More than 1,000 temperature-controlled delivery (快递) boxes developed by JD.com have been put into use in Suzhou recently. The city is now the second area in the country, after Beijing’s Yizhuang, where such boxes are used everywhere.
Traditional boxes only keep food warm or cool by themselves. The smart boxes, however, have two separate parts. The cold part can keep temperatures between -5 and 15℃, while the warm part stays between 40 and 55℃. The boxes also have a fully closed lock system to deal with different road conditions. Each box has a special light that can kill 99.99 percent of bacteria.
The temperature-control system not only keeps food better but also helps reduce complaints (投诉) about delivery workers. The screen on the boxes also offers free advertising space for small, less famous restaurants in Suzhou.
On Aug. 20, Suzhou’s Gusu District and JD.com’s local life division signed a cooperation (合作) agreement. The two sides will work together in home services, food delivery, quick shopping and supermarkets to build a wider digital lifestyle service system. From being the first to include red light waiting times in delivery timing for workers to introducing temperature-controlled delivery boxes, Suzhou is speeding up service innovation (创新) to make daily life more convenient (便利).
4. What is special about the smart delivery boxes?
A. They are made of traditional foam. B. They can keep cold and warm food at the same time.
C. They are only used in Beijing’s Yizhuang. D. They depend on riders to control temperature.
5. What can we learn about Suzhou from the text?
A. It is the first city in China to use smart delivery boxes.
B. It has included red light waiting times in delivery timing.
C. It has stopped using traditional foam boxes completely.
D. It only works with JD.com on food delivery.
6. What can be inferred about the cooperation between Gusu District and JD.com?
A. It only serves well-known restaurants. B. It will replace supermarkets in Suzhou.
C. It aims to develop digital daily-life services. D. It is mainly about delivery box production.
7. What is the best title for the text?
A. Smart Boxes Keep Food Fresh in Suzhou B. JD.com Opens New Supermarkets
C. How to Become a Delivery Worker D. Beijing Leads in Food Delivery
B 5. B 6. C 7. A

根据文章第二段中的“The smart boxes, however, have two separate parts. The cold part can keep temperatures between -5 and 15℃, while the warm part stays between 40 and 55℃.( 然而,智能快递箱有两个独立的部分。冷藏部分可以保持在-5到15℃,而保温部分保持在40到55℃。)”可知,这种智能快递箱的特别之处在于它可以同时对食物进行保冷和保温。
【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章最后一段中的“From being the first to include red light waiting times in delivery timing for workers to introducing temperature-controlled delivery boxes, Suzhou is speeding up service innovation (创新) to make daily life more convenient (便利).( 从率先在配送时间中纳入红灯等待时长,到推出温控配送箱,苏州正加快服务创新,让日常生活更加便捷。)”
根据文章最后一段中的“The two sides will work together in home services, food delivery, quick shopping and supermarkets to build a wider digital lifestyle service system.( 双方将在家庭服务、外卖、快速购物和超市方面展开合作,以建立一个更广泛的数字生活服务系统。)”

One afternoon in 2026, something on the Internet caught my eye: a tiny hedgehog (刺猬) held by a big hand. The post read: “HELP! My hedgehog abandoned (抛弃) her two babies, and I cannot raise both of them because I have to go to school full time. Good home with experience needed as soon as possible!”
I had no experience with baby hedgehogs. I was an animal person and had raised cats, dogs, birds, and guinea pigs. But this tiny animal was new to me, and it touched me that he was abandoned, that maybe I could love him and be the best mom for him.
I wrote the most heartfelt email I could. That was how I found my Louie. True to my word, he was my baby. Louie didn’t know he was a hedgehog. He never curled (蜷缩) into a ball, and he liked my two cats, no fear. The cats, however, were afraid of him, as he often moved into the room, running after the cats and blocking my way.
By the time he reached old age, Louie had only three feet. However, he still managed to climb the stairs to visit other animals. He helped me realize my dream of hedgehog photography, a hobby that began during childhood with cats and dollhouses. I love showing off his modeling.
Life has meaning because of the purpose we have. Louie needed a good home and mom, and in return, I got to be a good mother and be needed. Hedgehogs require great amounts of patience, trust, and knowledge — but the payoff (回报) is pretty great.
8. The author got Louie from ______.
A. a pet shop B. a family friend C. a rescue center D. a stranger on the Internet
9. How did Louie seem to feel at the author’s home?
A. Relaxed. B. Anxious. C. Frightened. D. Lonely.
10. What can we learn about Louie from paragraph 4?
A. He was active though he was old. B. He enjoyed climbing stairs alone at home.
C. He always refused to appear in photos. D. He enjoyed being left alone.
11. What does the author say about raising Louie?
A. It was easier than expected. B. It gave her a sense of safety.
C. It was satisfying and meaningful. D. It made her lose her patience.
D 9. A 10. A 11. C
根据第一段“One afternoon in 2026, something on the Internet caught my eye: a tiny hedgehog (刺猬) held by a big hand. The post read: “HELP! My hedgehog abandoned (抛弃) her two babies, and I cannot raise both of them because I have to go to school full time. Good home with experience needed as soon as possible!”(2026 年的一个下午,网上的一则信息吸引了我的目光:一只大手托着一只小小的刺猬。帖子写道:“求助!我的刺猬抛弃了两只幼崽,因为我要全日制上学,没法抚养两只刺猬。急需有经验的好心人家收养!”)”可知,作者从网上一位陌生人那里得到了Louie。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段“Louie didn’t know he was a hedgehog. He never curled (蜷缩) into a ball, and he liked my two cats, no fear.(路易不知道自己是一只刺猬。它从不蜷缩成一团,还喜欢我家的两只猫,毫无畏惧。)” 可知,路易在作者家中感觉放松自在。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段“By the time he reached old age, Louie had only three feet. However, he still managed to climb the stairs to visit other animals.(到年迈时,路易只剩下三只脚。然而,它依旧努力爬上楼梯去看望其他小动物。)”可知,Louie虽然年老,但依旧很活跃。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据第五段“Life has meaning because of the purpose we have. Louie needed a good home and mom, and in return, I got to be a good mother and be needed. Hedgehogs require great amounts of patience, trust, and knowledge — but the payoff (回报) is pretty great.(生活因我们拥有的目标而富有意义。路易需要一个温暖的家与妈妈,而作为回报,我得以成为一个好妈妈,感受到被需要。饲养刺猬需要极大的耐心、信任和知识,但回报相当美好。)”可知,饲养Louie这件事令人满足且富有意义。

