Teachers are ready to help
If you're unsure what to do.or are worried about anything, then you had better ask for help.Teachers are
probably the best people to turn to as they're experienced in helping new students. Some senior high schools afso have
a"friends system".If your school has this, then you will be paired with an older student. They will look out for you and
help you if you have any problems or questions.
All change
There are lots of differences between junior high school and senior high school. You'll have a homework diary
or a student planner. You will have your lessons with different teachers in different rooms. You will have homework
for different subjects on different days,so make sure you get organized.Make sure you have a copy of your school
timetable written down so you know which rooms your classes are in and on which days you will have your different
subjects.
Other points
If you've got an older brother or sister at the school, then ask them for advice.Be yourself! It sounds simple, but
people will know you much better if you just act naturalty.Having early nights makes a difference and you'll find it
easier to get up in the momning!

At thirteen,I was diagnosed (with kind of attention disorder. It made school difficult for me.When
everyone else in the class was focusing on tasks,I could not.
In my first literature class,Mrs.Smith asked us to read a story and then write on it,all within 45 minutes.I raised
my hand right away and said,"Mrs.Smith, you see,the doctor said I have attention problems.I might not be able to do
it”
She glanced down at me through her glasses,"You are not different from your classmates, young man."I tried,
but I didn't finish the reading when the bell rang.I had to take it home.
In the quietness of my bedroom, the story suddenly all became clear to me.It was about a blind person,Louis
Braille. He lived in a time when the blind couldn't get much education. But Louis didn't give up.Instead,he invented a
reading system of raised dots ()which opened up a whole new world of knowledge to the blind.
Wasn't I the "blind"in my class, being made to learn like the"sighted"students? My thoughts spilled out and
my pen started to dance.I completed the task within 40 minutes.Indeed,I was not different from others;I just needed a
quieter place. If Louis could find his way out of his problem, why should I ever give up?
I didn't expect anything when I handed in my paper to Mrs.Smith,so it was quite a surprise when it came back

Nowadays everybody seems to think that they know English. Many people speak it but few speak it really well.
Practice is necessary in speaking English well.
Reading is also one of the things that will help you to speak English better.Read whenever you can and
whatever you like!Read papers and Internet sites that you like in English every day. Then, you will see that the number
of known words is increasing and you are able to speak with more skills. Then you will have made the foundations and

Going to England or an English-speaking country is a good choice, but many people cannot afford it.If you
cannot go,reading and speaking with your friends will also help you to practise your English. However,I think it is
very good to visit some English-speaking country to see and test your knowledge in everyday life. You will understand
the everyday usage of the language in its natural environment. There your level of English is going to improve even
faster.Your ability to speak English is better.Nothing can match the excitement and happiness when a native speaker
tells you that your English is very good!
Finally,in order to speak English well, you must be persistent and do it every day.It is like playing the piano.
Pianists play it every day and so should you.Include English in your life and you will see where it is going Practice,

B.speaking English is fun and entertaining

D
Language learning begins with listening.Children are greatly different in the amount of listening they do
before they start speaking, and later starters are often long nisteners. Most children will "obey"spoken instructions
some time before they can speak, though the word"obey"is hardly accurate as a description of the eager and delighted
cooperation usually shown by the child. Before they can speak, many children will also ask questions by gesture and by
making questioning noises.
Any attempt to study the development from the noises babies make to their first spoken words leads to
considerable difficulties. It is agreed that they enjoy making noises, and that during the first few months one or two
noises sort themseives as particularly expressive as delight, pain, friendliness, and so on.But since these can't be said
to show the baby's intention to communicate, they can hardly be regarded as early forms of language. It is agreed, too,
that from about three months they play with sounds for enjoyment.and that by six months they are able to add new
words to their store. This self-imitation(模仿)leads on to deliberate(有意的)imitation of sounds made or words
spoken to them by other people. The problem then arises as to the point at which one can say that these imitations can
be considered as speech.
It is a problem we need to get out teeth into. The meaning of a word depends on what a particular person
means by it in a particular situation and it is clear that what a child means by a word will change as he gains more
experience of the world. Thus the use at seven months of"mama"as a greeting for his mother cannot be dismissed as a
meaningiess sound simply because he also uses it at other times for his father, his dog,or anything else he likes.Playful
and meaningless imitation of what other people say continues after the child has begun to speak for himself,I doubt,
however whether anything is gained when parents take advantage of this ability in an attempt to teach new sounds.
66.Before children start speaking.
A.they need equal amount of listening
B.they need different amounts of listening
C.they are all eager to cooperate with the adults by obeying spoken instructions
8/10
D.they can't understand and obey the adult's oral instructions
67.Children who start speaking late
A.may have problems with their listening
B.probably do not hear enough language spoken around them
C.usually pay close attention to what they hear
D.often take a long time in learning to listen properly
68:A baby's first noises are
A.an expression of his moods and feelings
B.an early form of language
C.a sign that he means to tell you something
D.an imitation of the speech of adults
69.The problem of deciding at what point a baby's imitations can be considered
as speech
A.is important because words have different meanings for different people
B.is not especially important because the changeover takes place gradually
C.is one that should be properly understood because the meaning of words changes with age
D.is one that should be completely ignored (because children's use of words is often meaningless
70.The speaker implies_
A.parents can never hope to teach their children new sounds
B.children no longer imitate people after they begin to speak
C.children who are good at imitating learn new words more quickly
D.even after they have learnt to speak, children still enjoy imitating

第一节阅读表达
阅读短文,按照题目要求用英语回答问题。
The students of Carlton Primary School are treated to an after-school program once a week to learn how to keep
healthy and get along with the community through playing sports.
Louise Larcombe was studying for a Master's in Public Health at the University of Melbourne when she started
looking for a way to help out the local community. She decided to join the Heart of Carlton program run by Sports
Without Borders in 2019.She is now in her third year of volunteering for the program. The program is designed to get
school kids to connect with their local community through sports.
It addresses a different theme each week for the children to learn about and discuss, such as a healthy diet, good
sportsmanship, and teamwork.Larcombe said it can be quite a challenge for her because a classroom-of kids can be
pretty wild after class, and they want to go play soccer instead of listening to her.
Larcombe found it easy to get involved because sports naturally attracted her and she wanted to understand the
9/10
effects of sports on a community directly."Sport is a cool platform for improving health.People get the physical
activity and it brings them together. It's a good platform for health messaging,"she said.Larcombe believes the Heart
of Carlton program is a great stepping stone for people to connect with the community.
Sports Without Borders has a good support network, where teachers are involved from the get-go,and parents
often lend their support.Meanwhile.it is also assisted by the R.E.Ross Trust and the Telco Together Foundation.
