Everyone needs help sometimes. People depend on one another. So lots of special people in communities are ready to lend a helping hand to anyone.
For example, what would we do without a community fire station? If a home catches fire, as Jackson’s home did last week, it might be burned down and people might get hurt or worse. We’re so lucky to have firemen come to save people and put out the fire. If the firemen hadn’t come so fast, the Jacksons might have lost everything.
And what about our local police? The police have helped so many families, especially saving people and pets after heavy rain.
Think about all the other service workers we have in this community. Some people collect waste and rubbish (垃圾) and keep our community clean. Some people repair traffic lights and holes in the streets for not just us, but our cars! And what would this community be without the teachers in our school, the doctors and nurses in our community hospitals?
Think again about what we eat every day; think again about what we wear every day. We cannot make them, but we use them all the time. We get a lot from all these workers. We need these people in the community. We depend on each other. Let’s support and help each other. Only in this way can we make our community a better place.
23.What happened to the Jacksons last week?
A.They lost their pets. B.They had a house fire. C.They broke their car.
24.What does the underlined word “repair” probably mean?

25.What is the purpose of the text?
A.To make people laugh.
B.To make our community a better place.
C.To introduce ways of shopping.
26.What is the best title for the text?
A.Policemen Save People’s Lives
B.Service Workers Do Important Jobs
C.People Depend on Each Other
