Sharon, Aged 22
The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don't know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have for one night. It's best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to do.
Frank, Aged 21
I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!
David, Aged 19
I'm not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you'll get used to it. Don't be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you're afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school quickly. After the first week it's really not bad at all. Don't worry.
Eddie, Aged 20
When I started high school, I was really anxious too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn't really know anyone. I suppose the best advice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.
21. What can we infer (推测) from Sharon's words about high school?
A. Teachers are quite strict. B. Students often stay up at night.
C. Teachers provide little care for students. D. Students should make good use of their time.
22. Who mentions the importance of friends?
A. David. B. Frank. C. Sharon. D. Eddie.
23. How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school?
A. Excited. B. Worried. C. Bored. D. Relaxed.

If you are planning on travelling, there are a few simple rules about how to make life easier both before and after your journey.
First of all, always check and double-check departure (出发) time. It is surprising how few people really do this carefully. Once I arrived at the airport a few minutes after ten. My secretary had got the ticket for me and I thought she had said that the plane would leave at 10:50. Surprisingly, the person at the departure desk told me that my flight was closed. Therefore, I had to wait three hours for the next one and missed an important meeting.
The second rule is to remember that even in this age of credit cards, it is still important to have some local money in cash (现金). Once I arrived at a place at midnight and the bank at the airport was closed. The only way to get to my hotel was by taxi but because I had no dollars, I offered to pay in pounds instead. “Listen! I only take real money!” the driver said angrily. You can imagine how terrible I felt at that moment.
The third and the last rule is to find out as much as you can about the weather at your destination before you leave. I feel sorry for some of my workmates who travelled in heavy suits and raincoats in May, when it is still fairly cool in London or Manchester, to places like Athens, Rome or Madrid, where it is already beginning to get quite warm during the day.
24. When did the author arrive at the airport probably?
A. At 9:55. B. At 10:00. C. At 10:05. D. At 10:50.
25. When the author found he had no dollars to pay the taxi driver, he ______.
A. offered to pay in pounds B. tried to pay by credit card
C. asked the driver to give him a free ride D. gave the driver some fake (假的) money
26. Generally, in May the weather in London is ______.
A. hot and wet B. cold and dry C. warm and dry D. cool and rainy
27. What is the text mainly about?
A. How to make rules. B. How to schedule our trip.
C. How to enjoy ourselves on a trip. D. How to make life easier.
C
Why is setting goals important? Because goals can help you do, be, and experience everything you want in life. Instead of just letting life happen to you, goals allow you to make your life happen.
Successful people imagine how their life should be and set lots of goals. By setting goals, you are taking control of your life. It's like having a map to show you where you want to go.Think of it this way. There are two drivers. One has a destination in mind (her goal), which can be found on a map. She can drive straight there without any wasted time or wrong turns. The other driver has no goal or destination or map. She starts off at the same time from the same place as the first driver, but she drives aimlessly around, never getting anywhere, just using up gas. Which driver do you want to be?
Winners in life set goals and follow through on them. They decide what they want in life and then get there by making plans and setting goals. Unsuccessful people just let life happen by accident. Goals aren't difficult to set — and they aren't difficult to reach. It's up to you to find out what your goals really are. You are the one who must decide what to achieve and in what direction to aim your life.
Research tells us that when we write a goal down, we are more likely to achieve it. Written goals can be reviewed regularly, and have more power. Like a contract (契约) with yourself, they are harder to neglect or forget. Also, when you write your goals in a particular way, you are able to make yourself continuously aware of situations that will bring you nearer to your goals.
28. What does the author want to show by giving the example of two drivers?
A. The wisdom of the first driver. B. The importance of setting goals.
C. The importance of having a map. D. The foolishness of the second driver.
29. What is the secret to winners' success according to the text?
A. Making perfect plans. B. Doing what they love.
C. Letting life happen by accident. D. Setting goals and carrying them out.
30. What can we learn about goals from the last paragraph?
A. Writing down goals can help achieve them.
B. A person should only write down one goal.
C. Writing down your goals makes you unique.
D. Setting and achieving your goals are not easy.
31. Which word best describes the author's attitude toward setting goals?
A. Unclear. B. Negative. C. Positive. D. Doubtful.

Besides, you can communicate with your Chinese teacher who knows how to study efficiently and effectively. Additionally, watching Chinese programs is a better choice, which can not only entertain you, but also improve your listening and pronunciation.
