拓展提高(课内同源 + 课外同源)
Passage1(课内同源:一张纸上的家族)
Our history project began with a single question: where did our family come from? / On a large sheet of paper, we drew a family tree. My name went at the bottom, with my parents above me, then four grandparents, then eight great-grandparents. Some names were missing. Nobody in the family could remember them. / Next to each name we wrote what we knew: a birthplace, a job, a date, a story. My great-grandfather, for example, was born in 1921 in a village near the Yellow River and moved south in 1948. We found his name in an old letter. / Then we started interviewing. My grandmother talked for an hour about her mother, who could read but never wrote a letter. We recorded her voice, and that recording became our most important source. / Our teacher told us that oral history is not less true than written history; it is simply different. Written documents show what officials thought was important. Spoken memories show what a family thought was important. / Our tree is still incomplete, and it will stay that way. But every name on it now has a story.

In the 1840s, a disease destroyed the potato crop in Ireland. About a million people starved, and more than a million left the country. Many sailed to the United States. / From 1892 to 1954, most of them arrived at a small island in New York harbour called Ellis Island. Officials there recorded each newcomer's name, age, job and home town. They asked simple questions and wrote the answers in long lists. / Those lists are now a treasure for families. An American whose great-great-grandmother came from Cork can look up her ship, her age and the village she left. Sometimes a single misspelling explains why a family's surname changed. / Historians use the same lists for a different purpose. They can see how many people arrived in a certain year, where they settled, and what work they found. / About twelve million people passed through Ellis Island. Their names fill an archive that is open to anyone. / “A family tree is not only about names,” one archivist says. “It is about the decisions people made when they had almost nothing.”

任务四范文:I can trace my family back three generations in a small town near Suzhou. My grandparents were farmers, and they lived in a house with a courtyard and a well. In the 1980s, my parents left the town for a factory in the city, and they have lived there ever since. My generation has grown up in a flat, with a lift and no courtyard. The changes are easy to see: different houses, different jobs, different daily language. But some things have not changed, such as making rice cakes every spring. When I look at our family photos, I see three generations standing in three very different worlds, and still at the same table.
