The old man and the sea is one of hemingway, is most lasting works, and may become one of the true classics of this generation. IT played a great part in his winning the pull surprise in one thousand and fifty three and the nineteen fifty four nobel prize in literature, and confirmed his power and presence in the literary world. Hemingway is also one of my favorite writers. Besides the old man and the sea, I ve read some of his other works, such as the sun also rises, a farewell to arms and the snow of killer jarrow. But the old man and the sea is the one that left the deepest impression on me. This novel mainly wrote about one old man alone in the sea who fishes. He caught one big fish, but he met a shark on the way home. The old man used all his skills to fight with the shark. At last, the fish he caught was eaten up by the shark, but he never gave up. This book shows to us that the confidence is just like the automobiles, motor and this power, which makes the person go forward. That desire stayed for several years, but family, work and duties quieted that inner voice until it was no longer heard, drowned out by routine life. I told myself I’d go “someday”, but that day never arrived, hidden under work deadlines and the comfort of a familiar life. At 60, that voice grew louder, filled with the quiet fear that I had missed my chance to explore faraway places. Around the same time, I worked with Jack, a 30-year-old client(客户) full of the same restless energy I’d kept deep inside for a long time. He dreamed of quitting his boring job, leaving his unhappy marriage and traveling around the world to rediscover himself. Talking with him every week felt like looking in a mirror, making me face my own fears: being laughed at, being judged and giving up my safe, predictable life. Jack’s determination finally encouraged me to make plans for a six-week solo trip along Australia’s wild western coast. When my finger hovered(悬停) over the booking button, I secretly hoped the payment would fail, giving me one more excuse to hesitate. But I knew this mix of excitement and fear was normal — something I’d seen in my clients, especially older ones who held on to safety even when it was no longer good for them. As the booking confirmation(确认) popped up, I knew stepping into uncertainty, at any age, could bring growth, confidence and joy. My family’s different reactions reminded me: courage doesn’t fade with age; it deepens, and it’s never too late to chase the dreams I once put away. 24. What can we infer about the author from the text? A. She used to give up her dreams for daily duties. B. She disliked talking with different clients at work. C. She believed travelling is only for the young people. D. She felt nothing but calm when booking the trip. 25. What can we learn about Jack from the passage? A. He refused to make any change in his daily life. B. He disagreed with the author’s travel decisions. C. He travelled across Australia many times. D. He shared similar inner feelings with the author. 26. What is the main idea of the passage? A. Ways to plan a safe solo trip in distant countries. B. The author’s story of chasing dreams at sixty. C. Survey results about travelling after retirement. D. Advice on how to help young people with life choices. 27. Which of the following statements would the author most likely agree with? A. Fear stands in the way of one’s pursuit of dreams. B. Youth is the only time for adventure. C. Safety is better than all adventures. D. It’s never too late to dream. A 25. D 26. B 27. 根据第一段“I have always wanted to travel alone, letting my adventurous spirit lead me. That desire stayed for several years, but family, work and duties quieted that inner voice until it was no longer heard, drowned out by routine life.(我一直渴望独自旅行,让冒险精神引领我前行。这种愿望持续了许多年,但家庭、工作和责任逐渐压制了内心的声音,直到它被日常生活的喧嚣所淹没,再也听不到了)”可知,作者过去常常因为日常的责任而放弃自己的梦想。 25. 细节理解题。根据第二段“Around the same time, I worked with Jack, a 30-year-old client (客户) full of the same restless energy I’d kept deep inside for a long time. He dreamed of quitting his boring job, leaving his unhappy marriage and traveling around the world to rediscover himself. Talking with him every week felt like looking in a mirror, making me face my own fears: being laughed at, being judged and giving up my safe, predictable life. 