Friendships are important during adolescence (青春期). Scientists find out that teen friendships help young people feel a sense of belonging (归属感). Moreover, these teen friendships can be amazingly good at helping teens to face difficult times.
We all know that spending time with good friends makes us happier. But scientists have put this feeling to the test, and the result shows that teen friendships are good for our mental (心理) health.
One study of more than 111,000 teenagers finds that those who have good friends have better mental health. The findings make it clear that teens with more friends have fewer bad feelings about themselves and feel a stronger sense of belonging.
A study of 108 high school students in Australia shows that strong friendship is helpful for teens to calm down after a difficult time, such as failing a test or losing a game. Also, a study from Australia’ s Murdoch and Griffith universities find that teens do better when they are with friends rather than with their family. Teens who are with friends reported lower levels of sadness and worry.
A new study in Child Development shows a relationship between teen friendships and good parenting skills. Scientists from the University of Virginia followed 184 teens for more than twenty years (age 13 into their mid-30s). Findings showed that teens who showed more love and care for their close friends turned into more careful parents.
“What we think is happening is that when you’ re a teenager, close friendships are an important ‘training ground’ for developing social skills and learning how to care for others.” Dr. Jessica A.Stern told Psychology Today.
1.The sentence “Friendships also help teens deal with everyday stress.” can be best put at the beginning of ________.
A.Paragraph 2 B.Paragraph 3 C.Paragraph 4 D.Paragraph 5
2.What can we learn from Dr. Jessica A.Stern’s words?
A.Teens are willing to care for friends. B.Teens are going to be careful parents.
C.Teen friendships help develop social skills. D.Teen friendships train people to be healthier.
3.The writer mainly wants ________.
A.to help keep our body and mind healthy
B.to tell us the importance of teen friendships
C.to have a study on how teenagers make friends
D.to advise teens to have as many friends as possible
【答案】1.C 2.C 3.B

2.细节理解题。根据文章第 6 段“close friendships are an important ‘training ground’ for developing social skills and learning how to care for others.”可推知,Dr. Jessica A. Stern 认为亲密友谊是发展社交技能的重要训练场。这与选项表述友谊帮助发展社交技能相符。

①Friends are very important in our lives. If you’re a quiet and shy person and want to know how to make friends, here’s some advice for you.
②Start with small things. If you are alone for years and have a feeling of loneliness, don’t be afraid of making friends with others. Always start with small steps. Begin communicating with one or two people to get comfortable in socializing. That way your life won’t be too busy and you’ll learn something about communication.
③Get along with people who have similar interests with you. If you communicate with a few people first, get to know them and try to find your common interests. For example, if both of you like soccer or basketball, then sports can be a good topic between you and your friend.
④Remember quality (质量) over quantity (数量). Remember, it’s always about having two or three good friendships instead of having ten unstable (不稳定) relationships. The more we care about quantity, the more tiring our lives will be. Try to make friends with those who help you in trouble.
⑤Keep the positives (积极心态) in your heart and never compare. Even if you can’t find your true friend in a few months or years, you should keep on. Always keep your experiences in the past to continue building your friendships. Also, never forget that every person is special in his/her ways. So, don’t compare one friend of yours with another. Find out their differences and show your full respect.
⑥If you follow the advice above, you are sure to make your true friends.

