When I was young, my family treated every vacation as a lesson in culture. We skipped beaches and amusement parks, heading instead to castles, museums, and ancient ruins. I remember being ten, standing before a 500-year-old painting, secretly wishing I were at a swimming pool.
As an adult, I carried on this tradition. When planning trips, I gathered guidebooks, eager to explore every cultural site. I felt it was my duty to absorb as much as possible about the places I visited. This mindset shaped my travels, yet it often made them tense and hurried. I was constantly rushing from one landmark to another, trying to stuff in facts and history, frequently forgetting to simply appreciate the moment.
However, everything changed on a short trip to Bequia, a small island in the Caribbean. I arrived with the usual expectations but soon realized there were no famous museums or historic landmarks to explore. Instead, there were peaceful beaches, calm crystal-clear waters, and warm, welcoming locals. At first, this felt unfamiliar and even disappointing. I grew restless with boredom, struggling to fill my days with the kind of meaningful activities I was used to.
As the days passed, I gradually let go of the need to “do something important.” I began to delight in simple pleasures: reading books purely for enjoyment, wandering along the sandy shore without a plan, and watching the ocean waves roll in without overthinking their meaning. For the first time, I felt truly relaxed. I experienced the quiet joy of simply being present, free from pressure or expectations.
By the end of my stay, I understood something vital: travel doesn’t always have to be about learning or sightseeing. Sometimes, its greatest gift is found in embracing the moment and enabling yourself to experience stillness. I returned home with a fresh insight that true travel is not just about discovering the world outside, but also about uncovering a deeper peace within.
4. How did the author find the travel in his childhood?
A. In line with his interests. B. Centered on family bonds.
C. More like a cultural duty. D. Filled with expectations.
5. Why did the author feel uneasy when he arrived at Bequia?
A. The island was small and crowded.
B. There were no expected landmarks.
C. It was hard to communicate with locals.
D. He hadn’t planned his daily activities in advance.
6. What did the trip to Bequia help the author realize?
A. Short trips bring less comfort.
B. Planning ensures perfect vacations.
C. Culture is more powerful than nature.
D. True travel includes moments of stillness.
7. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. A Childhood of Cultural Travel.
B. The Journey Without a Guidebook.
C. Memories of Museums and Castles.
D. The Search for Meaningful Journeys.
According to an official report, with more than 40% of US teenagers reporting ongoing feelings of sadness or hopelessness, Dr Kenneth Barish, a child psychologist, believes grandparents may be an important part of the solution. He says the decline of extended family involvement has been identified as a contributing factor to a continuing crisis in child and adolescent (青少年) mental health.
“We did not evolve to raise children with as little extended family and community support as most American parents have now,” says Dr Barish. “Children need grandparents, and they always have.”
In his new book, Dr Barish draws on 40 years of clinical experience, as well as findings from neuroscience, child development studies, and educational programs, to argue that grandparents can play a meaningful role in helping families navigate today’s parenting challenges.
Dr Barish says grandparents offer more than just practical support for parents. They also provide what he describes as “molecules of emotional health”, small but meaningful moments of encouragement, attention, and understanding that help strengthen children’s “emotional immune systems”.
“A child’s confident expectation that someone will listen and understand is the best protection against the emotional pathogens (病原体) they will experience throughout their childhood. More than anything else, children need someone in their life who listens, who helps them feel less alone, and who teaches them that problems can be solved, relationships can be repaired, and bad feelings do not last forever,” Dr Barish explains.
Ultimately, Dr Barish argues, “Helping children thrive (茁壮成长) depends less on teaching specific skills and more on fostering emotional strength, confidence, and meaningful relationships. Our children will then work harder, bounce back more quickly, show more caring and kindness toward others, and pursue interests with greater enthusiasm, commitment, and a sense of purpose.”
