Many people talk about superpowers. Some people want to fly like a bird, while others want to be invisible so no one can see them. But do you know what the best superpower is? It’s kindness! Kindness can make your day brighter. It can help you when you feel bad. Sometimes, it can even change your life.
A man once told a story about his 7th grade experience. He lived in Chicago then. Back then, he was a “slow reader”. That meant he read more slowly than other kids. Almost everyone gave up on him. But his English teacher, Mrs Daniels, didn’t. She wanted to help him.
Every day, Mrs Daniels stayed with him after school. She spent extra time helping him read better. One day, she said something very kind to him, “You’re not dumb; you just need time.” Those words made him feel good. He kept trying, and his reading got better.
Now, the man is 28 years old. He has a great job as a writer. He writes stories and articles. He said he wouldn’t have this job without Mrs Daniels. Her kindness is like a superpower. It has changed his life.
Maybe you can have this superpower, too. Help your classmates pick up their books if they drop them by accident, or share your snacks with someone who has none. Small acts of kindness are easy, but they can make a big difference just like what Mrs Daniels did for that man. Let’s use our “kindness power” every day.

D. My Kind English Teacher—Mrs Daniels

What if we stopped to ask “What if?” whenever we faced any challenge? What if we challenged the rules and started thinking outside the box?
Thinking outside the box is a metaphor(隐喻) often used to describe different or creative thinking. It shows up in simple things like using paper to make crafts—instead of just writing on it, for example.
According to Fast Company, the term came into use in the 1970s. Management consultants(顾问) would give clients(客户) a 9-dot puzzle and ask them to connect the dots with only 4 lines. Naturally, this task required some lateral thinking(跨界
思维), so the consultants would encourage their clients to “think outside the box”. In this case, to find a solution, they needed to look beyond the box and create something else.
Thinking outside the box helps you solve challenging problems. It allows you to look beyond a narrow view to find answers that would not exist otherwise. Thinking outside the box also forces you to widen your horizons. And when you widen your horizons, you become aware of opportunities.
Thinking small keeps us small. When we stay within our comfort zone, taking risks, growing, and challenging the norm all seem much more frightening. To become an effective leader or a team member, think outside the box.
Whatever you do, think twice: first in the box, then outside the box. Outside-the-box thinking often breaks routines and may sound ridiculous(荒谬的). But without thinking outside the box, people like Thomas Edison and Isaac Newton, wouldn’t have changed the world in the way they did.
The writer starts the passage by _________.

What does the sentence “Thinking small keeps us small.” mean in Paragraph 5?

What’s the main purpose of the writer in writing this passage? A. To discuss unusual methods.

①During club activities, you’ll often find a group of young people at Gaoming Cangjiang Junior High School in Foshan, holding brightly coloured lion heads and dancing around. ④ While lion dance appears impressive (令人印象深刻的), it comes with its own set of challenges. “The lion head looks cool, but it’s really heavy. Holding it up for a while makes your arms sore, and you have to balance your movements,” 8th-grade student Zhou Zichun explained.
⑤Teamwork is the key to lion dance, beyond just the physical challenges. “Any lack(缺乏)of coordination(协调性)can affect the whole show,” said Chen, the lion head performer. “Everyone has to move to the same beat and stay together.”

Herman, a 15-year-old scientist, has enjoyed doing experiments since his childhood. He was a curious child who always wondered how things worked. At first, he simply mixed common liquids(液体) and waited to see the results. When he was seven, he received a science set. With the right tools and clear instructions, his experiments became more organised rather than simple guesses. He was so interested in doing experiments that he would try out his ideas whenever possible.
One day, he learnt that a piece of metal with a chemical cleaner could produce a lot of heat. When he tried the experiment himself at home, it got so hot that he almost caused a fire. After that, his parents watched him more closely and helped him set safer rules: test outside, wear glasses, write down each step and always stay safe. The careful watching didn’t stop him. Instead, it shaped his dream.
Later, Herman wanted to do something meaningful for people. In 2023, he decided to take part in a national science competition. His idea was to invent a kind of soap for people working in the sun. It would contain effective medicine to treat skin cancer. His invention received a lot of praise and he won the competition in the end. To improve the soap, he has spent much time doing experiments in a university lab.
His dream is to use his simple ideas to help those in need and make their everyday lives better. And he is determined (坚决的) to keep working for it.
No matter how old you are, you can make a difference. Even a teenager can be an inventor.

1~4 BDCD 5~8 BBCB 9~12 BABD
13~16 DCBA 17~20 DAEC
解析
根据短文第一段中“while others want to be invisible so no one can see them.”
根据短文第三段中“Every day, Mrs Daniels stayed with him after school. She spent extra time helping him read better.”
根据短文第一段中“a popular group of young people who are not only getting stronger and tougher, but also keeping Foshan's traditional culture alive”可知,学生们可以变得更强壮、更坚韧,同时也能传承佛山传统文化,因此①和④正确;根据短文第五段中“Teamwork is the key to lion dance... Everyone has to move to the same beat and stay together.”
根据短文第二段中“With many years of experience in teaching lion dance, he understands the importance of cultural heritage for young people. ‘I start by telling students the history of lion dance...’”
根据短文第四段中“The lion head looks cool, but it's really heavy. Holding it up for a while makes your arms sore, and you have to balance your movements.”
21—25 DBCBD 26—30 ABDBC
三、31. completely 32. to try 33. and 34. movements 35. amazing 36. her 37. of 38. have become

want to do sth.