In December 2025, Australia will make history as the first country to ban children under 16 from using social media platforms (平台) like Meta, X, and TikTok. This groundbreaking policy has led to heated global discussion, making Australia a test case for solving one of today’s trickiest youth problems.
The Australian government, led by Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, says the ban is a necessary response to a growing public health problem. Many studies link too much social media use among young people to higher rates of depression, self-harm, and addiction. Beyond that, the platforms’ design causes other risks like self-worth damaging. Albanese said, “Social media are doing social harm to our kids. We’ve reduced time on it. We want our kids to have a childhood.”
However, experts raise serious concerns. Teens who are skilled in technology might use VPNs to avoid the ban, pushing them to less safe parts of the internet. Overly strict selection could also prevent them from using valuable learning resources and social connections, especially for marginalized (被边缘化的) youth or kids from other regions seeking real community. Social media companies like Meta and TikTok have blamed the policy, noting they already offer age-suitable safety features.
Globally, other Western nations have taken different approaches. The EU uses rules to force tech companies to be more serious, while U.S. efforts aren’t worth mentioning — federal (联邦的) action is prevented by free speech debates, and states have different bans.
As a medium-sized market, Australia’s policy results will offer important lessons for other countries. If the ban improves teens’ mental health without creating unlawful digital markets or separating weak groups, it could become a global model. If it fails, it will serve as a warning about the limits of government control in the borderless digital world. All eyes are on Australia to see how this brave experiment carries on.
12. Why did Australia introduce the social media ban for under-16s?
A. To respond to the overuse of social media.
B. To promote local social media platforms.
C. To offer teens more online learning resources.
D. To limit tech companies’ influence on Australia.
13. What is the experts’ attitude towards Australia’s ban?
A. Positive. B. Unclear.
C. Worried. D. Disappointed.
14. What may make Australia’s ban successful?
A. Young people give up using the internet.
B. Other countries copy the policy immediately.
C. Tech companies stop updating social media platforms.
D. Australia improve teens’ mental health without side effects.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. Tell Differences of Social Media Rules
B. Australia’s Under-16 Social Media Ban
C. Australia’s Social Media Policy History
D. Protect Youth from Today’s Social Media
A 13. C 14. D 15. B

A. happened发生;B. agreed同意;C. failed未能;D. pretended假装。
A. everywhere到处;B. somewhere某处;C. anywhere任何地方;D. nowhere无处。
根据上文“Yesterday, while driving my youngest child to an activity, I suddenly started to cry.”

A. staying away from远离;B. coming up with提出;C. moving on to继续前往;D. looking down upon轻视。根据空前的“my daughter would graduate from high school”和空后的“the next part of her life”可知,高中毕业意味着进入人生下一个阶段,moving on to符合本句语境。
A. method方法;B. purpose目的;C. task任务;D. subject话题。根据上文作者的女儿问的话“Are you okay, Mum?”

One sunny afternoon, I brought my favorite stamp collection (集邮) to school, especially to show Luke a rare stamp (邮票) my uncle gave me. Luke loved it — he touched the stamps gently and said they were amazing. I felt happy to share it with him.
But the next morning, the rare stamp was gone (不见了). I searched everywhere in my room but couldn’t find it. Then I thought: Luke was the only one who saw it. Did he take it?
The next day, I asked Luke angrily, “Did you take my stamp?” He looked shocked and said, “No! I’d never take your things. You’re my friend.” But I didn’t believe him. I spoke coldly, and Luke walked away, hurt.
After that, we stopped talking and avoided each other. Our good friendship was broken, all because of the lost stamp.