8. What does Dr Barish think contributes to the ongoing crisis in child mental health?
A. Growing bonds between generations.
B. Reduced family and neighbor assistance.
C. Insufficient community support for parents.
D. Less participation from relatives in raising kids.
9. What lays the foundation of Dr Barish’s new book?
A. His family upbringing and observations of child behavior.
B. His clinical records and data from brain science research.
C. His four-decade practice and findings from related fields.
D. His professional background and modern educational theories.
10. Which can be the molecules of emotional health?
A. Small acts of emotional care. B. Expensive gifts for children.
C. Strict rules for behavior. D. Physical medicines for health.
11. What is crucial for children to thrive according to the last paragraph?
A. Mastering specific skills. B. Pursuing personal interests.
C. Showing caring toward others. D. Developing emotional intelligence.
The caption reads: You live alone and have no friends, so this is how you spend your Friday night. In the video, a woman enters a neat apartment, pours a glass of wine, and relaxes on the sofa, looking peaceful and content. This type of content is created by so-called “loneliness influencers,” who present solitude (独处) as comfort and freedom rather than something to avoid. While being able to enjoy your own company is psychologically healthy, romanticizing friendlessness, isolation (孤独), and loneliness can be problematic.
A recent article in The Atlantic provides a glimpse into how these individuals view their peaceful lives, with hashtags like #cozyathome and #alonenotlonely. But there is a catch: social media only captures brief moments, and interpreting isolation as aesthetics (美学) can dilute the significance of belonging and community.
Research suggests loneliness is at epidemic levels, with 38% of U. S. adults reporting moderate-to-severe loneliness in 2022. The Surgeon General’s 2023 report concluded that loneliness and social isolation increase the risk for early death, stroke, depression and dementia. Based on the potential negative outcomes, it seems to be anything but romantic or “trendy”.
According to Abraham Maslow’s “Hierarchy of Needs,” love and belonging come immediately after physiological needs and safety needs. Maslow’s theory of human needs dates back to 1943 and has been widely accepted in the psychology field since.
To be fair, there have certainly been positive mental health and self-care messages that influencers have helped bring to the mainstream, but sometimes their content unintentionally promotes unhealthy concepts and ideas. We need to look no further than the classic and current research to see that a promotion of loneliness and isolation comes with significant risks, which casts doubt on the beautified portrayal on social media.
Our current culture of influencers brings to mind an ancient Latin phrase: caveat emptor, or “let the buyer be cautious.” It is on us as the consumer to determine the quality of a product before purchasing it. Over time, this has become applicable to social media.
12. What does the underlined word “dilute” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Reveal. B. Evaluate. C. Highlight. D. Cheapen.
13. What does the author stress by referring to the “Hierarchy of Needs”?
A. The impacts of isolation. B. The significance of psychology.
C. The differences of human needs. D. The necessity of social connection.
14. Why does the author mention the Latin phrase?
A. To offer a solution. B. To sound a warning.
C. To clarify a theory. D. To promote a product.
15. What is the best title for the text?
A. The Rise of Influencer Culture B. The Trend of Enjoying Living Alone
C. Hidden Risks of Loneliness Aesthetics D. Health Problems Caused by Social Media
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
An intellectual partnership is more than being coworkers. ____16____ It’s close but not romantic; it’s lifelong but outside the family. An intellectual partnership includes learning, investigating, challenging, and celebrating the thing two people are most passionate about, together.
____17____ The most obvious reason is the power of having two minds engaged. Simply put, two heads, twice the ideas. Another person can build on your idea, push it further, add a new angle, enhance its creativity, or turn it into something more practical. The deeper payoff is the specific expertise (专长) partners have formed. In a longtime collaboration, collaborators may know the ins and outs of a difficult technology, or the many methods that have failed until this point. That deep expertise is something they may only share with one another. This helps with efficiency. ____18____ If things get hard, there’s a reason to go on; you’re in this together. You’re accountable to another person. The same accountability isn’t there when you’re on your own.
To build a strong intellectual partnership, recognizing each person’s strengths and weaknesses is key. This awareness allows partners to divide labor strategically — playing to each other’s strengths while anticipating potential blind spots. ____19____ These include having open dialogue, checking in intentionally and regularly, learning conflict resolution skills, valuing the other’s efforts and successes, and developing the perfect workflow.
