden accepted the precious chance to compete in the Championships. He was extremely grateful to Johnny. He knew this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and he didn’t want to let Johnny down. In the following days, Hayden trained even harder. When the Championships finally arrived, he gave it his all. Although the competition was tough, Hayden’s determination and hard work paid off. He performed well and achieved a great result, making both Johnny and himself proud. 【第一段】由首句“The next day, Johnny went to see the coach.(第二天,Johnny去见了教练。)” 【第二段】由第二段首句“Hayden accepted the precious chance to compete in the Championships.(Hayden接受了这宝贵的参赛机会。)” 1】He believed Hayden deserved this opportunity as he had trained so hard.(运用了as引导的原因状语从句与省略that的宾语从句,写出Johnny替好友据理力争时的笃定。) 2】Although the competition was tough, Hayden’s determination and hard work paid off.(运用了although引导的让步状语从句,并以pay off收束,凸显“付出终有回报”的主题。) 第一部分 听力(1一20) 1▣A▣B 2☐A☐B 3☐A☐B 4☐A☐B 5□A☐B ▣C 口C 口C □C 口C 6☐A☐B 7☐A☐B 8☐A ▣B 9☐A☐B 10 ☐A☐B ▣C 口C ☐C □C ☐C 11☐A OB 12 □A▣B 13☐A☐B 14☐A☐B 15☐A☐B □c □C ▣C 口C □C 16☐A ☐B 17☐A☐B 18☐A☐B 19☐A☐B 20☐A☐B 口C 口C 口C C C 第二部分 阅读(2135) 21☐A ☐B 22☐A☐B 23☐A☐B 24☐A ☐B 25 ☐A▣B 口C口D ▣C口D 口C口D 口C口D 口C □D 26☐A OB 27 □A ▣B 28☐A☐B 29☐A □B 30☐A ▣B 口C□D 口C口D 口C口D 口C口D 口C□D 31□A □B 32 □A□B 33☐A☐B 34☐A □B 35□A▣B 口C□D □C口D □C□D CD □C口D 第二节七选五(36一40) 36☐A☐B 37 □A▣B 38□A☐B 39☐A☐B 40 ▣A▣B □C▣D ▣E ▣C 口D口E □C口D □E □C 口D 口E ▣C 口D口E 口F□G OF ☐G □FOG OF ☐G CF 口G 第三部分 语言运用(41-55) 41☐A ☐B 42 ☐A☐B 43☐A☐B 44☐A☐B 45 □A▣B Oc OD OC口D □COD 口C口D 口C口D 46☐A ▣B 47☐A☐B 48▣A▣B 49☐A □B 50▣A▣B 口C口D 口C口D □C口D □C口D □C□D 51☐A☐B 52☐A▣B 53☐A☐B 54☐A☐B 55▣A▣B □C▣D □C□D □C□D OC口D □C▣D 第二节语法填空(56一65) 56. 57. 58. 59. 60. 6 63. 64. 65. 第四部分写作 第一节(66题,满分15分) Dear Tom, 第二节(67题,满分25分) The next day,Johnny went to see the coach.
