课时作业10
A
The teenage years are marked by intense
changes-physical,social,emotional,and
developmental-that can be difficult to deal
with at times.1 As you grow older,con-
flicts with family often increase, mainly due
to the desire for more independence.Peer(
龄人)pressure also plays a major role,as
teenagers are more likely to be influenced by
friends while testing boundaries and seeking
autonomy.
Conflicts during this time can also arise from
the intensity of your emotions and your evolving
ability to think abstractly. As you work on forming
your individual identity, you may become more fo
cused on the world around you, trying to make
sense of your own feelings and form opinions on
various issues.2 As your outlook changes,
these struggles may make it more difficult to navi-
gate relationships with family and cope with peer
pressure.
While conflicts are a natural part of this stage
of life, there are ways to manage and resolve them
productively.3 By expressing your thoughts
and feelings clearly, you can prevent misunder-
standings and build mutual respect.Equally impor-
tant is active listening-understanding others'out-
look can help you find common ground and reach a
resolution.
4 Staying calm allows you to think
more clearly and avoid worsening emotions.
Techniques such as deep breathing or tempo-
rarily stepping away from the situation can
help manage intense feelings.Additionally,
turning to trusted adults or peers who have
faced similar challenges can help you gain
practical strategies for managing emotions.

Adversity Quotient(AQ,逆境商数),
which is also known as the 'Adversity Intelli-
gence',measures a person's ability to handle
setbacks and struggles in difficult situations.
Unlike IQ or EQ,AQ focuses on resilience-
the power to recover from failures and adapt
to adversity.6 Psychologist Dr.Paul Sto-
Itz,who first proposed the concept in the
1990s,emphasized that AQ is crucial for per-
sonal and professional success,especially
when IQ and EQ levels are similar among in-
dividuals.
Why does AQ matter? In today's fast-
paced world,challenges are unavoidable.
High AQ individuals tend to view difficulties
as temporary and manageable.7 In con-
trast, those with low AQ often feel stuck,
blame others, and find it hard to keep going.
Studies suggest that 80%of long-term suc-
cess relies on EQ and AQ,while IQ contrib-
utes only 20%.
2
Dr.Stoltz identified four components to
evaluate AQ:
Control:8 High AQ individuals
actively seek ways to regain control, even in
terrible circumstances.
Ownership:The willingness to take re-
sponsibility for improving outcomes.9
Reach:Limiting the impact of adversi-
ty.Resilient people prevent setbacks from
spreading to unrelated areas of life.
※Endurancet(特久力):Perceiving challenges
as temporary.Optimism about the duration of dif-
ficulties helps maintain motivation.
10 Schools and workplaces now give
priority to "adversity training"to cultivate re-
silience.Strategies include changing negative
thoughts,setting small achievable goals,and
learning from past failures. As the saying
goes,"Smooth seas never make a skilled sail-
or"-accepting challenges shapes a stronger
character.
A.AQ alone can really determine success.
B.AQ can be developed through intentional
practice.
C.The influence one believes one can have
over a situation.
D.However,constantly analyzing failures
may lead to anxiety.
E.They stay positive and prevent them hur-
ting other parts of life.
F.A person with high AQ won't easily give
up in the face of hardship.
G.High AQ individuals are responsible for
their actions and focus on solutions.
C
With the start of the new year,it's easy to
feel stressed by unrealistic goals and fitness
trends.11.A research shows that even a short
amount of walking, one of the most accessible
forms of exercise, can help set you up for success
when working toward fitness achievements.Some
professionals say that 11 minutes of moderate-
to-vigorous exercise per day may lower your
risk of cancer,cardiovascular(心血管的)dis
ease or premature death.Does that sound like
too much to start? Here's some good news
from the research.12.
Aiming for 30 minutes of daily exercise,
ideally brisk walking paired with weightlifting to
create a high-intensity training program is often
recommended.13.
The key is to make movement a regular part
of your day, which is why the research suggests
people engage in any form of exercise, even if it's
including a five-minute walk into your routine.
14.Psychologically,smaller tasks are easier
to achieve. So pushing yourself to take a five-mi-
nute daily walk is easier than trying to complete a
35-minute walk once. And it is also easy for you to
keep on even with a five-minute walk.15
That is why it's important to start small and focus
on simplicity.
A.But you don't need to follow those crazes
B.Making bite-size goals is essential for lar-
ger goals
C.It can also be a good idea to take the stairs
to increase your heart rate
D.But a workout of that length isn't always
practicable for the beginners
E.Even as little as five minutes of walking per
day could provide some health benefits
F.Combining weight training and cardio(有氧
运动)is a beneficial way in your daily rou
tine
G.The most important part of any fitness
goal is finding time to weave it into your
daily routine