Learning to balance an intellectual partnership can take time. ____20____ Some collaborations may be strictly professional; for others — Erica Cerulo and Claire Mazur, Stephen Dubner and Steven Levitt, and so many more — the lifelong friendship may be exactly what fuels their success.
A. It’s different from being friends.
B. Equally important are communication skills.
C. The emotional bond between partners varies greatly.
D. Collaboration helps initiate tasks and develop continuity.
E. The intellectual benefits of partnership are rarely recognized.
F. Intellectual collaboration can be surprisingly fruitful for good reasons.
G. Working with another person also boosts determination and accountability.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was an arrogant (傲慢的) high school boy full of blind self-confidence, firmly believing that I was more capable than all my classmates at managing group tasks. When our teacher formally announced that our school would hold a lively campus charity fair to raise money for poor children in remote villages, I volunteered without hesitation to take charge of the second-hand book stall. I also actively persuaded nearly ten warm-hearted classmates to donate their unused books to support my booth.
My thoughtful classmate Lina had kindly reminded me in advance to classify different kinds of books, mark clear and reasonable prices, and design simple promotional posters to attract visitors. However, I rudely turned down her sincere advice and even laughed openly at her for being overly cautious. I gathered large piles of various books, including interesting storybooks, popular magazines and practical exam reference books. Without any careful arrangement, I stuffed these mixed books randomly into several rough cardboard boxes.
On the official day of the charity fair, while other groups devoted plenty of time and energy to decorating their stalls with colorful ribbons and beautiful handwritten signs, I did almost no preparation at all. I just laid all my books in a total mess on the table and wandered around the campus casually, firmly convinced that high-quality books alone would naturally draw a large number of buyers.
As noon slowly rolled around, all the neighboring stalls were packed with busy and energetic students. In sharp contrast, almost no one stopped or spared a glance at my book booth. Worse still, several reference books accidentally slipped off the table and got badly stained by the fruit juice spilled by passing students.
Standing alone beside my cold booth, I watched Lina’s handmade toy stall become extremely popular and listened to their cheerful and merry laughter. Strong regret and great embarrassment wrapped me tightly. I fully realized that my stupid arrogance and laziness had wasted my classmates’ kind donations. Just as I sank into deep self-blame and despair, Lina finished her temporary work and walked straight towards me.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150左右;
(2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Seeing my depression, Lina didn’t mention my previous rudeness but proposed a plan.

When the charity fair drew to an end, our book stall unexpectedly topped the donation list.

The activity will start at 8 a.m. this Saturday at the main gate of Lakeside Park. I especially recommend the photography check‑in part along the jogging route to you. The park is famous for its beautiful lake views and various wild flowers this season, and you can take fantastic photos while enjoying the gentle wind and fresh air during the jog. It will be a great chance for you to relax and record the lovely natural scenery at the same time.
We all know you are a big fan of jogging and taking photos, so this activity will surely suit you very well. We are all looking forward to your joining us and having a wonderful time together.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

Seeing my depression, Lina didn’t mention my previous rudeness but proposed a plan. Eager to make amends, I nodded gratefully and we set it in motion. Our forces joined, we split the messy pile into three categories: fairy tales, novels, and review materials. Lina set about creating eye-catching price tags with colorful pens, whereas I humbly borrowed long, elegant ribbons to decorate our table. Knowing students hunted for cheap books, we wiped the juice-stained copies clean and shouted warm promotions. Gradually, as a steady stream of curious buyers gathered, my face flushed with profound guilt for mocking her careful suggestions before.
When the charity fair drew to an end, our book stall unexpectedly topped the donation list. To our immense thrill, the collected cash far exceeded our expectations. The heavy donation box in my hands, I turned to Lina with red-rimmed eyes. Not only did I formally apologize for my unbearable arrogance, but I also thanked her for saving the day. She accepted it softly, a forgiving smile washing away my lingering guilt. Ultimately, this unforgettable experience engraved a priceless truth in my mind: true success is rooted in collaboration rather than blind pride. From then on, I swallowed my ego, always ready to embrace others’ valuable advice.