根据最后一段“My family’s different reactions reminded me: courage doesn’t fade with age; it deepens, and it’s never too late to chase the dreams I once put away. (我家人不同的反应让我明白:勇气不会随年龄增长而褪色,它反而会更加深厚,而且追梦永远都不晚)”可推知,作者最可能同意的观点是“追逐梦想永远不会太晚”。 C Have you ever seen a dog kick up grass and dirt after pooping or peeing(大小便)? Some owners think it’s dirty or silly. But there’s actually a good reason behind this behavior. Dr. Carlo Siracusa, an animal behaviorist, explains that the kick is a form of communication. The kick sends two messages for other dogs at once: a smell and a visual(视觉的) mark. First, there’s the smell. Dogs have scent glands(气味腺) in their paws(爪). When they kick the ground, they spread their own scent around. This tells other dogs who was there. The scratching(挠) also spreads the smell over a wider area and pushes some of it into the air. That way, a dog passing by can catch the scent even from a distance. Second, there’s the visual mark. The broken ground and kicked-up leaves are like a sign. If another dog sees the place, it knows, “A dog was here recently.” This tells other dogs about presence and timing. A mark from an hour ago gives different information than one from a few days ago does. This behavior comes from wolves, dogs’ wild relatives. Wolves use scent marks to show where their territory(领地) is and warn others to stay away. Even though most pet dogs don’t need to protect territory, they’ve kept this instinct. Street dogs still use ground-scratching to set up territory lines and frighten away enemies. Some dogs may also kick because of nerves. Dr. Siracusa says anxious dogs often mark more to say “I’m around.” This helps them avoid conflict (冲突) with other dogs. However, there’s no hard data proving anxious dogs kick more than calm ones — just a pattern he’s noticed in his clinic. So next time your dogs kick up grass, don’t pull them away. They’re just leaving a message for their furry friends! 28. Why do dogs kick up grass after peeing or pooping according to Dr. Siracusa? A. To clean their paws. B. To hide their smell. C. To look for their own kind. D. To leave messages for other dogs. 29. What does the visual mark on the ground tell other dogs? A. How big the dog is. B. What the dog has eaten. C. Which way the dog went. D. How recently the dog was there. 30. Which is closest in meaning to the underlined word “instinct” in paragraph 5? A. A bad habit. B. A learned skill. C. A natural behavior. D. A careful decision. 31. Which of the following is a best title for the text? A. “Pee-mail”: The Real Reason Your Dog Kicks Up Dirt B. “Dirt Dancer”: The Secret Dance Your Dog Does After Pooping C. Hiding Waste: How Dogs Bury Their Poop to Stay Safe from Enemies D. Wolf Instinct: Why Your Dog Marks Territory Like Their Wild Relatives 【答案】28. D 29. D 30. C 31. Carlo Siracusa, an animal behaviorist, explains that the kick is a form of communication. The kick sends two messages for other dogs at once: a smell and a visual (视觉的) mark.(动物行为学家Carlo Siracusa博士解释说,这种踢的动作是一种交流方式。这一踢同时向其他狗传递两种信息:气味和视觉标记)”可知,狗排尿或排便后踢起草是为了给其他狗留下信息。 29. 细节理解题。根据第四段中“If another dog sees the place, it knows, “A dog was here recently.” This tells other dogs about presence and timing. A mark from an hour ago gives different information than one from a few days ago does.(如果另一只狗看到这个地方,它就会知道,“最近有一只狗来过这里。”这告诉其他狗关于存在和时间的信息。一小时前的标记与几天前的标记提供的信息不同)”可知,地面上的视觉标记告诉其他狗这只狗最近什么时候来过,即“多久之前来的”。 30. 词句猜测题。根据第五段“This behavior comes from wolves, dogs’ wild relatives. Wolves use scent marks to show where their territory (领地) is and warn others to stay away. Even though most pet dogs don’t need to protect territory, they’ve kept this instinct.(这种行为来自狼,狗的野生亲戚。 