拓展提高(课内同源 + 课外同源)
Passage1(课内同源:说祝贺的三种方式)
There is an art to saying congratulations well. In Lily's class, the oral practice last week was built around three levels of it. / The first level is the short one. Well done! Congratulations! You made it! These are the everyday handshakes of English, useful in the playground between two classes. / The second level is the specific one. It names the thing: congratulations on breaking the school record; well done on coming first in the relay. A sentence with a detail in it always sounds warmer than a single word, because it shows you really watched. / The third level is the future-facing one. After the praise comes a push: keep up the good work; I'm sure you will do even better next time. It turns congratulations into encouragement. / The teacher also warned them about the wrong side of the street. When a friend loses, do not say bad luck and walk away. Ask how the race felt, praise one thing that went well, and promise to train together. / By the end of the lesson, the class had a new game: whenever anyone passed a test, three different classmates had to congratulate them in three different ways. The winners, it turned out, were not always the ones holding the medals.

Passage2(课外同源:里约赛道上的两个女孩)
In a 5000-metre heat at the Rio Olympics in 2016, New Zealand's Nikki Hamblin and America's Abbey D'Agostino were running shoulder to shoulder when their feet tangled. Both fell onto the track in front of forty thousand people. / Hamblin sat on the ground, stunned. It was D'Agostino, the one hurt more badly, who got up first — and instead of running on, she stopped, pulled Hamblin to her feet, and said: get up, we have to finish this. / A few hundred metres later the story turned again. D'Agostino's knee, injured in the fall, gave way and she went down once more. This time Hamblin slowed, waited and encouraged her, and the two of them ran the last laps together. / They finished last and second-to-last, more than a minute behind the leaders. D'Agostino had torn a ligament; her Olympics were over. / A few days later, the referees did something they rarely do: they advanced both women to the final, in case they could run it. And the international fair play committee gave the pair its annual award, sharing it between them. / When journalists asked D'Agostino why she had stopped, she said that although everyone wants to win, that moment on the track was bigger than the race. Years later, both runners still call each other friends.