①When you’re trying to make friends, you’ll probably meet someone who just doesn’t like you, though you’ve never done anything to him or her. Well, what should you do? Here’s some advice.
②Gossip (流言蜚语) can make meeting new people difficult, especially when people hear something bad about you. It can prevent someone from getting to know you at all. When you’re in a situation like this, it feels bad. Instead of trying to win them over (说服), however, just be yourself. As time goes by, they will see that the gossip about you is wrong. Or they may choose to believe it. Don’t worry about it and move on by being friendly to the kind people.
③You’d think that your friend’s friends would also become your friends. But it doesn’t work that way. Sometimes people are happy with the friendships they have, and they aren’t interested in adding any more. If someone chooses not to be friends with you just because you’re new to the group, it’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with you or them.
④An even more difficult situation is when someone has met you and just doesn’t like you. Every joke you make is taken the wrong way. Every time you try to do something nice, they find fault (找茬儿). As much as it hurts, accept that not everyone is going to be your friend. Don’t take it personally. These things could happen to everyone. There are just some people you won’t like.
⑤In a word, if someone doesn’t want to be your friend, that’s okay. Don’t get angry with them because it’s their choice. Instead, give your time and attention to the people that are interested in being with you.
1.If people choose to believe the gossip about you, you should ________.
A.try to win them over B.let them know the truth
C.not worry about it and move on D.find out where the gossip comes from
2.Why don’t your friend’s friends want to be your friends sometimes?
A.Because they think it’s a waste of time making new friends.
B.Because they aren’t interested in adding any more.
C.Because they worry that a new friend will influence their old friendship.
D.Because they share no common interests with new friends.
3.Which is the best way to divide (分割) the passage?
A.①//②③④//⑤ B.①//②③//④⑤ C.①//②③④⑤ D.①②//③④//⑤
4.The passage mainly wants to tell us ________.
A.how to make new friends B.how to have a talk with others
C.how to be popular among friends D.what to do when you’re not liked by others
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.D
【导语】本文主要探讨了交友过程中遇到他人不喜欢自己时的几种情况及应对建议,核心结论是不要强求,把时间留给感兴趣的人。
1.细节理解题。文章第②段提到“Or they may choose to believe it. Don’t worry about it and move on by being friendly to the kind people.”可直接得出答案C,面对相信流言的人不应担心而应继续前行。
2.细节理解题。文章第③段提到“Sometimes people are happy with the friendships they have, and they aren’t interested in adding any more.”
文章第①段提到“Well, what should you do? Here’s some advice.”及全文内容可知文章主要想告诉我们当不被别人喜欢时应该怎么做。故选D。
①“A friend in need is a friend indeed.” Friends are important to us. Friends help us get through hard times. Friends also influence us a lot. Let’s enjoy two poems about friendship.
②To Wang Lun
I, Li Bai, sit aboard a ship about to go.
When suddenly onshore your farewell songs overflow.
However deep the Lake of Peach Blossoms (桃花) may be.
It is not so deep, Wang Lun!
As your love for me.
③A Time to Talk (By Robert Frost)
When a friend calls to me from the road,
And slows his horse to a meaning walk,
I don’t stand still and look around.
On all the hills I haven’t hoed (锄地),
And shout from where I am, what is it?
No, not as there is a time to talk.
I push my hoe in the ground,
Blade (锄头)—end up and five feet tall,
And I go up to the stonewall,
For a friendly visit.
④Both poems are famous in their cultures, but they tell different stories. Li Bai described the scene (场景) of his friend seeing him off. US poet Robert Frost wrote about a friend’s visit when he was working. Li made a comparison. His poem shows the friendship between him and his friend is deeper than the deep water. Frost’s poem, on the other hand, tells the readers that we should stop what we are doing to talk with our friends. It tells us that nothing should get in the way of spending time with friends. The language is simple but sincere (真挚的).
1.What scene did Li Bai describe in the poem?
A.Ships on the lake. B.Peach Blossoms.
C.Wang Lun seeing him off. D.Songs sung by Wang Lun.
2.What does the underlined “It” refer to?
A.The ship. B.The lake of Peach Blossoms.
C.Love. D.Li Bai.
3.What is the main idea of the last paragraph?
A.The end of the friendship. B.The writers of the poems.
C.The comparison of people. D.The analysis (分析) of the poems.
4.The structure (结构) of the text is ________.
A. B. C. D.
最后一段提到了李白描绘的场景:“Li Bai described the scene (场景) of his friend seeing him off.”,李白在诗中描述的是汪伦为他送行的场景。
2.词句猜测题。“To Wang Lun”一诗提到:“However deep the Lake of Peach Blossoms (桃花) may be. It is not so deep, Wang Lun! As your love for me.”,意思是“桃花潭水深千尺,不及汪伦送我情。”因此划线词“It”指代“桃花潭”。
3.主旨大意题。通读最后一段尤其是“Both poems are famous in their cultures, but they tell different stories.”,该段主要围绕两首诗的内容、情景展开分析。
4.篇章结构题。文章第一段总起,点明朋友的重要性;②③分别呈现两首诗歌的内容,属于并列的分述部分;最后一段对两首诗进行总结分析。因此全文为“总——分——总”结构,对应选项C的结构图示。
On Oct 18, Waverly Middle School held its yearly Mix It Up at Lunch Day. The school invited students from different backgrounds (背景) to sit together and talk.
Mix It Up at Lunch Day is a national event. It usually takes place in the fall during National Bullying Prevention Month. Students are asked to move out of their comfort zones (舒适区) and connect with someone new over lunch. It’s a simple activity for all students. “The idea behind it is simple: Students sit with those they don’t usually talk to to break stereotypes (刻板印象) and meet new people,” said Ivana Nicole Moreno, a 14-year-old who took part in the event at her school last year.
Schools often prepare posters before the day. Moreno remembers how her school used color cards to mix up students at different tables. She ended up next to a girl she often saw but never talked to. “I thought she was too serious,” Moreno said. But after they talked, the girl shared her love for designing clothes. Moreno said she enjoyed decorating them. By the end of lunch, they were drawing clothing ideas on napkins (纸巾). “We started a tiny after-school fashion club,” said Moreno. “Mix It Up at Lunch Day gave me a friend I didn’t know I needed.”
1.In which season is the Mix It Up at Lunch Day usually held?
A.Spring. B.Summer. C.Autumn. D.Winter.
2.What might Moreno think of the Mix It Up at Lunch Day?
A.Serious but creative. B.Difficult but reasonable (合理的).
C.Tiring but enjoyable. D.Surprising but meaningful.

