3.6 Family ties - Presenting ideas & Reflection
【Teaching Objectives (aligned with core competencies)】
1. Language competence Students can present a family photo book in English with at least three photos, using expressions like "This photo shows...", "It brings back the memory of...", "We are always close to each other", and "Love always wins".
2. Cultural awareness Students cherish family traditions and loving moments, understand the meaning of family, and develop gratitude towards their family members.
3. Thinking quality Students select meaningful photos, organise their presentation with a clear outline (description, importance, meaning), and evaluate classmates' presentations politely.
4. Learning capacity Students learn to plan a presentation with an outline, practise before speaking, reflect on their own learning with a self-assessment checklist, and vote for the best works.
【Key and Difficult Points】
Key Points:
① Choose at least three family photos covering family activities, traditions and loving moments.
② Organise ideas with the outline: description of the photo, importance of the photo, and how it shows the meaning of family.
③ Present the family photo book to the class clearly and confidently, and give constructive comments on peers' work.
Difficult Points:
① Speak in fluent English without reading word by word during the presentation.
② Connect each photo to the theme of family with personal feelings rather than only describing what is in the picture.
③ Reflect honestly on their own learning progress using the reflection checklist.

Welcome Remarks
Hello, my wonderful students! Welcome to the last lesson of Unit 3. Can you believe it? In this unit we read "Silent love", learned possessive nouns, listened to Tina's hotline story, and read "Racing together". Today is the most exciting day: you will present your family photo books! Get your photos ready, take a deep breath, and let us share our family ties with the whole class!
Ⅰ. Lead-in — task review
First, let us review. What have we learned in this unit? Yes, you, please!
Students: "We learned words about family, possessive nouns like father's and Mum's, and stories about family love."
Teacher: "Excellent! And what is our big task today? Everyone together — make a family photo book! Let us remember the steps. Step one: choose photos. Step two: organise ideas with the outline. Step three: practise and present. Step four: vote for the best. Are you ready? Great! I can already feel the warm photos and stories waiting in your bags."
Ⅱ. Preparation
Now, let us prepare. Work in groups of four. Take out your photos. First, decide which photos to use: family activities, family traditions, or loving moments. You need at

least three. Then, use the outline on the board. For each photo, write down: What does it show? Why is it important? How does it help you understand the meaning of family? Useful tips on the board: "This photo shows...", "It is a very happy moment", "It brings back the memory of...", "We are always close to each other", "To me, ... is the language of love". You have five minutes to prepare. Go!
(The teacher walks around, helping groups arrange their photos and sentences.)
Teacher: "Group One, I see your Spring Festival dinner photo — wonderful! Don't forget to say why it is important. Group Three, your hiking photo is lovely; remember to describe how you felt. Group Two, let me hear your practice... Good start! Add one sentence about how the photo warms your heart."
Teacher: "Before you present, remember three tips: look at your friends, speak slowly, and smile. A presenter who smiles makes the audience smile too. You have one more minute to practise together. Go!"
Ⅲ. Presentation
Time to present! Each group sends one speaker. Let us welcome Group One first!
Group One speaker: "Good morning everyone. This is our family photo book. This photo shows my whole family having dinner at the Spring Festival. It is a very happy moment. It brings back the memory of my grandmother's cooking. My second photo shows my parents helping me with homework. It is important because they always support me. My third photo shows us walking in the park. To me, being together is the language of love. Thank you!"
Teacher: "Wow! That was a brilliant presentation. You described three photos, used the outline, and ended beautifully with the language of love. Class, what do you think? Yes, you!"
Students: "I like her Spring Festival dinner photo. It is warm, and she spoke very clearly."
Teacher: "Great comment! Let us welcome Group Three!"
Group Three speaker: "Hi everyone. Our photo book is about my family's sports time. This photo shows my father and me climbing a hill. It brings back the memory of our first hike together. The second photo shows my mother and me running. It is important because she always encourages me. The third photo shows my brother pushing my bike. We are always close to each other. Love always wins in my family. Thank you!"
Teacher: "Fantastic! You even used 'love always wins' from our reading. Your voice was confident and your photos tell a real story. Big round of applause! Group Five, please!"
Group Five speaker: "Our book is about my grandparents. This photo shows my grandfather telling me stories. It is a touching moment. It warms my heart. The second photo shows my grandmother cooking dumplings with me. Now I know that family means love and help. Thank you!"
Teacher: "So moving! You understood the meaning of family through your grandparents' love. Give yourselves a big hand! Group Two, please!"
Group Two speaker: "Hello everyone. This photo book is about my little sister. The first photo shows us flying kites in spring. It is a very happy moment. It brings back the memory of her first kite. The second photo shows me reading to her before bed. It is
