Among my earliest memories are her words, “Go right up and look your fears in the face — and then do something!” To help me overcome my fear of the dark, Mother invented a game for us to play. She ran around the house in one direction, I in the other. At the far corner, I would run straight into her comforting arms. Soon, I was joyfully facing the dark alone for as long as my parents would let me stay outdoors. Her lesson of facing fear bravely has stayed with me ever since. I remember clearly my first job of taking pictures for an airline (航空公司) over the Blue Ridge Mountains in North Carolina. We were in a wilderness where clouds hid the highest mountains, driving the pilot to direct the way by guess. Turbulence (湍流) increased by the moment, throwing the plane about like a chip in the sea. It was a struggle just to keep my heavy camera, which I was holding tightly, from flying up and hitting me in the face. But my real worry was the growing fear that we would not get out alive. Then Mother’s advice came to mind. “Get your work done,” I said seriously to myself. Below us, Lake Lure was occasionally visible, then hiding itself in clouds. Perhaps my pictures would be made unclear beyond recognition by the shaking camera. However, I stretched as far out as my ropes would allow and, for the next several minutes, whenever the plane broke through into a clearing I took a shot. I became so completely lost in the beauty that by the time we flew out of the mountains I was truly sorry we had to go. At that moment, I fully understood Mother’s words: “Go right up and look your fears in the face — and then do something!” Her timeless wisdom saw me through this dangerous situation. 24. Why did the author recall (回想,回忆) his childhood experience? A. To state his fear of dark. B. To show his mother’s wisdom. C. To establish his mother’s authority. D. To stress his efforts to run fast. 25. What forced the pilot to guess the way? A. The increasing turbulence. B. The frozen wilderness. C. The camera hitting the face. D. The clouds covering mountaintops. 26. Why did the author feel sorry when leaving the mountains? A. He wanted to stay with the pilot longer. B. The weather became too bad. C. He was deeply attracted by the scenery. D. The mountains became very clear. 27. Which of the following best describes his mother? A. Brave and strict. B. Wise and inspiring. C. Caring and humorous. D. Confident and outgoing. C Over the past decade or two, there have been some interesting changes in the features of the teenagers. The psychologist Jean Twenge of San Diego State University notes that teens are growing up more slowly in many aspects, compared with teens of the same age only 20 years ago. A typical 17 or 18-year-old teen in the US, for example, is now less likely to have tried alcohol or acquired a driver’s license. A 13 or 14-year-old teen is less likely to have a job. Twenge points out a number of reasons why growing up is slowing down. There’s little doubt that technology and the Internet have played a major role, meaning more interaction with peers (同龄人) happens online and in the home, where experimentation and trouble are perhaps less likely. For this reason, she calls this latest group of young people the “iGen” generation and has written a book all about their characteristics. But she also points out that some of these trends were already beginning before the online culture of the 21st century, and so the Internet can’t be totally blamed. Her explanation is that teens behave differently greatly depending on how antagonistic and unforgiving their local environment feels to them. In tougher times in history, teens were forced to take a “fast life strategy”, growing up faster, giving birth earlier and focusing on basic needs. Now life in the West is generally more forgiving (宽容的), and families are wealthier — at least on average — so it’s possible for teens to take a “slow life strategy”, delaying the change to more adult behaviors. “At times and places where people live longer, health services are better, and education takes longer to finish. People usually make the choice to have fewer children and bring them up more carefully,” Twenge explains. So, what will this mean for our ideas about teenagers if these trends continue? It might suggest that the 20th-century idea of a teenage rebelling (叛逆) without a cause is becoming no longer useful. 28. What may less likely happen to today’s teens according to the text? A. Shopping online. B. Having a job. C. Having parties. D. Making e-pals. 29. What does the underlined word “antagonistic” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Unfamiliar. B. Unrealistic. C. Unusual. D. Unfriendly. 30. What has mainly resulted in teenagers’ growing up more slowly in Twenge’s opinion? A. Cosy (舒适的) living environment. B. The Internet. C. Heavier study burden. D. More interaction with peers. 31. What does the author think of the 20th-century idea about teenage rebels? A. Practical. B. Ideal. (理想的) C. Informal. D. Meaningless. 第二节(共 5 小题;每小题 2.5 分,满分 12.5 分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Building positive family relationships with teenagers It’s the common daily moments families share — like chatting over breakfast, watching a show together, or a quick bedtime check-in — that build, strengthen, and develop trusting, warm relationships with teenagers. 32 * Show love and appreciation. 