A.To learn new skills. B.To improve communication.

A.To share a heartwarming story.
B.To introduce a personal experience.

“I don’t want to join the singing contest (比赛),” Leo told his best friend Tom one afternoon. “There will be too many people watching me. My voice is not good enough, and I will forget the words.”
Leo was a shy boy. He was afraid of speaking in front of others. But Tom knew that Leo had a beautiful voice, because he often heard Leo singing on the playground.
“Your voice is wonderful,” Tom said. “You sing much better than most of us. Why not have a try? I will be there with you.”
But Leo shook his head. Tom didn’t give up. Every day after school, he asked Leo to sing for him in the empty music room. Little by little, Leo felt less nervous.
A week later, Tom encouraged Leo to sign up for the school singing contest. “Believe in yourself,” he said. “You are more ready than you think.”
On the day of the contest, Leo’s hands were cold and his heart was beating fast. When he walked onto the stage, he saw Tom smiling at him in the first row. Tom nodded to him, as if to say, “You can do it!”
Leo took a deep breath and began to sing. At first his voice was low, but soon it filled the whole hall. The students listened quietly, and then they started to cheer for him.
When the contest was over, the head teacher announced the results. Leo won the first prize! He couldn’t believe his ears.
“Thank you, Tom,” Leo said with tears in his eyes. “Without you, I would never stand on the stage.”
Tom smiled. “That’s what friends are for. A true friend always believes in you, even when you don’t believe in yourself.”
From then on, Leo was no longer the shy boy. He took an active part in school activities and made a lot of new friends.
Sometimes a friend’s encouragement is all we need to find the courage inside us.
1.Why didn’t Leo want to join the singing contest at first?

B.Because he was too busy with his schoolwork.
C.Because his voice was really terrible.
D.Because Tom asked him to sing alone.
2.What did Tom do to help Leo?
A.He signed up for the contest instead of Leo.
B.He sang with Leo on the stage.
C.He asked Leo to sing for him every day after school.
D.He asked the teacher to change the contest.

Hey, I’m Jack. I’m a 13-year-old boy from Australia. Our school has surfing classes. Surfing is fun. But not everyone can do it. Today is Wednesday, so we have the surfing class tomorrow morning. I study it for a long time. Now, I am good at it. Can you see the man in the picture? He is my teacher, Mr Green.