D Written more than two hundred years ago, these lines by Walter Scott remain one of the most well-known excerpts of Scottish poetry: Oh, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practise to deceive! We all know that honesty is an important value and that lying is wrong, but who can honestly say that they’ve never told a lie? Perhaps we comfort ourselves with the knowledge that most of the lies we tell are “white lies”: little lies that we tell to protect others from the truth. We’ve all surely had the experience of someone cooking a meal for us that we don’t like. The majority of us of course don’t tell the truth — we lie and say that the food is “delicious”. Or if a friend asks us what we think of their new haircut, we say “It’s great!”, even if we think it’s awful. But to what extent can we justify telling white lies like these? One of the main reasons for telling a white lie is to try to make others feel better. However, when we lie and say that someone’s haircut looks good, or when we say that we love a meal that we secretly hate, are we really hoping to improve the situation for someone else? Perhaps we are in fact lying to protect ourselves from the disappointment and anger of others. Another reason for telling a white lie is to give encouragement. Say for example that your friend asks you what you think of his singing. You of course say that it’s wonderful, despite secretly thinking that your cat can sing better. Stop for a moment and consider that perhaps your friend wants some frank comments from you so that they can improve. Or perhaps, they need to know that they should look for a different hobby. Finally, we may also tell a white lie when we want to protect others from bad news. If you’ve had a bad day, do you tell your parents about it, or do you hide your tears and lie that your day was fine? If the latter, don’t you think your parents would want to listen to you and understand your feelings? Wouldn’t it be better to respect their concern for you and ask for their advice? Going back to Walter Scott’s lines, we may find even white lies have results we cannot know in advance. Perhaps the meal you said was “delicious” will be served every time you visit. Would your friend trust your opinion again if he found out you had lied about his “wonderful” singing? How would you expect others to truly understand your emotions if you only shared good news instead of bad? Moreover, how would you feel if you discovered that the people closest to you had been hiding the truth from you? 32. Why does the author mention Walter Scott’s poem in the beginning? A. To introduce the topic. B. To attract poem lovers. C. To remember Walter Scott. D. To express his doubts about honesty. 33. How many reasons does the author give to explain why people tell white lies? A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five. 34. What does the author advise us to do when we have a bad day? A. Lie to others. B. Go on a trip alone. C. Hide our true feelings deeply. D. Turn to our parents for advice. 35. What is the author’s attitude towards telling white lies? A. Supportive. B. Negative. C. Uncaring. D. Puzzled. A 33. B 34. D 35. 根据第一段中的“Written more than two hundred years ago, these lines by Walter Scott remain one of the most well-known excerpts of Scottish poetry: Oh, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practise to deceive!(沃尔特·斯科特两百多年前写下的这几句诗仍是苏格兰诗歌中最知名的片段:啊,当我们初次存心欺骗,就编织出一张纷乱难解的网!)” 根据第五段中的“One of the main reasons for telling a white lie is to try to make others feel better.(说善意谎言的主要原因之一是让别人心情变好。)”、第六段中的“Another reason for telling a white lie is to give encouragement.(说善意谎言的另一个原因是给予鼓励。)”以及第七段中的“Finally, we may also tell a white lie when we want to protect others from bad news.(最后,当我们想保护他人免受坏消息伤害时,我们也会说善意的谎言。)” 根据第七段中的“Wouldn’t it be better to respect their concern for you and ask for their advice?(体谅他们对你的关心,并向他们寻求建议,难道不是更好吗?)” 根据第八段中的“Going back to Walter Scott’s lines, we may find even white lies have results we cannot know in advance.(回到沃尔特·斯科特的诗句,我们会发现即便是善意的谎言,也会产生我们无法提前预料的后果。)” Why do some people seem able to build strong connections with others, while others find their conversations quickly fall into silence or misunderstanding? 36 However, true communication is not simply the exchange of words. A conversation often fails not because people cannot talk, but because they are not truly listening. Although two people may appear to discuss the same subject, they may actually have different purposes. One may hope to find a solution, while the other may simply need emotional support. 