Passage1(课内同源:石头缝里的一丛竹)
Zheng Banqiao, the Qing dynasty painter, was famous for three things: orchids, rocks and bamboo. His best-known poem, Bamboo in the Rock, is only four lines long, yet it has been quoted by students for three hundred years. / The picture is simple. Bamboo — a plant that usually grows tall and soft in warm valleys — is here growing straight out of a cracked rock on a bare mountain. Its roots bite into the stone; it has tasted poverty of soil since the day it sprouted. / Then come the winds and rains of all four seasons, thousands of blows from every direction. The poem's answer to the storm is one of the calmest lines in Chinese literature: still the bamboo stands firm, whatever winds blow from east, west, south or north. / Readers have always understood the bamboo as a person. Zheng himself knew hardship: he was poor in his youth, passed the imperial examinations late, and lost positions for defending ordinary people. He painted bamboo because bamboo bends but does not break. / In a unit about finding balance in life, the poem teaches the first half of the balance: when circumstances are hard, grip your rock and stand. The second half comes from another poem, written by a Russian — and it teaches what to do after the storm has passed.

Passage2(课外同源:乡村里写下的安慰)
In 1825, the Russian poet Alexander Pushkin was living in enforced isolation in his family's country house, forbidden to travel to the capital. He was twenty-six, cut off from friends, and the future looked like a locked door. / During that summer he wrote a short poem for the daughter of a neighbour, a teenage girl named Olenina. It was not a love poem. It was a piece of advice, folded into eight lines: if by life you were deceived, do not be impatient and gloomy; stay calm on the day of sadness, and believe: the day of joy will come. / The poem says something surprising next. The heart, it says, likes to live in the future; the present is always dreary — and all of it is fleeting, all of it will pass. And what passes, Pushkin adds in the famous last line, will become dear to us. / He could not have known how widely those words would travel. A century later, schoolchildren in dozens of countries were reciting them in translation; generations of Chinese students have met the poem in textbooks, usually during their hardest exam years. / Pushkin himself lived to see worse days than 1825 — exile, debts, and a duel that ended his life at thirty-seven. But the advice has outlived every one of his troubles. It does not promise that life will be kind. It only promises that gloom is temporary — and that memory, given time, softens even the days we thought we could not survive.

任务四范文:The line that gives me strength comes from Bamboo in the Rock: after thousands of blows, the bamboo still stands firm, whatever winds blow. I first needed the line in Grade Seven, when I failed the mid-term maths exam by a large margin. For a week I could not open my exercise book at all, and I kept telling myself that I was simply not a maths person. My grandmother, who finished only primary school, copied the four lines of the poem onto a card and put it on my desk. She said the bamboo in the picture had worse soil than I did. Slowly I cheered up, made a plan, and asked questions until the hard chapters made sense. Two years later the card is still there, a little yellow at the edges. Every time life blows hard, I remember that roots can bite into rock, and that standing firm is itself a kind of victory.