①How many languages do you know? Have you ever been unable to learn about something because you speak only English? Do not feel limited (受限的) because English is a great foundation (基础) for learning Swedish. Learning a bit of Swedish will help you discover more about Sweden’s rich culture, fascinating history and beautiful land.
②Many words sound the same in Swedish and English. Even without a lesson, you already know several Swedish words. For example,“man” and“person” are the same in both languages. Not only are there many similar words, but some words are so close that you can know them at once. For example, “fish” in Swedish is only a one-letter change to “fisk”. “Room” is an easy change to “rum”.
③The similarities between English and Swedish go deeper than just words that look alike. English grammar and Swedish grammar are also very similar, which is helpful when you are using verbs. Swedish also uses the Roman alphabet (字母表), so you already know the Swedish ABCs. The only difference is three more letters—a,ą,ṍ— found at the end of the Swedish alphabet.
④Swedes are not very dramatic, so you will not hear a Swede saying something like “How sad you missed the bus!” or “That test was a killer.” Also, keep your hands to yourself because body language is uncommon.
⑤Usually, it is easy for beginners to be understood even if they mispronounce words, and you will be learning a language that is a stepping-stone toward understanding a beautiful culture and land.
1.How many letters are there in the Swedish alphabet?

c Passengers joke how sad they missed the bus.
d Students make fun of the bad results of their math test.
A.abc B.bcd C.acd D.abd
3.What can we know from the passage?
A.Swedish is easier to learn than English.
B.A number of Swedish words are pronounced the same.

The Joy of Learning: More Than Just Studying
When students talk about learning, some may think of difficult exams or endless homework. But learning can be joyful — its fun comes from finding new things and feeling proud of small wins.
Take Nick, an eighth-grader, as an example. He used to dislike history. He thought memorizing (记忆) dates was boring. Then his teacher asked the class to act out short history stories. Nick played a great emperor (皇帝) from the past. To do well, he read more about the emperor’s life and even made a simple costume. On performance day, his classmates loved his act. Now, Nick looks for history books in his free time — he finds joy in knowing more about the past.
Learning also lets us enjoy small surprises. When you finally understand a hard math problem, or when you use a new English word to talk to your friend, that happy feeling is the joy of learning. It’s not about getting perfect grades; it’s about growing little by little.
So next time you sit down to study, try to find the fun in it. Learning is a journey, and every step can bring joy.
1.Why did Nick dislike history before?
A.He couldn’t find history books. B.His history teacher was too strict.
C.He thought memorizing dates was boring. D.He didn’t like acting in stories.
2.How did Nick’s idea about history change?
A.He started to hate it more after the performance.
B.He began to enjoy it by acting out a history story.
C.He stopped learning history in his free time.
D.He only liked history exams.
3.What is the joy of learning according to the passage?
A.Getting perfect grades every time.
B.Memorizing more facts than classmates.
C.Finishing homework quickly.
D.Finding new things and feeling proud of small wins.
4.What can we learn from the passage?
A.Learning is only for getting good scores. B.We can find joy in every step of learning.
C.History is the most interesting subject. D.Learning is always easy and fun.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.D 4.B