37 So what makes communication successful? 38 Effective communicators do not just hear words; instead, they pay attention to the emotions and ideas behind them. By asking meaningful questions and showing genuine interest, they encourage others to share more openly. In addition, small signals, including changes in voice, facial expressions, or pauses, can provide valuable information about what people truly feel. These clues deserve close observation, yet they frequently slip by unnoticed in casual chats. 39 Sharing personal thoughts and feelings in an appropriate way can help build trust, because people are more likely to open up when they feel respected and understood. However, effective communication does not mean saying everything but means finding a balance between honesty and consideration. Ultimately, becoming a good communicator is not about winning debates or finding perfect words. 40 With patience and sincere attention, communication can become a bridge that connects hearts, strengthens relationships, and helps us build a more connected world. A. One essential skill is learning to listen actively. B. Such details should be ignored during ordinary conversations. C. It depends mainly on having enough knowledge and experience. D. It is about making people feel heard, respected, and understood. E. Another important part of communication is the ability to express oneself honestly. F. Many believe good communication consists of clear delivery and powerful idea expression. G. When the difference is ignored, even well-intended words create distance instead of connection. F 37. G 38. A 39. E 40. 36. 根据上文“Why do some people seem able to build strong connections with others, while others find their conversations quickly fall into silence or misunderstanding?(为什么有些人似乎能够与他人建立深厚的关系,而另一些人却很快陷入沉默或误解?)” 37. 根据上文“A conversation often fails not because people cannot talk, but because they are not truly listening. Although two people may appear to discuss the same subject, they may actually have different purposes. One may hope to find a solution, while the other may simply need emotional support.(一场对话之所以失败,往往并非因为人们无法交谈,而是因为他们没有真正倾听。尽管两个人看似在讨论同一个话题,但实际上目的可能截然不同:一个人或许希望找到解决方案,而另一个人可能只是需要情感上的支持)”可知,上文提到交谈双方看似讨论同一话题,实际沟通目的并不相同,一方寻求解决方案,另一方只需要情感慰藉。G项“当差异被忽视时,即使是一些善意的话语也会制造距离,而非建立联系”点明忽视这种差异会带来的负面沟通后果,承接上文现象。 38. 根据上文“So what makes communication successful?(那么,什么能让沟通成功呢?)”以及后文“Effective communicators do not just hear words; instead, they pay attention to the emotions and ideas behind them. By asking meaningful questions and showing genuine interest, they encourage others to share more openly. In addition, small signals, including changes in voice, facial expressions, or pauses, can provide valuable information about what people truly feel. These clues deserve close observation, yet they frequently slip by unnoticed in casual chats.(有效的沟通者不仅听懂言辞,更关注其背后的情绪和想法。 39. 根据后文“Sharing personal thoughts and feelings in an appropriate way can help build trust, because people are more likely to open up when they feel respected and understood. However, effective communication does not mean saying everything but means finding a balance between honesty and consideration.(以适当的方式分享个人的想法和感受有助于建立信任,因为当人们感到被尊重和理解时,更愿意敞开心扉。然而,有效的沟通并不意味着说尽所有话,而是要在诚实与体贴之间找到平衡)”可知,本段讲述恰当分享个人想法、在坦诚与体谅之间寻求平衡。E项“沟通的另一个重要方面是能够真诚地表达自己”引出真诚表达自我这一沟通要素,开启本段话题,与上文倾听形成并列逻辑。 40. 根据上文“Ultimately, becoming a good communicator is not about winning debates or finding perfect words.(最终,成为一名优秀的沟通者,并不在于赢得争论或找到完美的措辞)”以及后文“With patience and sincere attention, communication can become a bridge that connects hearts, strengthens relationships, and helps us build a more connected world.