Recently, a Chinese film named Dear You has become an unexpected box office hit. Filmed almost completely in the Chaoshan dialect (方言), this film has touched the hearts of millions.
The grandmother, Shurou, waited for her husband Musheng for many years after he went to Southeast Asia. Her grandson Xiaowei traveled to Thailand hoping to find his missing grandpa. But the truth was that Musheng had died long ago.
So who wrote loving letters and sent the money after his grandpa’s death? A woman named Nanzhi. She was Musheng’s trusted friend in Thailand. Knowing that Shurou and her three children would have a difficult life without support, Nanzhi decided to help them. For nearly 20 years, she wrote letters and sent money in Musheng’s name and asked for nothing in return. She never let anyone know the truth about Musheng’s death.
In history, Chinese workers in Southeast Asia sent letters to their families left behind. These letters together with money are called Qiaopi (侨批). They offered money as well as love and care. In 2013, they were added to UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register (《世界记忆名录》).

Mike, a 12-year-old boy, lived in a hillside village. His neighbouring village was famous because of a great discovery there. In 2003, paleontologists (古生物学家) found the bones of the largest dinosaur in Europe in a field near his neighbouring village.
Mike liked dinosaurs more than anything else in the world. He also believed that there was an amazing dinosaur bone under the ground of his own village. His dream was to be the first person to find it.
One summer morning, Mike was exploring in a field near a river. His two friends Fern and Pepe were running towards him with a colourful kite. Mike enjoyed playing with his friends and began to fly the kite with them. As he ran, he fell to the ground. “I caught my left foot on this grey object”, he said.
“A rock,” said Fern. Mike looked at it carefully. “It can’t be a rock,” he said excitedly.
“Let me pull it out,” said Pepe. “No,” said Mike. “It’s better to leave the object right here.”
The boys ran to school to tell their teacher. The teacher called the paleontologists’ office. The next day, a paleontologist came to examine (查验) the object. “It could be a dinosaur bone,” he said. Soon, many paleontologists came and more bones were found. They turned out to come from a new kind of dinosaur.

Long ago in ancient China, there was a story about the invention of silk. People believed that silk was invented by Leizu, the wife of the Yellow Emperor. She found a way to make cocoons (蚕茧) into soft and strong cloth. The cloth was so valuable that it was called “China’s Gold”. For centuries, the Chinese kept the secret of making silk.
However, things changed during the Han Dynasty. A brave officer named Zhang Qian travelled west to Central Asia and introduced silk there. Over time, the trade road connecting China and Europe became famous as the Silk Road.
The Silk Road was a busy highway for traders (商人) crossing deserts and mountains. From China, traders sold silk and tea. In return, they brought back spices (香料), gold and silver from the West. But it was not just about money. People also shared ideas and technologies. For example, Chinese papermaking spread to the West, while new knowledge of maths and science arrived in China.
Most importantly, different cultures learned from each other. Art, music, and language were shared along the road. In the Dunhuang Grottoes, you can see special art that mixes Eastern and Western styles. It is something you cannot see anywhere else.
The story of the Silk Road teaches us how people from faraway lands became friends. Today, we remember it as a great example of cooperation. It shows that by respecting each other’s traditions, different cultures can work together to create amazing things.
44. Who invented silk in ancient China?
A. Leizu. B. The kings. C. Zhang Qian. D. The Yellow Emperor.
45. What was spread from China to the West according to Paragraph 3?

③Traders from China and the West exchanged things.
④The Chinese kept the secret of making silk.
A. ①→④→③→② B. ①→③→④→② C. ④→①→③→② D. ④→③→②→①
47. What does the story of the Silk Road mainly tell us?
A. The change of world trade. B. The introduction of silk.
C. The influence of technology in history. D. The importance of cultural communication.

【答案】例文
Recently, our school students’ union did a survey on where students spend most of their pocket money every month. Here are the results.
Fifty percent of the students spend their pocket money on games and cartoons, while forty percent spend it on snacks and drinks. Shockingly, merely ten percent use their money for books and study.
In my opinion, this is not a good situation. We should spend our pocket money more wisely. First, we can save some money for future use. Second, we can buy more useful books because they can help us get more knowledge. Third, we should also cut down on snacks and games. This way, we can save money and stay healthy. Let’s use our pocket money wisely!