Do you think studying is a little boring? But when you watch someone else study, do you want to join them? You’re not the only one. “Study with Me” is a new way you can try. The reason is simple: watching others study makes us want to do the same.
“Study with Me” is a kind of live broadcast (现场直播) on the Internet. Usually, it shows a person studying. Sometimes it’s quiet, and sometimes there is soft music. It makes viewers feel like they have a study partner. It also lets people focus together, share the same experience, and feel part of a group. Studying together can make learning more fun. That’s why these study broadcasts are getting more popular. More and more students around the world are interested in them.
So why does watching someone else study make us want to study too? Scientists say it’s a natural habit for humans. We often copy the things people around us do. This is called mimicry (模仿). When we watch someone study, we may copy how they take notes, use the same study tools, or even take breaks at the same time. Also, we all need support from others. The people on the screen are like our “secret study partners”. When we see them working hard, we feel like we’re on a team. This encourages us not to give up when tasks are hard.
“Study with Me” can help you, but there are some things to remember. First, before you join an online study group, set clear study goals. This helps you focus on your own work. Second, don’t depend on it too much. Sometimes you need to learn by yourself. Finally, try to study with people you can trust. They should have a good, organized study plan.
With the development of AI, ways of learning are always changing. They bring us new and exciting learning experiences. “Study with Me” is a great example. It helps people work closely together and encourages students to enjoy their learning journey—with focus, fun, and friendship.
1.What is a “Study with Me” broadcast?
A.A TV show about school life. B.An online video of a person studying.
C.A radio program with soft music. D.A book that teaches how to study.
2.What might happen when you watch a “Study with Me” broadcast?
A.You will learn the best way to take notes.
B.You might feel like you are part of a group.
C.You will never need to study by yourself again.
D.The person on the screen will become your real friend.
3.It can be inferred (推测) from Paragraph 3 that “secret study partners” ______.
A.are close friends who often meet each other in the real world
B.push viewers to keep going when they meet difficulties
C.take notes and use the same tools as their viewers do
D.ask viewers to talk with them about learning
4.What does the writer think of the future of learning at the end of the passage?
A.It is difficult and challenging. B.It focuses only on AI teachers.
C.It is creative and keeps developing. D.It is less fun and more serious.
【答案】1.B 2.B 3.B 4.C

For most of us, summer is not so pleasant to be in a place where air conditioning is not easy to get.
But for those who like doing it yourself (DIY), it’s not the same. A young man from Bangladesh designed an air conditioning (调节) system called the Eco Cooler. It does not need power, and is made of the world’s most common waste—plastic bottles.
The Eco Cooler is simple to build. First, to fix it, you should take away a window and replace it with the window. Second, you should cut a board into the size of a window and cut some bottles—neck sized holes onto the board. Then, you have to put the bottlenecks, cut from the plastic bottles, into the holes. The next step is to fix the design onto the window frame (框架) with the wider side facing outwards. And this is it.
The Eco Cooler then works by catching the winds and sending them inside the building. It can reduce the temperature of a room by as much as 5°C—a big difference.
This idea was to show the young man’s Eco Cooler to more people. With volunteers, he helped local people build and fix the units, and taught them how to make it by themselves.
The Eco Cooler can surely make a big difference.

If you want to become a fluent (流利的) English speaker, you should take some advice: There are four skills in learning English. They are reading, listening, speaking, and writing. The most important thing you must remember is that if you want to improve your speaking and writing skills, you should first master the skills of reading and listening.
Read as much as you can. But your reading must be active. It means that you must think about the meaning of the sentence, the meanings of the unfamiliar (不熟悉的) words, etc. There is no need for you to pay much attention to grammar or try to understand all the unfamiliar words you come across, but the fact that you see them for the first time and recognize them whenever you see them, for example, in other passages or books, is enough. It would be better to prepare a notebook so you can write down the important words or sentences in it.
As for listening, there are two choices: besides reading, you can listen every day for about 30 minutes. You can only pay attention to your reading and become skillful at your reading, then you can catch up on your listening. Since you have lots of inputs in your mind, you can easily guess what the speaker is going to say. This never means that you should not practice listening.
For listening, you can listen to cartoons or some movies that are specially made for English learners. Or if you are good at listening, you can listen to VOA or BBC programs every day. Again the thing to remember is being active in listening and taking some notes.
If you follow these pieces of advice, your speaking and writing will improve automatically (自动地), and you can be sure that with a little effort, they will become perfect.
1.According to the author, which should you improve first among the four skills?
A.Reading and listening B.Reading and writing
C.Listening and speaking D.Writing and speaking
2.The underlined phrase “come across” in Paragraph 2 can probably be replaced by “________”.
A.discover B.meet by chance C.look for D.find out
3.Which is not mentioned (提到) to practise listening?
A.English cartoons B.English movies
C.English music D.VOA
4.The author seems to agree with the view that________.
A.everyone should listen to VOA or BBC programs every day
B.you needn’t practice listening if you keep on reading every day
C.being good at reading is helpful in improving your listening
D.you should take notes of whatever you are hearing
5.The passage is mainly about how to________.
A.be better at English speaking and writing B.deal with new words in reading
C.read more English books D.choose reading materials
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.C 4.C 5.A