(以耐心和真诚的倾听,沟通可以成为连接心灵的桥梁,增进关系,并帮助我们构建一个更加紧密相连的世界)”可知,上文使用“not about……” 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题,每小题1分,满分15分) Last summer, my friends and I were super excited for a camping trip in a remote forest. His grandma, Svala Heller, sat nearby, watching him with a warm smile. This was their daily routine. Svala took care of Avant with great love. She fed him, sang songs to him, and comforted him when he was upset. They shared a special love that brought them very close. One afternoon, Svala turned on the TV to watch a movie. On the screen, a high school prom(舞会) scene unfolded — students in beautiful dresses and suits were dancing happily. Svala leaned in slightly, her eyes tracing the movements of the dancers with quiet admiration. Her fingers paused mid-air, moving near her chest, as if she were imagining herself in one of those dresses. Then she leaned back into the sofa, her shoulders dropping just a little and she sighed softly. “Look at that, Avant,” she said. “I grew up in Iceland. We did not have proms there. I always dreamed of going to a special dance like that, but I never had the chance.” Avant noticed that the way his grandmother smiled had faded. He stopped playing and climbed onto her lap. He looked into her eyes with a serious face. “Don’t be sad, Grandma,” he said in his childish voice. “When I grow up, I will take you to the prom. I promise.” Svala laughed. She thought it was just a sweet joke from a little boy, but she hugged him tightly. “Okay, my dear. I will wait for you,” she said and pulled him into a tight hug. Twelve years passed quickly. The little boy was now a 17-year-old high school student. Prom season arrived. While most students were asking their classmates to the dance, Avant had a different plan. He never forgot the promise he made in the living room. He decided it was time to make his grandmother’s dream come true. Avant told his best friend, Ruben Smith, about his plan. “I am taking my grandma to the prom,” Avant said. “It has been her dream for a long time.” Ruben was touched by his friend’s kindness. “Count me in! Svala was surprised to see him dressed so formally. Then, Avant handed her a small bunch of flowers. “We are going to the prom, Grandma,” he said with a smile. Svala was shocked. She covered her mouth with her hands, and tears of joy ran down her face. “You remembered!” she cried. “I thought you had forgotten!” She wore her best dress, tears filling her eyes. Ruben waited outside with a warm smile. They headed to the car, ready for the unforgettable night. Together, they arrived at the school gym where the prom would be held. The music was loud, and the lights were beautiful. When Avant and Svala walked onto the dance floor, the other students smiled and cheered for them. Then, a slow song began. Avant gently took his grandmother’s hand and led her to the center of the floor. “Thank you, Avant,” she whispered as they danced. “This is the best night of my life.” Avant smiled at her. He was happy because he finally kept the promise he made twelve years ago. 词汇激活 行为类 ①以为:think/assume ②看到:see/catch sight of 情绪类 ①快乐的:happy/delighted ②难忘的:unforgettable/memorable 【点睛】 [高分句型1]She wore her best dress, tears filling her eyes.(运用了现在分词的独立主格结构) [高分句型2]He was happy because he finally kept the promise he made twelve years ago.(运用了because引导原因状语从句) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026-2027学年江苏徐州上学期期中自编模拟卷 高一英语 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 注意事项: 1. 1. C Have you ever seen a dog kick up grass and dirt after pooping or peeing(大小便)? Wolf Instinct: Why Your Dog Marks Territory Like Their Wild Relatives D Written more than two hundred years ago, these lines by Walter Scott remain one of the most well-known excerpts of Scottish poetry: Oh, what a tangled web we weave, When first we practise to deceive! A. Supportive. B. Negative. C. Uncaring. D. Puzzled. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2. 5分, 满分12. 5分) 阅读下面短文, 从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Why do some people seem able to build strong connections with others, while others find their conversations quickly fall into silence or misunderstanding? 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题,每小题1分,满分15分) Last summer, my friends and I were super excited for a camping trip in a remote forest. I’ll be Grandma Svala’s second date!” 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 On prom night, Avant dressed in a black suit and went to his grandma’s house. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Together, they arrived at the school gym where the prom would be held. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