33 . They have both a new desire for independence and a 55 (continue) need for their parents’ love and support. They feel ready to be more responsible and make decisions on their own. 56 (fortunate),their parents do not always agree. All of this can lead to 57 breakdown in their relationship. In my first year, I often felt a strong sense of 62 before every exam. My parents were deeply 63 about my poor grades, but their worry only added to my pressure. Whenever test results came out, I would have a heated 64 with myself, asking whether I had studied hard enough. Later I came to realize that worrying too much had made no 65 to my progress at all, and it only wasted my time. It took me a long time before I finally 66 and began to face my problems in a positive way. Later, I 67 by the school English club and decided to join it. There I met many friends who shared the same interest in learning English. We often discussed how to deal with the 68 tasks in English study, such as reading long passages, remembering new words and writing short compositions. With their help, I gradually built up my confidence. Through hard work, my English scores 69 from 80 to 115 within one semester, which surprised both my parents and me. Looking back, I realized that my real problem 70 my study methods rather than my ability. Now I am 71 every new day of senior high school life, because I know that challenges are exactly what make us stronger and better. THE FACE-DOWN GENERATION If you’re reading this, you were probably born in the 2000s. The oh-ohs. The 21st century. That would make you young, creative, connected, global, and no doubt smart. Maybe good-looking, too. Right? But what do other people think about your generation? Some adults worry that you’re more interested in the screen in front of you than the world around you. They think of you as the "face-down generation" because you use your phone so much and they wonder how you will deal with school, friends, and family. Are today's teenagers too busy texting and taking selfies to become successful in real life—or "IRL", as you would say? Other adults worry that today's youth are spoilt (宠坏的) and don't want to face the challenges of adult life. Many children born in the 1990s and 2000s were raised by "helicopter parents" who were always there to guide and help them with a busy schedule filled with homework and extra-curricular activities such as dancing, drawing, or sports. With parents who do everything for them, today's youth seem to prefer to live like teenagers even when they are in their 20s or 30s. Does the face-down generation need a heads-up? Well, probably not. The fact is that many of today's teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. They also seem to be enthusiastic (热情的) and willing to become leaders. More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. There are also brave young people such as Malala Yousafzai, the teenager who won the 2014 Nobel Peace Prize for pushing girls' rights to go to school. So if you're one of the oh-ohs, there's reason to be hopeful about the future. Things are looking up for the face-down generation. Chances are that you will do GR8 (great) and LOL (laugh out loud). I. 根据文章内容,使用恰当的词完成下列表格,每空一词。(7分) THE FACE-DOWN GENERATION Situation Teens born in the 2000s are young, creative, connected, global, smart and possibly 72 . 73 • Some adults worry teens are more interested in the 74 in front of them than the world around them. • Other adults worry that teens are spoilt and unwilling to face the 75 of adult life. Positive facts • Today's teenagers are better 76 and more creative than past generations. • They are enthusiastic and willing to become 77 . • More young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. 78 There is reason to be hopeful about the future of the face-down generation. II. 结合文章内容,回答下面问题,写作词数应为50个左右。(8分) Do you agree with the adults' worries about today's "face-down generation"? Why or why not?(给出三个理由) 高一英语试卷第 12 页 (共 12 页) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 2026~2027学年第一学期第一次学情检测 高一英语试卷答案 第一部分:听力 (共20小题;每小题1.5分,满分30分) 1-5 CCACC 6-10 CCBAC 11-15 ACBCB 16-20 CBCBC 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分40分) 21-23 BCD 24-27 BDCB 28-31 BDAD 32-36 FGEBC 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分45分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 37-41 CDABD 42-46 ADBCB 47-51 ACADC 第二节 语法填空(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 52.and 53.at 54.shooting 55.continued/continuous 56.Unfortunately 57.a 58.keeping 59.discussion 60.completely 61.that/which 第三节 选词填空(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分) 62. anxiety 63. concerned 64. argument 65. contribution/contributions 66. calmed down 67. was attracted 68. challenging 69. shot up 70. lay in 71. looking forward to 第四部分 写作 (共两节,满分35分) 第一节(满分20分) Dear John, I understand how frustrating it can be when you often argue with your parents and then fall into silence. It’s totally normal during adolescence, as both sides may have different perspectives, so don’t be too upset. Here are some suggestions. First, try to calm down and communicate with them patiently when conflicts arise, sharing your thoughts and listening to theirs. Second, understand their care behind strictness — they just want what’s best for you, even if their way feels harsh sometimes. Hope you can bridge the gap and get along well with your parents soon. Yours, Li Hua 第二节 阅读表达(满分15分) I. 表格填空(每空1分,共7分) 72 good-looking 73 Concerns / Worries 74 screen 75 challenges 76 educated 77 leaders 78 Conclusion / Summary II. 问答(共8分) I don't quite agree with the adults' worries. First, today's teenagers are better educated and more creative than past generations. Second, they are enthusiastic and willing to become leaders. Third, more young people than ever volunteer to help their communities. Therefore, the "face-down generation" deserves our hope rather than our doubt. 附: 录音原文 (Text 1) M: I saw some people throwing plastic bags on the street when walking my dog yesterday.