Do-it-yourself projects let you design your house, provide a way to save money, but even with step-by-step instructions, DIYs don’t always go to plan. Nearly 80% of homeowners make a mistake while doing DIY. Here are four of the biggest mistakes that homeowners often make.
Taking on too much
More than 40% of people find DIY projects more difficult and expensive than they thought. By taking on a task that needs more time or skills than you have, you may end up with a big mess and an unfinished project. “It’s important to think about why you want to DIY and what you’re hoping to get out of it,” said Bailey Carson, a home care expert. “If you’re doing it just to save money, you might need to think twice. Without the time, tools, and talent to do it correctly and safely, mistakes may cost you more in the long run than simply paying others to help from the beginning.”
______★______
A third of people used the wrong tool for a DIY project, which can make the job more difficult and less safe. Many tools are designed for special uses and materials, so if you use them for other tasks, you may get hurt. Always use the proper tools for each project, and make sure you know how to use them
Not safety first
DIY mistakes can not only be costly but also dangerous. Of the surveyed people who once made a big mistake during their DIY projects, 47% said that the mistake led to serious problems, while 44% started a fire or fell off a roof or ladder. Take your time and follow all safety rules when using tools. Wear dust masks, safety glasses, hearing protection or gloves to protect yourself.
Skipping important steps
Skipping a key step can ruin your whole DIY project and you might not realize it until much later. In the survey, 47% of people said that they had finished a DIY project before realizing it was done wrong. Read all instructions carefully ahead of time, and make sure you have the necessary skills to complete each step before you begin.
1.According to Paragraph 2, which people are suitable for DIY.
A.want to save money B.want to save time C.are skillful enough D.are careful enough
2.Which of the following should be put in “___★____”?
A.Using the wrong tools B.Using the special tools
C.Using the expensive tools D.Using the proper tools
3.Which is TRUE according to the passage?
A.Taking on too much is the biggest mistake while DIY.
B.DIY mistakes can be both expensive and dangerous.
C.We can skip some difficult steps to make DIY easier.
D.Follow the instructions, and people will make no mistakes in DIY.
4.The writer wrote this article to _________.
A.tell us DIY is very dangerous B.show DIY can help us save money
C.tell us the importance of DIY D.help us keep away from DIY mistakes

Good friends are important in our life. We know them and like them. We don’t need to be the same age as them. They can be older or younger. We can enjoy different things with our friends. Do you want to make good friends at your school? Do you want to be friends with your classmates? Read the suggestions (建议) below. They may help you.
If you meet someone new and he seems to want to play with you, saying hello first may help you to start the talk. Talk about yourself and ask questions. You can say something about yourself. Asking questions is also a way to get to know each other.
Ask a friend to do what you both like. Doing these things together is fun. It makes you happy. You can play games, read or go for walks together after class.
It’s important for you to help your friends when they have problems. You can do something for them to help them out. Although sometimes there is nothing you can do for them, you can still stay with them and be a good listener to make them feel cared about.
In a word, making good friends is not just about finding someone to play or share interests with. It’s also about understanding and supporting each other. By following these simple suggestions, you can start building strong friendships at school.

A.Twenty B.Twenty-three C.Twenty-six D.Twenty-nine
2.Which of the following can you seldom see or hear in Sweden?
a. People express thanks to those who have helped them.
b. Teachers hold students’ hands when talking to them.
c Passengers joke how sad they missed the bus.
d Students make fun of the bad results of their math test.
A.abc B.bcd C.acd D.abd
3.What can we know from the passage?
A.Swedish is easier to learn than English.
B.A number of Swedish words are pronounced the same.
C. Swedes are good at guessing the meanings of the words.
D.Good Swedish learners can understand Swedish culture better.
4.What’s the structure of the passage?
A.①/②③④⑤ B.①/②③④/⑤ C.①/②/③④⑤ D.①/②③/④⑤
Listening to Music While Studying
Do you like listening to music when you’re studying? A lot of students think that listening to their favourite songs helps them study better, so they listen to their loved music when they are revising (复习). But does it really make them learn more? And will it be different if they choose different kinds of music?
How to research
To answer these questions, teachers from Cardiff Metropolitan University recently started a study. They divided (分配) students into different groups:
☆ Group A: revised without music;
☆ Group B: revised to music without words;
☆ Group C: revised to music with words they liked;

A.To find out which kind of music students like best.
B.To help students choose their favourite songs for fun.
C.To find out whether listening to music affects (影响) studying.
D.To encourage students to listen to music while revising.
2.What can we learn about Group B from the passage?
A.They got the lowest scores (得分) among the four groups.
B.They revised with music that had words they liked.
C.They did better than Group A in the exam.
D.They scored higher than both Group C and Group D.
3.Which group got the most correct answers after the test?
A.Group A. B.Group B. C.Group C. D.Group D.

5.According to the study, what should students pay attention to in their study?
A.Music clubs. B.Sports games. C.Learning habits. D.After-school lessons
An old Chinese saying goes: “Practice makes perfect.” It means if you keep practising something again and again, you will become very good at it.
This old saying tells us a simple truth. No one can learn a new skill well in a short time. Many students think they can learn English well quickly. But in fact, good English needs lots of practice. You need to read, listen and speak every day.
The story of Wang Xizhi is a great example. He was a famous calligrapher in ancient China. He loved writing so much that he practised writing every day. He washed his writing brushes in the pond near his house. Slowly, the clean pond turned black. After years of hard practice, he became one of the greatest writers in history.
This saying is not only for study. It works for everything. If you want to play basketball well, you must practise shooting. If you want to play the piano well, you need to practise every day. Nothing can be done well without lots of practice.
So don’t give up easily. Keep practising, and you will make great progress.
1.What does the old saying “Practice makes perfect” mean?
A.We must be perfect from the start. B.Practising often helps us do things well.
C.Only perfect people need to practice. D.We can learn everything quickly.
2.What was Wang Xizhi good at?
A.Playing basketball. B.Playing the piano.
C.Writing calligraphy. D.Speaking English.
3.Why did the pond turn black?
A.Because Wang Xizhi put black ink into it.
B.Because Wang Xizhi washed his writing brushes there every day.
C.Because there was much black mud in the pond.
D.Because many people threw rubbish into the pond.
4.Which of the following is TRUE?
A.We can learn English well in a few days.
B.The saying only works for school study.
C.Wang Xizhi became famous after long-time practice.
D.We don’t need to practice if we are clever.
You may know how to make a paper airplane, but can you make a paper helicopter (直升机) ? Here is how! You’ll need one sheet of paper and one paper clip (回形针).
Steps

Handcraft DIY means making things with your own hands instead of buying finished products. It brings us joy and helps us learn traditional skills. Here are three kinds of popular handcraft DIYs.
Name
Things
Process
Paper-cutting
red paper, scissors
Draw patterns on paper first. Cut along the lines carefully. People usually stick the works on windows for the Spring Festival. It needs plenty of practice to get clean lines.
Origami
a square piece of paper
Fold the paper following certain steps. No scissors or glue is needed. You can make models of animals, flowers or small boxes.
Pottery-making
clay, water, oven
Mix clay with water and shape it with hands. Put the work into a hot oven to bake for hours. Every finished piece has its own special look.
When we do DIY handcrafts, we will meet small mistakes. But we can learn patience and pay more attention to details. These handcrafts are not just artworks. They carry our feelings and culture.

1.To build the Eco Cooler is not ________.
A.cheap B.easy C.expensive D.difficult
2.What does the underlined word “replace” mean in Chinese?

D.you should take notes of whatever you are hearing
5.The passage is mainly about how to________.
A.be better at English speaking and writing B.deal with new words in reading
